Here's how you do Valentine's Day in Norwich: 1. Stop outside of Chapelfield mall for carnations, 75p each for 6 ("Cost more 'cause of the holiday, sorrey," the vendor said, as if 4.50 GBP was going to break my soul). 2. Go to Hotel Chocolat for AMAZING chocolate. 3. Head to your local wine vendor, for a bottle of cheap but pleasant shiraz to go with said chocolate. 4. Distribute the carnations and chocolate to your girls, watching their faces light up because they also do not have men. 5. Go back to your room and watch "Hitch," while eating the remaining chocolates and drinking that whole bottle of shiraz... alone. (Queue sad Charlie Brown music...) Point is, Hotel Chocolat has a fantastic array of chocolates, from my favourite espresso-flavored, to decadent truffles. The gift boxes are also amazing, and can be ordered for various occasions (though I must say that I ADORE that they made "self-indulgence" an occasion). The best bit about Hotel Chocolat is that it's not a cutesy candy store; it's a chic, sexy, modern chocolate shop. NBs, the sales people were not always so knowledgeable about chocolate itself (which I thought would have been an asset), and they insisted that they didn't take Scottish currency... in case I had any, I guess. This is the best chocolate I have found in England. Prices are high - if they were cheaper it would get 5 stars - even allowing for the superior quality! Situated in the Chapelfield centre, it is worth a visit - they often have free samples available. read more

A lovely shop, very well presented and the staff are nice, A great place to get pressies for chocolate lovers, you really are spoilt for choice! Alot of the chocs look far to good to eat, they also do special gifts sets for occassions so definatly pop in a check it out. Be aware that it is expensive in there also! read more

The sell all kinds of slabs of chocolate that look beautiful and taste amazing. They were giving out small bars in exchange for signing up to their email newsletter. Huge slabs of chocolates, plain and fancy adorn this spacious shop, along with smaller lollipops and twizzlers! They ARE expensive, but boy are they worth it! heaven for chocoholics! When Chapelfield first opened I was so excited when I was told there was a posh chocolate shop. Its cool and has a wonderful sense of peace inside! Its like stepping out of the hustle and bustle into your own private shop. Pricey, but a real treat - great if you don't know what to buy for someone. read more

This is one of the best chocolate shops in the city. It seems very posh compared to alot of other shops too. They sell an extensive range of chocolate slab bars which all diffent bits added for everyones taste. The only thing is the price of these chocolate bars but i have brought a couple for presents for birthdays and christmas. Everytime i've looked in here it's always been so quiet and peaceful compared to the husstle and bussle outside. read more

If I get the chance whilst out shopping I have to look in this shop to treat myself to some delicious chocolate they sell. I have also brought chocolate from here for gifts for my family. They are a bit more expensive then other chocolate shops in the City but you can't complain about the quality at all. It's the top chocolate shop there is and once I've brought a bar it never lasts that long as it's soo yummy. This shop is quite posh and it's pleasant to walk around as it's got a totally different atmosphere to all other shops I've been into. They offer a great selection of different types of chocolates all with various toppings and fillings. They sell massive slabs of chocolate too but these are really expensive but if you can afford it then you must treat yourself to this. Hotel Chocolat first entered my world when the Chapelfield Mall opened up. I hadn't even heard of the chain before, but the opportunity to taste samples drew me in. They offer a great range of 'slabs' of chocolate, with a variety of different toppings/flavours, as well as other unusual things like hot chocolate melting balls. yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yes, its expensive but you're hardly going to buy it everyday. makes a nice gift, for you or someone else! so much variety - dark, white, milk and there's fruit, nut, biscuit all different sizes. plus boxes etc. it's not a place you can go into and not buy something, even if its only small. knocks the socks off of thorntons, the quality is outstanding. read more

This store has the edge over thorntons I only wish there was more than 1 in norwich, not that Im greedy. The packaging, price, staff, carrier bags are all superb. I love it how they have name badges on and pinnys. Very good and good location in the chapelfield complex. read more
