If I could give the Ceilidh-Donia six stars, I certainly would. Charming does not begin to describe it. Most importantly, the location is great - there's a bus stop right around the corner and it's only a 10 or so minute trip to Princes St./Royal Mile. And it's extremely clean, well-kept, and comfortable. As a female solo traveler, I felt completely safe. So many thoughtful touches - tea and hot chocolate and a kettle in the room, lovely toiletries, travel guides & Scottish history books downstairs, letting me keep my bags there after checkout, free wifi (which may or may not work), computer & printer which is great for buying tickets in advance, etc. My room was beyond adorable and cozy - nice and quiet with a view of the back garden. Lots of hot water for the shower. I could really go on.
And the breakfast. Oh my. Everything you could want - pastries, toast, fruit, yogurt, juice, cereal - and hot dishes to order, including eggs, haggis (of course), the full breakfast range. The staff were so kind about my gluten-free request and brought me GF bread without my having to even ask!! Loved the charming breakfast room. Honestly, the hotel was so lovely and relaxing that sometimes I had to remind myself I was there to see Edinburgh, not the B&B. Super perfect place to stay on a trip to this wonderful city - can't wait to come back! read more
