My wife and I have been staying at the Bydgoszcz Holiday Inn for one full week now, and will still…read morebe here one additional week, but we now have sufficient experience to offer a fully-informed review. First, we love the location...short taxi ride from the airport took less than 10 minutes, and it sits in an area of Bydgoszcz that bustles with business activity. Easy 5-minute walk of at least 50 restaurants, cafes, and bars, and an easy 10-minute walk to a very large 3-level shopping mall. So, everything a traveler might need is within a very convenient walking distance. The hotel itself is a modern building, inside and outside. It stands in stark contrast to the older, more traditional architecture in the neighborhood. This is NOT a criticism...it actually makes the hotel easier to find after a night of local pub-crawling! :-) We are staying one floor above the street in a corner room with a wrap-around balcony and a nice view of the Brda River...Amercian standard queen bed, very large room with lots of space and furniture. Carpet is clean and in great condition. Bathroom is decent, not too small, not too big...perfect for two people. As for the service, we are incredibly impressed with every Holiday Inn employee we have met here. The Front Desk was immediately helpful our first day here...we asked for a few more closet hangers and an iron and ironing board, and less than 5 minutes later, they delivered 12 hangers and an iron and ironing board right to our room. When we asked for an IHG Club member room upgrade upon check-in, our Front Desk clerk very honestly told us that the room they had already reserved for us was actually much better than any upgrade they could offer us...and we are so happy he didn't upgrade us! We love our room. The lobby bar and downstairs breakfast staff are simply fantastic...always quick with a smile, excellent anticipation of guest needs and expectations. In particular, we would like to recognize the following specific employees: Alan, Food & Beverage Manager...friendly, happy to do anything to help, and very accommodating with a special request that we are taking home to Texas with us and will enjoy sharing with friends. Lucas, Bartender Extraordinaire...great sense of humor, good bartender curiosity, very candid and honest with advice about local restaurants and bars, and he never steered us wrong. Caroline, Assistant Bartender...efficient, eager to please, pours a perfect "American-style" beer (all the way to the top of the glass!!!). Monika and Agnes, Breakfast Room Experts...always moving, always working, always busy, always willing to slow down to answer questions (Zabka!!!), always nice girls with a strong work ethic. Camilla, Breakfast Chef (Choo-Choo!!!)...she has cooked custom-ordered omelettes for me 7 days in a row and every one of them was 100% delicious, and always made with a big beautiful smile on her face. Magdalena, Housekeeping...she did a wonderful job every time she serviced our room to make sure everything was perfect and clean, she missed nothing! We very much appreciate all of it. My only complaint about the hotel is the alcohol prices at the lobby bar...they charge way too much for it, especially the beer and vodka. I can walk 1 block away to a local bar and drink the exact same beer and vodka for less than 50% of what the Holiday Inn lobby bar charges for it. That is probably why the lobby bar is mostly empty most of the time. Otherwise, Holiday Inn Bydgoszcz is the very best Holiday Inn we have ever visited, and we are glad we are staying here and NOT at the Mercure.
