This is my 2nd stay at the Hotel Beacon and it is my favorite place to stay in the city. Inside is quiet and immaculate with staff members that are kind, friendly and welcoming, especially the doorman, Michael Valentín who made me laugh every day with his witty commentary. My wife and I stayed for 9 nights at the Hotel Beacon. Fantastic staff including bell men, desk staff, house keeping and maintenance. My request for a room facing Hudson street on a high floor (rm1810) was perfect. No problems with water pressure or enough outlets. Convenient access to gym and washer dryer. Lots of great local restaurants and shopping. An easy walk to 42nd st subway and Central Park. We will stay here again. read more

Absolute scam hotel, we entered our room and there was this absolutely foul stench and there were cockroaches on the ground. We asked for a refund and the staff was extremely rude. They advertised breakfast but when we asked about it they said to go around the corner to the diner. Terrible place do not go. read more

I'm shocked how this hotel got such good reviews. Pros: - Amazing location; conveniently located across the street from great grocery stores with grab-and-go items. Tons of eateries around. Short walk from the subway. Might be the only thing going for the restaurant. - Housekeeping staff was friendly Cons: - Extremely outdated hotel with musty smell throughout the hallways. Peeling paint, uncomfortably tiny sinks, cracks in floors and walls - Walls are THIN. During our stay we found the biggest cockroach we have ever seen. We let management know and they acted like it wasn't a big deal and they didn't even apologize. They sent someone up 10 minutes later with a broom (what was that going to do) after the roach crawled under the fridge. I live in the south and I understand that some roaches (palmetto bugs) are native and normal to see, but I know in NY there are only roaches where there is DIRT and FILFTH. The rooms were outdated, yes, but clearly they aren't being cleaned. I was very disappointed in the way management reacted and it was apparent that we were bothering them when we brought up this issue. we were no longer comfortable for the remainder of the stay Good location. Service was great, attentive, room was a good deal for the price. Didn't want to force my out of town friend to squeeze on my futon for the night so I decided to splurge on a room. It's located right next to the Beacon Hotel so if you're planning to see a show there it couldn't be any more convenient. Check in was quick and easy and they loaned me a charger when I realized i forgot one. Room was clean (for the most part) and spacious for my friend and me. The only thing I had a complaint about was that there was one random loose butterknife on the kitchenette counter - no other cutlery. I have no idea if this was used or not or fell or whatever so I just tossed it in the sink. And there was an unwrapped cracker on the floor by of the nightstand. read more

I recently stayed at the Beacon overnight. It is an excellent location, on the upper West side of Manhattan. It is a quiet area and ideal if you don't want the hustle-bustle of staying in Midtown or near Times Square. It is near the subway and the M104 busruns up and down Broadway. The subway is nearby on 72nd Street. It is walking distance to Lincoln Center and the Beacon theater is next door. It is an ideal hotel for an extended stay and/or travelling with a family. An ideal feature about the room is that it is large and it contains everything that you think you may need, especially for an extended stay visit. My room had two large double beds, a nice chair to sit in and although a desk would have been nice, there was a nice table which I was able to work on efficiently. The bathroom is comfortable with a bath mat and grab bar for safety. One very nice feature is that there is almost a full kitchen with the exception of an oven. My room had a Keurig, a toaster, a small two burner stove, a sink, pots and pans etc. I was told my the staff that if you cook in your room, you can leave the dirty dishes and the staff will take care of them in addition to tidying up your room. The Fairway market is directly across the street for shopping and not too far south, there is also a Trader Joes. If you opt not to cook, the Viand Cafe is next door and the hotel staff recommended the grilled cheese sandwich. My check in was uneventful and I told the staff that I would be leaving early the next morning and would I have difficulty getting a cab? I was reassured that since there is a 24 hour doorman, this would not be a problem. When I left the following morning, there was no doorman to be seen and not a cab in sight. There was someone who would take me to the airport but I was not going there. Other than this minor glitch, my stay at the Beacon was very pleasant and I would recommend and if the need should arise, I would stay here again. read more

My flight from SFO to NY was delayed by SIX hours, putting me in NY after 1am. I called the hotel around 4pm to tell them I could not make it, and they still refused any kind of refund. So, not only did I not get to go to NY, I spent $560 on a hotel room I never set foot in. They offered me a free upgrade on a subsequent visit. Do you really think I would give you any more of my money? Shame on you. read more

You get a huge space for a reasonable price at Hotel Beacon. Do the rooms need a refresh? Absolutely. And a deep cleaning as well. However, outside of the that, the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need for an extended stay, or if you just don't want to eat out every single meal. The staff are all kind and helpful, house keeping will replace any dirty dishes you leave in the sink (we just washed as we went), and the beds are super comfortable. Traveling with a 6-year-old presents it's challenges when staying in hotels, but our stay at Hotel Beacon felt like we had sublet an apartment for the week and it was a super easy and delightful stay. Great location to both the subway and buses, the Fairway across the street is open until midnight, and Cafe Viand next door has the best grilled cheese in the the city (according to our kiddo). read more

The Mr. and I stayed here in 2019, so when I started planning a girlfriend's trip, I knew the Hotel Beacon was the perfect choice. We booked the double queen room. Two beds + a pullout sofa, gave each of us our own bed. We loved having a living room area to sit and talk together. It was nice to have a refrigerator for drinks and goodies and having two closets was a plus. We had room for everything. Housekeeping kept our rooms spotless and the bathroom well stocked with towels. A note of welcome and a bottle of wine was such a nice touch. Thank you Hotel Beacon for making our stay in NYC such a pleasure! Additional Pros: Location, staff, great restaurants, and a subway just a few blocks away. HIGHLY recommended. read more

This was my second stay at the Beacon and it was excellent. Things I liked: -Front desk/lobby staff super-friendly, helpful, and always greeted us upon entry/exit. -Room was always immaculate. Got to know one of the housekeeping staff and she was delightful and friendly! -Although other reviews say rooms need an upgrade/updating, we found ours to be quite updated, nothing looked old/worn. Ours was a King Suite. -Large rooms compared to other NYC hotels. -Comfortable beds. -No bugs that we noticed. -Windows that actually open! -A/C and heating worked flawlessly. -Location is fantastic. Market across the street so helpful. -Mini kitchen saved us $$ as we were able to make our own breakfasts. In summary, a stay that exceeded our expectations. I stayed in The Hotel Beacon from July 15th-27th with four people because my father was receiving a kidney transplant from my friends (Donor and caretaker, also guests). I was not treated well despite a bedbug infestation and my room flooding with sewage. I was abandoned by the hotel and general manager Vincent Hardy. On July 19th, the toilet in my room (803) overflowed & flooded my room with sewage. When I called the front desk, they sent someone up who had me open the door (I had to step on said sewage to do so). They removed the water but did not sanitize, and I was told to "ask the housekeeping to sanitize the room for me."  I was also not offered a new room at this point, so I had to go ask the front desk myself. When I asked, the front desk moved me to room 812. At first, this was convenient because it was next to the donor's room (810). That night, I slept in Room 812. In the morning of July 20th I found bedbugs in my room, confirmed by my donor's caretaker, but upon taking the pictures down to the front desk I was told it was "probably dust-mites." But they would check and e-mail me the results.  That same day, my father's donor had complications and had to return to the hospital.The next morning, I noted I had unusual, extremely itchy bumps all over my torso, forehead, neck, and back. Desk manager Robert verbally confirmed bedbug infestation (I received no confirmation e-mail). At this point, I was needed at the hospital to relieve the donor's caretaker. Instead, Robert had me come to the room to help him deal with the situation, admitting he did not know what to do. He did volunteer to wash my laundry, though. I packed up mine and my friends' items so that they could be moved to another room while I rushed to the hospital. I was told the manager would call me and that I may have to sign a 'release form'.  I was again told that room 810 would be tested and confirmation sent to my e-mail. None of this happened. The manager did not call me, I was sent no confirmation for bedbugs in 812 or whether 810 was infested or not. Throughout the week in between caretaking, walking through the lobby and speaking to staff with bright red marks visible all over my body, no one felt any sense of urgency to help me. On July 26th WITH my donor friend and I were able to secure a meeting with Vincent Hardy to inform him of my plight. He assured us that I would be compensated for my entire stay, the bedbug test proof would be sent to my inbox, and my expenses related to my bedbug injuries would be compensated. I was compensated for my expenses, but then was told it would be my responsibility to secure the refund as he was at a standstill with the booking company. This was in direct conflict with the verbal and written promises I was given. However, Booking.com and the external booking company say that the hotel takes care of refunds. After August 6th, Vincent completely stopped responding. When I emailed back a couple weeks later asking for an update of when I would get the refund, I got an auto-response that he was on vacation for 2 weeks. It is now August 28th and I have received nothing else. I want it known that if my father or the donor were to have gotten bedbugs, a LIFESAVING kidney surgery would have been cancelled. If I had brought bed bugs unknowingly anywhere else during my stay I would have put many others in danger. This was irresponsible, unfair, and unprofessional of the hotel and I HIGHLY suggest avoiding them. They made me feel so small and unimportant as a guest. read more

I live in the Upper West Side and I needed a place to stay for a few days and I walked a block to the Hotel Beacon. I have to say this was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. The kindness of the staff, they go out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect. I can't thank Luke enough for all he did to make sure I was happy and taken care of. He exceeded all my expectations. I hope they know what a gem he is, I'm guessing they do. :) and the manager (didn't get his name) was wonderful and cared that my stay was everything and more. The suite I had was beautiful, with an incredible view and I didn't want to leave the room. When I did go out it had started to rain and one of the staff kindly suggested I use an umbrella that they have on hand for the guests. I seriously can't say enough about this stay. What a beautiful treat this was. Stay here. Don't think twice. It's amazing and close to everything. Be in a beautiful NYC neighborhood instead of the congestion and grime of high tourist areas. You can't beat this location. Close to Central Park, good restaurants and the 72nd St Station. The rooms are ok. We had a one bedroom suite, with a living room and kitchen. All good sized. 3 of us shared the room. The bathroom is tiny but that's typical of New York. Unfortunately they were painting the room next to ours and the painter arrived pretty early and proceeded to get into a VERY loud phone argument with someone. In Russian. It was intense and woke us up. Eventually I had to go next door and ask him to lower his voice. Awkward. The rest of the staff is STELLAR. So kind and helpful. Always smiling. Checked in to the least expensive 4 star on Priceline hotel in Manhattan tonight and Bob Dylan was playing a gig at the hotel bar. Had I known, I would have arrived at a reasonable time and checked it out. This hotel has three big positives 1) legitimate music venue on property, 2) Starbucks next door & 3) grocery store across street and in room kitchenette (good for families on vacation or extended business traveler - not me). In my opinion, this hotel is three stars. Should get another half star for rock legends playing at the hotel bar. Some very unique things about this hotel. Some would see as positive and some will see as negative. If the price is right or you need to be in this neighborhood (I didn't) this is an option. read more

Checked in on Thursday, room was ready and waiting for us. At checkin, they mentioned they upgraded us to another room with better views. Well they certainly did! This hotel was clean! The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. The beds were so comfortable. I was also very surprised that it wasn't noisy at all. I kind of expected to hear sounds from the street (even on the 11th floor there is usually street noise), but it was quiet. It's a very nice location on Broadway, lots to do in the area. Saw a show on Friday at the theater and strolled next door afterwards. So convenient (which is why we selected this hotel in the first place). Now it's just my favorite hotel in Manhattan. We will see you again in September because we booked another show before we left. Can't wait! read more

We had roaches in our beds. The keys randomly stopped working and when my daughter's key didn't work when she got back late at night, they would not let her in the room even though her name was on the contract. She had to stay somewhere else. Also, the pullout bed is very uncomfortable. The hotel was under construction and half the facilities are closed for renovation. 1st time in New York and the accommodations were perfect. HB rooms are very nice, amazing view nestled in between 74th & 75th on Broadway smack dang next to the Beacon Theatre. Staff went above and beyond, checked us in early, washed the dishes in our room, and Robert at the front desk "thank you" for the book when checking out and having the taxi ready for us when we left at the crack of dawn. Location is minutes from Central Park, The Met, steps from a Starbucks...lol. Not to mention, residents and their beautiful dogs are quite friendly! Love the service and friendliness of the staff. That was definitely the highlight of our stay. The location is decent around a few shops and stores, and within walking distance of Central Park and the subway (although only the red line so you may need to transfer frequently). Seemed pretty clean, so no issues there. One thing we noticed that there was no towel hook or ring to hang a hand towel (and a few cracks that would need new caulking), which become more annoying as our progressed, but other than a couple of small details, the amenities were really good (with a refrigerator, microwave and even with burners and dishware and utensils). read more

Pros: The location is great (short walk to the subway.) The kitchenette is very helpful. We were on the 21st floor, so we had fantastic views and very little street noise. The staff is friendly and helpful. The beds are comfy and come with 3 pillows each, including a longer body pillow. Cons: The bathroom did not have a fan or vent; instead it only had a small window that opened a couple inches, which is exactly 0% helpful when it's 90° outside. The sink literally overlapped the toilet (see photo) so doing your business required a little contortionism. There was a motion-sensor light on the floor near the bathroom, which seems like a good idea in theory but it's blinding when it clicks on because you rolled over in your sleep. Also, our showerhead made a godawful squealing noise while in use - we called it our screeching pterodactyl. But overall, it's a great hotel and a great choice to stay at! The inconveniences were pretty minor, but still something to be aware of. read more

We've been wanting to stay at Hotel Beacon for awhile as it is right next to the theatre. We finally found a great deal on booking.com when we went for Trey Anastasio. We were able to upgrade for a minimal increase and wow! So glad we did! The view from the 24th floor is outstanding. Bed is super comfy, I always appreciate when hotel pillows are not thin and they actually are supportive. Kitchenette was very handy and I was so impressed with the shower pressure. Hope to back again. Having a parking garage two blocks away was also very convenient. Love it! read more

I needed somewhere to escape to - not just because we are in covid times but because I just started graduate school. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was large and had a great view, not to mention a full kitchenette which meant I could cook for myself and save $. It was a reasonable walk to Central Park, which I made daily. I'm guessing it had its heyday when the Beacon Theatre was open and I hope they are able to weather the storm until it is again. But for a solidly comfortable, nice, clean, well-located hotel in NYC, this is great. read more

This was our 4th or 5th stay at the Beacon and we consistently have a great experience. Our rates are always great and to have the kitchenette is a huge plus. The rooms are always clean and housekeeping is friendly and accommodating. I left a jacket in the closet and called 2 days after check out and it was returned to me. The only thing to be aware of is if you are on lower floors you can hear music/noise from the venue. We don't mind as it always wraps up before we go to sleep but if you are noise sensitive go for an upper floor. Feels like a home away from home. Thanks for another great visit! read more

Stayed in a basic room. The room, and hotel in general, is very dated. Needs a major overhaul. The room had a lot of wear and tear. A musty odor and some really dated features which no guest will use, such as an old electric coil stove. Not sure how the more expensive rooms are, but the standard room, I'm sorry to say, is pretty bad. read more

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Beacon. Room and (small) bathroom were extremely clean, beds were comfy. The double pane windows are very effective at drowning out sounds. Lovely western view from 14th floor. Loved the kitchenette. My only negative comment were the rooms were a little tattered around the edges. But this is minor. Wow - what a great hotel! First of all, the location can't be beat. It is a block and a half from the 72nd stop on the 1,2,3 line; directly across the street from Fairway grocery store; two blocks from Riverside Park; and a few blocks from Central Park. There is also a playground a block and a half away. The area is incredibly safe -- I never felt uneasy walking to and from the hotel at any time. My husband, 5 yo, and I stayed in a king bed suite, which came with a kitchenette stocked with dinnerware and a separate living area with a pullout couch. The room was super quiet -- we couldn't hear a peep of outside noise. Housekeeping was superb! We will 100% stay here again the next time we come to NYC. read more
