I'm not into rating much but I was completely turned off today going into the restaurant. As I walked in, a guy with no mask was walking around and when I looked into the kitchen, their were about 4 to 5 people extremely close to each other also with no masks or gloves (keep in mind this is not a huge place). And then when I had tried to order the same thing ive always gotten from there, the guy behind the register claimed that we do not offer it and when I had told him, I've always ordered this way, he didn't seem to care and gladly let me leave. Came here in May 2019 for the first time and have to say the is the best new restaurant we have tried in years. All of the different types of bread (roti, aloo pie, doubles) are insanely good, and the food is beyond impressive. Two of us had shrimp doubles, goat roti, boneless chicken roti, and aloo pie, which should be enough for 4 people, but it was so absurdly good that we finished it all. Not bad! I'm originally from NY and I would purchase rotis a lot in Brooklyn. In other words, I know a good roti when I taste one lol I came here as a recommendation by a colleague. I am somewhat still a vegetarian so I ordered the chickpea and potato roti (I guess that's their veggie one). It was pretty good. I asked for it to be extra spicy... it was mildly spicy but that's okay. I started to get tired of it as I got half-way through. Maybe it became boring or I was getting full... Nonetheless, I wished I had some shrimp in there at that point. I look forward to trying some of the others, esp the shrimp. The customer service wasn't top notch or anything but at least the gentleman serving us wasn't rude or anything. He was serving someone else so there was about a 10-15 min wait to order and then another 5-10 to get our order. Guess that's typical of most restaurants. Ok so it looks good and roti was nice and soft and moist.. I selected the boneless chicken seasoning was ok a bit salty thou. But I don't cook with salt so I maybe a bit sensitive to salt. There was a good amount of chicken potato curry balance. Cost was about right for the size $8.49 you could split one and not feel bad about it. Over all I would give it a three out of five stars. If you want a taste of Trinidad come here- the food is delicious and authentic! The menu is reliable, no matter what day or time you arrive they have everything as listed. You can see the chefs hard at work in the kitchen, so if you order a roti be prepared to wait about 10-15 minutes because it is handmade to order. And worth the wait! It's a small place and sometimes there's a bit of a wait, but the food is always fresh, delicious, and perfectly spicy, which it makes it well worth it. They also have a nice selection of Trinidadian soft drinks if you're looking for a nice complement to your food, and you should always, always get a side of tamarind sauce with anything you're having. The Bake & Saltfish is another one of my favorites here. The Bake is always fluffy & crispy, as it should be. I have tasted almost everything they serve and so far everything has been amazing!!! The owner and staff are also super friendly. This place is by far the best West Indian food I've found and that includes Brooklyn, Queens and Miami. Before I talk about the food, I have to say that every time I've been here, the owner has been terrifically nice to me. Warm and friendly, excited that I know about Trini culture (my girlfriend is Trini). I love the food here. Chicken roti is my go-to, but I've had all of them, and they're all great. The oxtail is really good, the stew chicken is very nice, and I love seeing the Trini stuff in the cooler. The Solo sodas, Peardrax, and the homemade peanut punch and mauby punch. Even stuff like the poster of the Trini fruits and vegetables hanging near the cash register makes me smile because I remember looking at the same one standing in line at Richard's Bake & Shark in Maracas. A great, authentic Trini experience in the middle of New Jersey. I recommend it completely. Wonderful. read more
