Julie is great at listening to what you have in mind, taking pictures of styles you bring in, and then improving on that so that you look your best. What might be a good cut otherwise, becomes a great cut with the right color treatment. I am really excited to travel back and sit in her chair in her new salon. AND - she is also a great make-up artist. I have been in two weddings for which she did the make-up. All of the girls looked fresh and gorgeous, but also like themselves. Julie has a great creative eye and is fantastic at executing not only her own vision, but translating what you, the client, might otherwise have a hard time articulating. As a Dramatic Diva, this caused me to take drastic measures and cut out my 21" SisterLocks™ myself. HUGE MISTAKE! Enter Ryan, my Super Hero Barber. I called Kampus Kuts after finding them on Yelp. Once he heard of my need, Ryan was willing to take me on short notice for an early morning appointment the next day. Y'all, let me tell you that this young man is more than a barber! He is exceptionally good at his job as a barber, as you will see from the pictures, but his personality and spirit is also exceptional. It was awesome learning about his family and education (he's working on his PhD), and how he is an integral part of his community. I enjoy finding businesses who are really integrated into their communities. Actually, as I sat in his chair, a young woman stopped by the barbershop to thank him for his support through a conversation they had the day before. In his capacity as a psychologist, Ryan often is in a position to help others right from the barbershop. Inside Kampus Kuts itself, you will find a unique and eclectic collection of vintage barber furniture, a pool table, and various seating arrangements. There are hand painted windows and murals inside and outside of the building. It is clean, accessible, and open to all. This small, minority-owned business is definitely a staple in the community, and I am so glad to have stumbled across it.
