Southern Coffee House had an extensive coffee menu, a drive through, and enchanting inside and outside seating. It is hard to believe that this itty-bitty place is in the middle of a small town and not one of the bigger Texas cities. I ordered one of their deliciously flavored coffees from the drive-through, but I had to stop and check out the place. I was completely won over. I have to say that in addition to the excellent coffee and amazing décor, it had the most charming and likeable employees. These two young ladies went out of their way to give us more information about Southern Coffee and a tour of place. They were so sweet, friendly, and helpful, I would go again based on service alone. I really think that this is an ideal stop and will make it a point to visit again whenever I'm in the area.

But after a short investigation, I did indeed find good coffee. I spent about an hour hanging out with the owner and his mother. We were the only ones in the place. They were both incredibly friendly. The Hazelnut latte I ordered was just hot enough, had four shots in it, and was very good. Plus - they had wifi :) I even bought a bag of coffee the owner recommended. I was sorry to hear the story about their current location, though. Seems they used to be "downtown Castroville", but the landlord kept raising their rent, and he could only roast his coffee beans during certain times, etc. Sad when local business are pushed out for almighty dollar.... She has now opened up her "Cake Poppery" and ice cream shop. She has a wonderful treat for just a small bite or she can do your events, etc. Cake balls are also great gifts for clients. She's a wonderful baker and just a delight to work with. She also offers kids decorating classes!
