Have participated in about 10 auctions over 10 years, many other auctions are too far away to make it practical for pickup or inspection. Purchases have ranged from $1 items to a 3 bedroom home with huge garage. They recognized me from prior events and provide well documented items. Do not purchase any thing from them that requires a title for transfer. I purchased an item with two titles included. I was not informed till after I signed their release paperwork that they didn't have titles on site to what I purchased. Their rep then proceeded to provide me with the previous owners contact info ( not ok to give personal contact info out) to make my own arrangements. When a stranger didn't answer I was provided the original auctioneers number who also didn't answer. All of these interactions don't make sense. I should have been provided a valid titles on the spot. I called the auctioneer again and got excuses about miss communications after I got in contact with the title holder. I hope to get titles tomorrow from the title holder of my purchase, but I am not holding my breath. Do not sign anything without a title present from this company! I have had smooth translations in the past with them, but none included state documents. I no longer have any faith in their transactions! read more

They were honest and straightforward in evaluating whether an auction would be worthwhile. They handled all of the logistics. They respected the family members involved and the property. They kept us informed of the steps/process. Ultimately they helped us raise more funds than we could have done so doing this ourselves, which will help care for our family member. read more

Hostetter helped clean out an estate of my late husband. They were recommended by my real estate agent. The contract process was misleading. Please be mindful of this. In the end it was a very disappointing experience. I would have been better to advertise items on Marketplace. They are unable to tell you up front what the advertisement costs and/or labor costs will be. The hidden fees in the end are a shock. You walk away with far less than their profit. read more

Just to get started, I have dealt with Hostetters Auctioneers for a good amount of time. I have never had a problem with their anything they ever sold (in reality its up to us to check the merchandise out before we bid on it) and up until now, I absolutely loved the people that worked there. But one bad apple ruined all that and the way, or that it they way it wasn't, handled just made me look at how management handles their employees. Whether they are family, or long time friends or just paid waged employees no one should get treated by an employee in a the manner that I (and a few other people, the first time) were treated. This woman who does the registering of the winning bids as soon as the auction winners walk in, decided to not only chastise and reprimand me but have a real bad attitude. Seemed like she was under pressure and took it out on those around her. I guess the first time she locked herself out from some part of the house and was upset that, while we were waiting for her to sign us out, we were talking amongst ourselves, we did not hear her knocking or whatever she yelled at us that she did and told us that if we wanted to talk we had to go outside because no one heard her. I didn't know we were responsible for her?! And she said this to everyone who was waiting for her including myself. I just said my bidder number and took my paper from her and left before I said anything else. It doesnt stop there, less than a week, I won another item and I went to go pick it up, something screwed up on my part and I wound up having to pay cash for it. I guess some other winners where having problem with removing a couch from the part of the house she was in and she stated that she wasnt going to register anyone else until they deal with the couch and i told her i cant wait I have to go to work. So when I returned with the cash, I waited til she finished with the person she was dealing with and she looked at me and in front of everyone, with an attitude, stated not to rush her. I specifically told her I didn't say anything, and I am not rushing her. I just snatched my paper and got my item. Well a couple of days later I sent an email to Hostetters, told them everything and asked to be taken off any bids. I have not heard anything from them, much less an apology for the unprofessional behavior by their employee (who knows if its a family member or even one of the owners, one can only guess), nothing. So, expect to be chastised and treated poorly by select employees, especially if they dont rectify the problem. If its worth dealing with people like that for items, more power to you. I, fortunately, like myself way to much to be subjected to such behavior by anyone. Especially people who cant work well under pressure. read more

I have been dealing with Sherman Hostetter auctioneers since my days of buying cars at Goodwill car auctions and then I started attending their merchandise auctions (not Lee Hostetter mind you, but Sherman Hostetter) for over 15 years and when the father was in charge, it was one of the best auctions in the area. But now the kids have taken over, all auctions are now online (lazy), questions are answered with glossed-over responses because they dont want to properly describe the items and the photos are incorrect, the descriptions are VERY vague and inaccurate, and they sell items that are marked as broken when you see them in person but their online description does not state that so you don't know you are buying a broken item until you get there the next day and you are required to pay for them with your registered credit card when the auction ends so you cannot withhold payment (deceptive practices). When I approached them because everything I had bid on online was clearly marked as being defective but that wasn't listed on the description, they stated that I should have come there for the inspection day which was one day for 3 hours and had already passed (hence my questions sent by email that were glossed over) (not very encouraging). Beware Hostetter auctioneers - I wonder if they sell anything that actually works or if they just make a living on deception and dodges. read more
