This place is totally doable and even worth recommending if you're only in town for one or two…read morenights, on a budget, and able to sleep through anything...I'm not just talking about creaking bunk beds and people coming and going at all hours. That is typical hostel noise and nothing to worry about! The problem here is the music that the door clerk blasts all night long at night club volume, while singing along nearly as loud...The rooms are clean, lockers are pretty secure, and the roof terrace is a nice perk as is the free breakfast. One thing to note- to take a shower everyone in your room will see you naked. Might be a big deal to some. A little pricey for a hostel at $25 usd a night, but the area is very nice and super convenient and there is nary a sign of the dreaded bed bug.

We had just arrived in Mexico City and were a little culture shocked by the immensity of the city, and as ignorant Americans who speak little to no Spanish, it was nice to check in to a friendly, clean hostel with English speakers to get grounded before exploring the city. If staying in the D.F. this hostel is very centrally located. We did take the metro throughout the day and this place is located close to two metro stops. There is always a bilingual (English and Spanish speaking, I think) staff member at the front desk at all hours to answer any questions. Several times we asked for directions or about taking a bus or metro and were given great advice. The hostel is super clean and friendly. Our shared room was small, but brightly painted and clean. We did have a locker in the room and we travel with our own lock, so we felt safe locking our valuables up when out of the room. If you don't travel with your own lock, locks can be purchased at the front desk. At 2:00 PM, which is check in time, there was a long line of backpackers and travelers trying to get a room and a lot of them were turned down due to no vacancy, so definitely make your reservations online before coming, especially if you're planning to stay on a weekend. We made ours on Hostel World and had no issues with the reservations. There is a bar upstairs and free WiFi throughout the entire hostel, as well as a restaurant downstairs. The restaurant downstairs does serve really good food, and while it is more pricey than other places, it's convenient to grab a snack or drink. The free breakfast provided upstairs was fresh and hearty with lots of fruit. There is free coffee provided, but it's the instant kind. Another huge plus to this hostel was the free filtered water which is available on every floor in a drinking fountain. We refilled all of our water bottles and didn't have to buy any water while in Mexico City. The water fountains on the bottommost floors have the coldest water. There were some loud, obnoxious juveniles in the hostel, so if you want to get a good night's sleep definitely bring ear plugs, as a lot of the rooms open up to the restaurant and lobby downstairs and voices travel far in this hostel. The showers and bathrooms were clean and we were even provided with towels and soap, which is a plus for hostels. The same people who run this hostel also have others throughout Mexico, so it looks like a nice, trusty chain of hostels to me.

It is a refuge away from the busyness of the city. The breakfasts are to die for and the happy hour was an opportunity to socialise and network which is helpful when the city is new to you. For me the two friendly resident pet dogs were a bonus as I was missing my own. I can't recommend the Red Tree House enough.

But after my stay here, I can say they were absolutely right!!! This is the most perfect hotel/B&B EVER. I'm so glad I stayed here over other soulless hotels that were cheaper. From the first welcome to the last goodbye, every staff member here has made us feel so warm and cared for. Breakfast: This was my absolute favorite part -- I usually don't care for hotel breakfasts because I'm always on the go, but once I had the first bite, I moved our itinerary around so that we could get their breakfast every morning! They start around 7am with the bread and coffee, but the hot breakfasts start at 8am and end at 10am. I got to try chilaquiles, enchiladas, and enmoladas while I was here, and they really make them with heart and soul! These were the best things I ate during my trip to Mexico City! Also really loved the outside garden in the mornings with all the greenery and birds chirping. Location: in the heart of La Condesa, walking distance to Roma Norte, both neighborhoods were great for strolling through parks and art galleries. We ubered to other places further away and it was so cheap and convenient. Rooms: We stayed here for 4 nights and went to Oaxaca for 3, then back to the Red Tree House for the last night, and both rooms we had were cozy and comfy, with AC. They have great shampoo/conditioner and shower gel, amazing water pressure and temperature, everything was so clean, and I got to sit outside in the balcony and took it slow for the last morning we were there. Housekeeping was amazing, everything was perfect when we came back every night. Safety: They lock their front doors and the front gate so you need your key to get in, and there's a safe in every room. Happy Hour every night 6-8PM: This was such an unexpected bonus! I didn't even plan for us to be at the hotel during those hours because I wanted to see everything in CDMX, but it ended up raining during those hours and we went to one, and it was so much fun chitchatting with other like-minded travelers who shared what they loved about their trip -- We ended up going to a few more & got so many tips from other guests! The hotel dogs Romeo & Booz - I love them and miss them so much! Side note: I LOOOOVED all the art work and interior design and colors. Felt like I was in an art gallery but at the same time so comfortable at a friend's home. HIGHLY recommend!!! If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!!

The bedrooms and bathrooms are clean and functional, and the murals are impressive. My three girlfriends and I shared the large, "yellow" room with private bath for 2 nights. It overlooked the courtyard out back and the beds were fairly comfortable. The bathroom was surprisingly elegant with large mirrors and a deep bathtub. We stayed our last night in the "pink" room with a shared bath, which had two queen-size beds and a bunk bed. While it wasn't as nice as the yellow room (obnoxious lighting), it was a bit quieter at night... A group of rowdy boys partied into the early morning in the courtyard for two of our 3 nights, which could be heard clearly through the thin windows in the yellow room. The noise was nothing a white noise phone app couldn't fix. Breakfast was fabulous each morning, with fresh coffee and full meals, fruit and all. It's served every morning from 9-10, and fills you up. They happily cater to vegetarians. The family who runs the place is really great, and there was usually someone who spoke English in the office/front room at all times, 24/7. They are family friendly (offering PacNPlays), and have a dog named Soy who hangs out. They offer travel advice, will reserve taxis, loan out travel books, hand out maps, etc. I can't wait to return and bring my family next time.
