I hate to say bad stuff about a thrift store that supports hospice care but this place is pretty ratty. The merchandise is mostly worn out, broken down stuff that should have gone to the landfill. The store layout is a jumbled mess. The prices are way too high. I shop thrift stores for golf equipment of which I am an expert. The 25+ year old golf clubs and bags I inspected here were priced 4X - 5X higher than a starting bid on eBay for the same item. Go to the Thrifty Tails Boutique instead. Very picky on what they accept as far as donations go. Be prepared to take your donations home. Prices are higher for a thrift store. They do have a great selection of winter skis, poles, boots and gear. Otherwise, the store is small. I did find quite a bit of higher end brands but don't expect them for cheap. read more

This is such a great little thrift store! It's definitely harder to navigate than other thrift stores like Plato's Closet because the clothes aren't organized by size -- you have to really sort through EVERYTHING which is kind of annoying, but it's a small enough store that it also doesn't take very long to do. I have also gotten so many random things like books, kitchen wares, decorations, etc., so there are lots of hidden gems. Generally speaking, it's a solid value for the items, but there is some variability and sometimes you'll get a screaming deal but other times it's more aligned with what you'd hope to be paid for an item you're selling. However, I have found lots of awesome pieces I wouldn't have otherwise been able to afford, so it's definitely worth looking around! It's also nice to know you're supporting a great cause. I see that some reviewers had negative experiences with employees, but I am a local and have frequented this store, and have never had a bad experience with an employee. Some people are just always going to find a reason to complain -- it's a thrift store, the prices are fair, and while it may not have what you wanted or things that catch your eye, the inventory is always changing! read more

The prices here are about a lot higher than the amount of your average thrift store. The Managment is not the best. You would think they would be able to work with the community, but they are not willing to... I often find they have prices more expensive than you would find them selling by the brand themselves. I've seen Arcteryx bibs selling for $400+ where as I've purchased the same pair new on eBay for $200. I go to thrift stores to support communities and get cool items at a very fair price. Woah....Your prices are totally outrageous. Please consider lowering them for your used items. i.e.: $70 for a used end table? $60 for a used, pilled sweater? I have been donating to this thrift shop since it opened. It is a great cause. However, the last few times I brought in my donation the staff was rude and dismissive. I will be taking my donations to the new Humane Society thrift store now. read more

I'd love to say this is a nice place but I just had the worst experience today thanks to the dirty blonde lady with bangs. Another employee gave me a basket to shop around with because my arms are full and I'm buying tons of stuff from their store (shouldn't that be great??) and this awful woman stares at me and says I can't have it, and how I'm ruining the experience for other customers, and I start apologizing profusely, saying I had no idea because another woman gave it to me to help! She gave me the dirtiest look ever and rolled her eyes at me. Oh my god - what did I do to deserve that? You have to spend 10. 00 To use your debit card. They do not like dirty money or one hundred dollar bills. Some days there are nice ladies working. Other days the got snob ladies. This is a great Thrift Store that provides a place for locals to drop off donations, find good deals and they support a really worthy cause. For all those people who complain about the prices, what do you expect? They have employees to pay (everyone who works there is NOT a volunteer), a service to help support and there's no reason for them to charge any less than they do. This season I've found some practically new Patagonia jackets/pants for $40 to $60. Brand new these would have been $200+ each. It's also a great place to find kids snow gear and used skis/skates in addition to housewares, books and games. For a thrift store, it is pricey, it's the only game in town, so they have take advantage of the opportunity. They just need to remember the items they are selling are not new, and the price should reflect that. Now I get it if the the item is an antique, but this is a thrift store not a antique store! I absolutely love this thrift store. They pretty much have new things every day at really good prices. You can find namebrand stuff such as Marmet, The North Face, Spider, Columbia, and many other reputable brands for very affordable prices. they do a pretty good job of not putting out things that have extreme wear on them which I think is very helpful. All the other reviews saying this store is too expensive are full of crap. They have a very small section of more expensive designer brands that have been donated but it's a very small section the rest of the store has great stuff at amazing prices. read more

They just don't learn. Prices continue to be sky high. Now they've decided to try to 'justify' their ridiculous pricing by writing what full retail would be on the price tag. For example, some sort of West Elm lighting fixture was $225 but because the front packaging was missing you couldn't even see what the fixture looked like. Or a broken plastic basket for $8, more than it would be at retail. Their inventory isn't turning over, it just sits there collecting dust. read more

This is a pretty decent thrift store I have always enjoyed coming here. They have a new location off of West River St. If you are donating items here make sure you check with them that they will accept your items before bringing them in. They can sometimes be selective on what they accept as far as furniture, clothing etc and sometimes they get full and cut off donations- so you may want to call in advance. As for the quality of items it can be pretty hit or miss, but sometimes there are some great finds and vintage items. Pricing can sometimes be a bit higher, but usually the pricing is fair and I think it is really positive that it all goes for a good cause to support Hospice care. read more

I do enjoy coming here but most of the volunteers are rude (why be there if you don't won't to be!) the pricing is a bit all over the place, obviously different people are pricing and tagging the items and don't really know the value. Depending on who is there they don't really take items you would think they would. Overall it's fun to go and see what's there. read more

The new location for Truckee's Hospice Thrift is bigger, all the better to carry even more goodies. I made a donation and got a receipt for it. Folks seemed pleasant, and lots of good-natured conversations all about the store. This time I was interested in children's books. Love, love, love this place. It was HOPPING on a Tuesday at noon. So many treasures and so inexpensive. Who cares if you take something home and don't love it? This great community support has a wide variety of items that change daily. Its definitely worth the stop for a visitor but locals sometimes stop several times a week. Its saddens me to read the harsh reviews about the staff. They are a group of dedicated hard working people who try to do the best to benefit what the thrift store actually benefits- the Tahoe Forest Hospice program! The complainers dont see them daily deal with mountains of "hidden " dirty, stained, broken items that are donated. They truly appreciate donators that understand that what can be taken in is not someones whim but details not in anyone's control like amount of retail area legally allowed to sell in or CA laws prohibiting the sale of some items. Please keep on mind employee or volunteer- makes no difference. They all pour their heart into a often thankless job. Please continue to support this fantastic organization with your donations and purchases! read more

Gosh, this is my favorite place to donate items as well as buy items in Truckee. Usually, when I go to donate items, I'm in there for hours looking but also buying great items. I've found some great buys on lamps and other household items. My favorite purchase has been several fur coats!!! One of which is a silver tipped fox fur for $50. I don't know why people complain about the poorly run business aspect because it's not a business, it's a CHARITY. I believe that everyone in there are volunteers because I am considering volunteering there. The sale of donated items go to hospital based programs for HOSPICE (people dying) or cancer victims. I'd give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the bitchy manager, Sherri. This place has friendly staff (except Sherri), great stuff, great prices (most of the time....except when they think they've found gold and over price). In regards to the manager, every time I go in that place to buy or donate Sherri always has some rude, snarky comment. If I'm buying furniture and need assistance loading she's yapping at the employees to hurry up (like hello we are going as fast as we can...does it looks like we are taking a coffee break?!). If I'm donating stuff, she always rudely manages to tell me they don't take it and hands it back (I'm completely unaware of what you take and don't take and now I have to reload it cause you have this posted no where and you won't throw it away?!). This chick is bananas and all the poor reviews are based on this lady and her rude remarks. Come on hospice salvage your integrity while you can!!!! read more
