I hate to say bad stuff about a thrift store that supports hospice care but this place is pretty ratty. The merchandise is mostly worn out, broken down stuff that should have gone to the landfill. The store layout is a jumbled mess. The prices are way too high. I shop thrift stores for golf equipment of which I am an expert. The 25+ year old golf clubs and bags I inspected here were priced 4X - 5X higher than a starting bid on eBay for the same item. Go to the Thrifty Tails Boutique instead. It supports the SPCA. read more

Very picky on what they accept as far as donations go. Be prepared to take your donations home. Prices are higher for a thrift store. They do have a great selection of winter skis, poles, boots and gear. Otherwise, the store is small. I did find quite a bit of higher end brands but don't expect them for cheap. read more

Hospice Thrift Store - All the ski gear for sale - Thrift Stores Near Me - Truckee, California

This is such a great little thrift store! It's definitely harder to navigate than other thrift stores like Plato's Closet because the clothes aren't organized by size -- you have to really sort through EVERYTHING which is kind of annoying, but it's a small enough store that it also doesn't take very long to do. I have also gotten so many random things like books, kitchen wares, decorations, etc., so there are lots of hidden gems. Generally speaking, it's a solid value for the items, but there is some variability and sometimes you'll get a screaming deal but other times it's more aligned with what you'd hope to be paid for an item you're selling. However, I have found lots of awesome pieces I wouldn't have otherwise been able to afford, so it's definitely worth looking around! It's also nice to know you're supporting a great cause. I see that some reviewers had negative experiences with employees, but I am a local and have frequented this store, and have never had a bad experience with an employee. Some people are just always going to find a reason to complain -- it's a thrift store, the prices are fair, and while it may not have what you wanted or things that catch your eye, the inventory is always changing! read more

Good variety and clean store. Most items are overpriced though. Except the puzzles and games.

People who work here are always rude. And the prices are terrible considering the wear on items. They used to have a decent selection, but now we have more options a waste of time in my opinion. read more

The prices here are about a lot higher than the amount of your average thrift store. The Managment is not the best. You would think they would be able to work with the community, but they are not willing to... I often find they have prices more expensive than you would find them selling by the brand themselves. I've seen Arcteryx bibs selling for $400+ where as I've purchased the same pair new on eBay for $200. I go to thrift stores to support communities and get cool items at a very fair price. This store seems a little bit more like a boutique than a thrift store. That being said occasionally, I will find good deals there 1/10 visits read more

Woah....Your prices are totally outrageous. Please consider lowering them for your used items. i.e.: $70 for a used end table? $60 for a used, pilled sweater? Great, fun items but they're too expensive. Also went to donate items...the lady in the back dug through my bag and picked out a couple of things and said they don't want the rest. Losing interest. read more

I have been donating to this thrift shop since it opened. It is a great cause. However, the last few times I brought in my donation the staff was rude and dismissive. I will be taking my donations to the new Humane Society thrift store now. read more

This is my favorite place to shop! But recently their prices for used items have been marked ridiculously high! Not sure what is going on. People, like me, shop there because we can't afford to buy new. It's not fair. read more

I'd love to say this is a nice place but I just had the worst experience today thanks to the dirty blonde lady with bangs. Another employee gave me a basket to shop around with because my arms are full and I'm buying tons of stuff from their store (shouldn't that be great??) and this awful woman stares at me and says I can't have it, and how I'm ruining the experience for other customers, and I start apologizing profusely, saying I had no idea because another woman gave it to me to help! She gave me the dirtiest look ever and rolled her eyes at me. Oh my god - what did I do to deserve that? The older women who work here are angels, but this woman needs to either get a better attitude or get out. Can't believe that, so unlike tahoe. read more

Was in town for a sports event and decided to check out the town's thrift store. Well...the town needs to step up and donate more to this shop because there wasn't much to look at. The shop is organized but there was not one thing that caught my eye. I expected more snow clothes and there were none. Ehhhhh... read more

We come to Truckee several times a year, and always find something worth buying! It's very busy, well stocked; we find the staff friendly and very busy. You see lots of locals here! There's lots of parking. read more

You have to spend 10. 00 To use your debit card. They do not like dirty money or one hundred dollar bills. Some days there are nice ladies working. Other days the got snob ladies. The clothes seems to be crammed on the racks. Leaves not much room to look at the ladies shirts. The books is good to buy most are 2.00 or 3.00 read more

The selections seemed not in good repair. Maybe they are in transition for the summer but I didn't enjoy my experience so will not be returning. However, the staff were very nice. read more

This is a great Thrift Store that provides a place for locals to drop off donations, find good deals and they support a really worthy cause. For all those people who complain about the prices, what do you expect? They have employees to pay (everyone who works there is NOT a volunteer), a service to help support and there's no reason for them to charge any less than they do. This season I've found some practically new Patagonia jackets/pants for $40 to $60. Brand new these would have been $200+ each. It's also a great place to find kids snow gear and used skis/skates in addition to housewares, books and games. By far one of the best thrift stores I've ever been to and IMO the best in the area. read more

For a thrift store, it is pricey, it's the only game in town, so they have take advantage of the opportunity. They just need to remember the items they are selling are not new, and the price should reflect that. Now I get it if the the item is an antique, but this is a thrift store not a antique store! They would move more stuff if they priced it to sale! read more

Had a few items to donate, so we took them to the Hospice Thrift Store. The place was busy with shoppers, and I noticed a lot of good deals while walking through the shop. The staff there were friendly and helpful. read more

The cashier at Incline is rude, rude, rude, rude. She puts you down with a quick comment of trash talk. Act very snobbish over junk they price as if it was new. read more

Great place to find seasonal items. Staff is nice and also helpful. Even donating was easy

OVER PRICED & RUDE workers. Bought a huge coffee table and they wouldn't help me to my car with it- weren't busy- just didn't want to help. Bought a sweater there and once I got home I looked up the brand and they were selling brand new ones for cheaper online... don't waste your time here. read more

I was excited to check out new location. And was super disappointed :(I agree with other peeps. Way too expensive for a thrift store. Not great finds. Try lowering your prices, Will turnover merchandise & you will be busier!! read more

I absolutely love this thrift store. They pretty much have new things every day at really good prices. You can find namebrand stuff such as Marmet, The North Face, Spider, Columbia, and many other reputable brands for very affordable prices. they do a pretty good job of not putting out things that have extreme wear on them which I think is very helpful. All the other reviews saying this store is too expensive are full of crap. They have a very small section of more expensive designer brands that have been donated but it's a very small section the rest of the store has great stuff at amazing prices. read more

They just don't learn. Prices continue to be sky high. Now they've decided to try to 'justify' their ridiculous pricing by writing what full retail would be on the price tag. For example, some sort of West Elm lighting fixture was $225 but because the front packaging was missing you couldn't even see what the fixture looked like. Or a broken plastic basket for $8, more than it would be at retail. Their inventory isn't turning over, it just sits there collecting dust. read more

This is a pretty decent thrift store I have always enjoyed coming here. They have a new location off of West River St. If you are donating items here make sure you check with them that they will accept your items before bringing them in. They can sometimes be selective on what they accept as far as furniture, clothing etc and sometimes they get full and cut off donations- so you may want to call in advance. As for the quality of items it can be pretty hit or miss, but sometimes there are some great finds and vintage items. Pricing can sometimes be a bit higher, but usually the pricing is fair and I think it is really positive that it all goes for a good cause to support Hospice care. read more

I do enjoy coming here but most of the volunteers are rude (why be there if you don't won't to be!) the pricing is a bit all over the place, obviously different people are pricing and tagging the items and don't really know the value. Depending on who is there they don't really take items you would think they would. Overall it's fun to go and see what's there. read more

Nice staff wide selection, wish prices were bit more thrifty but definitely a good spot to find items all over the board.

This must be an excellent source of quality used household goods and clothing since they would only take our most awesome donations and rejected some pretty nice stuff. So I can only assume that everything in there is splendid. read more

The new location for Truckee's Hospice Thrift is bigger, all the better to carry even more goodies. I made a donation and got a receipt for it. Folks seemed pleasant, and lots of good-natured conversations all about the store. This time I was interested in children's books. Large selection, and I did find a good one for the grandkids. read more

But the service was horrible they refuse to price items they refuse to give items that were right at their feet price and then put them out for sale I asked I waited half an hour and nothing would happen won't come back here again. read more

This thrift store is more expensive than a retail store. Staff is unpleasant to deal with and often rude, especially when dropping off items to donate. I don't get it. I want to like this place but it's just straight up unpleasant and expensive place. read more

Love, love, love this place. It was HOPPING on a Tuesday at noon. So many treasures and so inexpensive. Who cares if you take something home and don't love it? Just donate it back AND you are giving to Hospice. Every time I took a round, merchandise changed. Go repeatedly and help those at the end of their life! read more

This great community support has a wide variety of items that change daily. Its definitely worth the stop for a visitor but locals sometimes stop several times a week. Its saddens me to read the harsh reviews about the staff. They are a group of dedicated hard working people who try to do the best to benefit what the thrift store actually benefits- the Tahoe Forest Hospice program! The complainers dont see them daily deal with mountains of "hidden " dirty, stained, broken items that are donated. They truly appreciate donators that understand that what can be taken in is not someones whim but details not in anyone's control like amount of retail area legally allowed to sell in or CA laws prohibiting the sale of some items. Please keep on mind employee or volunteer- makes no difference. They all pour their heart into a often thankless job. Please continue to support this fantastic organization with your donations and purchases! read more

This used to be one of my favorite thrift stores especially when it was run by volunteers. It is now so overpriced and the staff is unfriendly. I want to support Hospice and donate items but last few times have been subpar. read more

Good store to find some Knick knacks......found lots of baby/kid books at a really good price.

Ugh, this place! I was super excited to hit this place up, even after reading the more recent negative-ish reviews. *sigh* They really need someone to help them with their pricing, for one. I found multiple items at nearly new prices- not why I shop at thrift stores. And selection is, I'm sorry to say, lacking. Disappointing, but maybe you'll be more lucky than I. read more

Gosh, this is my favorite place to donate items as well as buy items in Truckee. Usually, when I go to donate items, I'm in there for hours looking but also buying great items. I've found some great buys on lamps and other household items. My favorite purchase has been several fur coats!!! One of which is a silver tipped fox fur for $50. I don't know why people complain about the poorly run business aspect because it's not a business, it's a CHARITY. I believe that everyone in there are volunteers because I am considering volunteering there. The sale of donated items go to hospital based programs for HOSPICE (people dying) or cancer victims. I can only imagine that those who complain are from the San Francisco or Bay area, the uppity type. Utah gal, Rhi, Lana, and Bruno, get a HEART and a life. Chaplain Judy read more

Store has clothes, housewares, books, very basics nothing vintage most items are about 1 to 5 years old. Books are in good condition and a good variety. As for the customer service, the staff seems to be friendly to locals and cold towards tourists. I saw a lady ask to use the bathroom and the workers in the back room snubbed her and said no. Minutes later someone else asked and they smiled and said yes. read more

Definitely worth a stop. This thrift store tends to get a lot of donations from the "junior league" set of the Truckee/Tahoe basin, so there is a lot of good stuff. Better for women and kids than men, as far as clothing goes. Like many thrifts, they use the colored tag method of rotating stock, so one color is always 50% off, and you may be in for a real bargain. Several rooms to this place--walk all the way through. Good prices on books and kitchen stuff, and a fair amount of furniture. The Hospice has another thrift store in Kings Beach too. The people in the Kings Beach outpost are a little less friendly than the Truckee employees, in my opinion. But the Kings Beach store has lots of good stuff too. read more

Decent, small, can be unorganized and a bit messy. I didn't have any interactions with the staff - I was looking for a few household replacement items and didn't find what I needed, but I picked up a few books for a friend who was at home recuperating and it was nice that I didn't have to pay much for them, I think $1 for hard covers. read more
