What's a great escape from the smell of petroleum refineries in the area? A smoky casino, apparently! I don't like casinos, though I do like casino history. If I were rating on that, I'd give it one star, but that wouldn't be fair to little Caesar. (Caesar's is the current operator. No Binion here.) The smoke is bad. Very few people were lighting up, but the stagnant remainders of "freedom" made my throat burn. (And no, a token smoke-free area completely surrounded by smoking is nothing but a cruel charade! You gotta be kidding!) It's a pleasant place otherwise: nice and spacious inside, a good variety of slots and tables to lose your money and pay for the lovely lights, and staff were friendly. Would I go back? I have no idea. It's not my scene to begin with, but I don't think I'd protest if someone dragged me there. If there were a next time, I'd bring a good mask. Man, the comments here couldn't be anymore valid. If you're a non-smoker I don't recommend coming to this casino. As soon as I walked in I was overwhelmed with the smell of cigarette smoke making it very hard for me to breathe. They do have a non smoking section but the smoke smell is so overwhelming from the other sections it really doesn't make a difference. Left after ten minutes of walking around the casino. read more

I am deeply disappointed and frankly, outraged, by the treatment my son received at Horseshoe Casino. My son, an active-duty military member, was home on a very brief leave, and we chose to visit your establishment to make the most of our limited time together. However, despite presenting his valid military ID, your staff refused him entry. This completely ruined the precious few hours we had planned as a family. To deny a service member entry, especially one home on leave, is not only disrespectful but also incredibly disheartening. You effectively stole valuable time from a family reunion that was already far too short. DEGENERATE SMOKERS PARADISE There's a reason most states don't allow smoking indoors anymore. Maybe armpit Indiana will wake up in another hundred years. One step into this place and you realize that most have blazed up. Our visit lasted about 15 minutes. For every minute you stay here, you're likely to lose it on the backend of your life. Only one of their restaurants was open on a busy Saturday, the others looked to be permanently shut down. Can't say I'd want to cigarette steak or a cigarette burger though. But who needs food when you can smoke a few packs of cigarettes instead. Table games were jammed with degenerates as far as the eye could see. They allow people to drag chairs over to their one open craps table and sit, taking up the space for two. A lot of oxygen tanks, teethless folk and scuffed knuckles on the premises. I came here this time to play a little poker on a Saturday afternoon and kill some time while in the area. I've been here a few times going back many years actually, but it was always just to enjoy one of the eateries housed here. I did also grab a bite to eat at their H Burger and visited their Seven Stars VIP Lounge, but will review those separately. Why No Limit Texas Hold 'Em then (that is, why the most popular by far variant of poker played these days)? For one, I was on a boys' fun day out with my high roller brother-in-law, so why not try to take other suckers' money? For another, we were in the area to attend a function at the newish and not far away Hard Rock Casino but they don't have poker there for whatever reason. It seems apparent though that poker isn't a high enough margin operation for them as there is plenty of other gambling going on there. Anyway, the poker room here worked and I only had a 15 minute wait after checking in at about 1pm. They only had 3 tables going and there were 6-7 players at my table. They have a total of 34 tables and in their heyday as "the" poker room of the midwest, all of these tables would have been occupied, and with a healthy waitlist time. They're way past their heyday now, but I enjoyed my 2 hours of poker entertainment here nonetheless. It was interesting for me to compare them to the vibrant poker room at Rivers Casino in Des Plaines which is the current hot spot for Chicagoland casino poker. Visit on June 6th @ 11pm: I witnessed a female employee of 360 Pizza take her hat off scratch her head, and then scratch her nose in front of the Pizza Bar. I asked her to please wash her hands before serving anyone. I ended up leaving because I lost my appetite. Horsehoe Casino is absolutely filthy! I'm really just...indifferent. My husband and I stopped here on our drive from Cleveland to Chicago. We have both worked in casinos and are always curious to check out any we come across. It's obviously an older casino and Indiana is not like it's neighboring states that don't allow for indoor smoking. The smoking cannot be contained, so the non-smoking areas are irrelevant. I see it mentioned in other reviews and I'll just add that the smell is much more obvious when you come from a state where it's not allowed. I'm sure the locals are nose deaf to it. Anyway, there are a variety of slots and denoms. We played a little virtual roulette, as we're not confident enough for actual tables lol. My husband got a dollar stuck on the machine. We pressed the service light and no one came, so we left it. Visited the bar in the middle. Drinks were pricey (to be expected) but good. It wasn't super crowded on a Thursday early afternoon but, for whatever reason, the women's restroom was soooo busy. There was a team member actively working in it, so I'm glad for that. I will say that I'm envious of the coin counting machine their cage offers. That's something my casino didn't have! Poker room looked slow at that time, only 2-3 tables open. 03/23/21 - I came here today to collect my $75 million dollars & they said they have no mo money. All kidding aside we came down here as a favor to my wife's former coworker so she could get her 1099's. She use to live in Chicago but retired & moved back to Batangas in the Philippines. You might think this is crazy but when you win $11,000 & $4,000 at 2 different casinos you have to report the winnings. I'm not much of a gambler. I don't like to throw my money away so as a rule I don't gamble much. While I was waiting I lost a whopping $10 on the slot machines. Some of my wife's coworkers go to the casino on a regular basis. Her friend told me she said her loss limit @ $200. Once the $200 is gone she would stop. Only on this particular night her 2 coworkers weren't ready to leave. So on this particular night she ended up staying & playing & ended up winning $11,000. Yowser what a stroke of luck. There doesn't seem to be anything that would make me Want to come back to the casino. Typical casino w/lots of machines & colored lights. Warning, this is a a COVID-19 review lol. I went with a few friends and there was a temperature check at the front of the casino, along with ID checks. You must always wear your mask while at the casino unless you're eating or drinking of course. There was also social distancing enforced through the spacing of slot machines and number of people that can be at a table at any given time. Overall, I had a great time and enjoyed myself. The pizza was delicious and the service was great. The only thing that I wish they would do is come through the slots and clean the handles as patrons leave their seat. Stopped here while coming thru Chicago - what I like about this casino is it is off on its own island and away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Chicago etc. There is plenty of parking linked onto the building, parking garage, as well as plenty room around the casino so you don't feel overwhelmed. After eating at Binion's Steakhouse in the casino, we retired to the gaming floor to try our luck. The floor is huge ... it seemed like acres of space ... but there was one big negative - smoking. The gaming space was nice and roomy and offered all the usual betting venues ... slots, baccarat, black jack, roulette, craps, etc. The only negative was that this casino - unlike most others in Illinois and Indiana - does allow smoking. No matter how hard they try to exhaust the fumes from smoking (and I was a long time smoker) you cannot get rid of it in this room. It really was choking. For this reason alone, even though it was a nice gaming floor and an enjoyable experience, we probably won't return. Parking was easy-peasy and everything was very safe - security was more than adequate. If they solve the smoking fumes problem (maybe getting better ventilation) this place would be more welcoming. While they have a non-smoking section (which is a bit of a joke when the floor reeks of smoke) ... they need to make it bigger and not hide it away in the attic. To give up $30 per hour at the blackjack table just to take in the sights, sounds, and awful-quality air is totally worth it. Dealers were all really friendly. To us. We celebrated our brother's birthday here. He LOVES the Village Square buffet. The variety is hard to beat, but for dessert go with froyo or gelato. The cupcakes did NOT taste fresh. I did NOT like that they changed some shuttle stops every 4 hours instead of 2. Chinatown has shuttles EVERY hour, for free. If you drive there's plenty of indoor parking. The cashier who admitted us to the buffet was pleasant, funny and honest. She said the frozen margarita was not nearly as good as the one on ice. I agree they smoke here is ridiculous, and I have not had much luck with the non-smoking section for slots. I am not certain if the tables are non-smoking. Had an opportunity to see Gregory Porter and Terisa Griffin this past Friday. What an awesome show. Extraordinary artists and musicians. We were in the center of row H, so it was an ideal location to see them up close. However, the actual seats were atrocious. They were welded folding chairs designed for small children. Surely not worthy of the price (~$160) for an uncomfortable seating arrangement. I literally had to lean to sit on one butt cheek. My brother complained as well about how cramped his felt. This is an average casino experience. Lots of slot machines with average variety of manufacturers. The craps and blackjack tables were sufficiently staffed and players and staff were friendly. More servers, security, and cleaners are desperately needed however. Couldn't easily find servers and security on the floor. The slot machines had ashtrays that were dirty or even full of butts. Paper cups were also littering the slots and the shelf under the craps table. Not pleasant. We hope this casino improves. We like to come here from time to time. read more

Hammond Indiana, for the first three things (in fact, Horseshoe can't give out complimentary drinks in accordance with state law, and that blows). We came to see Judas Priest, though little did we know we'd have to trek through a corridor of smog to get there. Thick, silver plumes of Newports came wafting out of thousands of ash trays as we journeyed across the floor lined by aisles of vibrant slot machines. It made the air quality of Los Angeles seem acceptable by comparison. Real classy. Cigarettes, cigars, e-cigs (joints? spliffies??) everything is fair game. The other borderline maddening feature about Horseshoe is their completely bogus, subjective entry policy. When you walk in, there's two podiums off to the right side and a wide open area, manned by a single 'security specialist'. Their job? Judge you based on your appearance. If there's any doubt in their mind that you're under 30 years old, you have to patiently wait in line off to the right. Normally I'd have no problem getting carded, but what drove me nuts was the complete lack of impartiality: "excuse me sir, you still have most of your teeth and don't reek of unfiltered Camels. may I please ask you to wait an extra 20 minutes while we conduct a background check and full cavity search?" "wait wha-" During our extended time in line -- a solid quarter hour -- I saw several younger twentysomethings scoot in past the pathetic rent-a-cop when he wasn't looking. I even saw one fresh faced teen who pulled a baseball cap down to hide his face.....no questioning whatsoever. At this point I half expected to see two kids stacked on top of one another, hidden underneath a trenchcoat and slowly wobbling toward the entrance. Three Rivers near O'Hare Airport and Harrah's in Joliet are both smoke-free casinos that offer the same stuff (and you won't have to pay $5.20 to cross the Skyway toll, either!!) Easy in though the traffic was hectic, but turned out to be gamblers coming in, though the concert was packed, we were able to get in and go straight to our seats - yeah, we were late :(, but considering, no wait at all! Drinks were reasonably priced, no food available, which was no problem... The only complaint was exiting the parking structure, which were full of bottlenecks on each floor. They have a nice variety of slot machines, many of the same new ones as Vegas. I appreciate the attempt at a non smoking slot area. There are free soda machines scattered around so you can help yourself and not have to wait for a cocktail waitress. The prices of drinks are reasonable if you choose to drink. The bathrooms are clean. There is plenty of parking. I really have nothing bad to say about this place. Except for the smoke! If that won't bother you then I'd say it's worth the trip! read more

I had never been to the Horseshoe before 2022 I've been 8-10 times as of currently and the service is lacking. They are taking all the chairs for roulette and asking everyone to stand. WHY? The limits on non-busy hours is ridiculously high. Slot machines are taking extra off when you spin you push the service button you are lucky if someone comes. The energy is negative from from customer service, managers to dealer and food staff. Came here over the weekend with a group of friends to see Jay Leno do stand-up. I honestly have nothing to complain about, and am surprised by the number of poor reviews. Rode over to the casino on my friend Mike's boat from 31st harbor. It took about half an hour and we were able to dock up and walk right to the venue. The theater was very nice. Comfortable seating, very clean, and a great staff made that didn't really care that I was three sheets to the wind upon arrival and carrying two drinks with me in. I just experienced a terrible experience at this casino. I'm a new mom and my mother and aunt wanted to come and get tickets briefly at the box office here at the Venue. Granted there was a big confusion! However, the man at the desk checking ID's should've told me that I was not able to bring my newborn in with me to run in and out. What also should've happened was after we notified them about briefly going up to the box office, he should have told us it was not open and they only sell last minute tickets. Now, moving forward we were not notified any of this. While we were not coming in there to gamble ... we passed many working security to get to the box office. On our way back out ... we were approached by three men. Granted they told me I was not aloud to bring the baby in ... so we immediately told them we were already leaving and only came to pick up tickets to a concert. Granted two of the men said no problem, this is our fault and immediately left us alone as we were walking out as is. BIGGEST ISSUE: David R. had a very rude and nasty approach as if it was my fault and I should've known better but I did not and no one told me otherwise, neither. This man sat in my face the entire time walking out rudely talking to my family and harassing me for my ID as I was literally walking out the front door. He sat there continuously reporting what I was wearing to someone and badgered me in my face with my newborn child. I felt extremely attacked! That type of attitude should have been given to the employees that let me in and walk so far. Me not my family spoke rudely to him and we kindly told him to get out of our face and he is approaching the matter all wrong. If you look on the cameras we were only there for 5 minutes! In & Out. I am 26 years old. I have been here all but twice and had a good experience but due to this man rudely handling this situation and attacking me. Of all the places i could have gone to celebrate nye, i chose this place. Never again will i make that mistake! After only 2 hrs, i was told to leave for being "too intoxicated" i had one white claw when i arrived and drank a cup of water before ordering a glass of champagne for the countdown. Once that was over, my friends and i head to the bar to get another round of drinks before hitting the tables. Well, as soon as my boyfriend brought the drinks back, two ladies approached us to tell us we had to leave because of my "intoxication" which was complete bs! I understand i might look young, but i am 26 yrs old and know my limits! After insisting I was ok, two officers came to escort us out but before doing so, they made sure to snatch the drinks out of our hands. As if being kicked out isn't embarrassing already. And to add on, its funny how they waited for us to buy the overpriced drinks before kicking us out! why not stop us from entering the bar area to begin with? The four of us are escorted to one of the exits, where we would have to wait for our uber. Surprisingly, they allowed us to wait inside and not in the freezing cold! The two ladies who initially kicked us out, waited further inside the casino, just watching us till we left, clearly on some power trip. I was shocked that the officers were insisting that i was too intoxicated after showing them i could walk in a straight line(wearing heels) and with no slurring of my words. But I guess thats how this casino treats paying customers. No wonder the casino is empty! Rude and disrespectful. Unfortunately, none of us(4ppl) had the chance to collect our winnings due to being kicked out so abruptly and i doubt any of us will make the 45 min drive to this awful place ever again. Although there are lots of big, new, highly electronic games, there are very few officially licensed ones. So there's no Game of Thrones, Sex in the City, Waking Dead, etc. It is a very smoky casino. We go to Vegas frequently, and I would compare the smoke factor to be on par with Fremont. Also to be noted, with the new Indiana gambling laws, the line for sports betting on Sunday morning was long and extensive. All in all, we won't be making the trip up here again anytime soon. We will just save our pennies to go back to Caesars properties in Vegas instead. read more
