Parking lot

I hate to give a natural feature such a bad rating, but hear me out. So Horseshoe Bend is in Glen Canyon National Recreational Area which is free, but the parking lot belongs to the city of Page and you have to pay for it. HOWEVER, the parking lot is also pretty aggressive about shaking you down for money, meaning that there are staffed toll booths, and also one way traffic spikes so that if you drive the wrong way your tires get shredded. Like yes, it is important that people should pay, but it is also very unwelcoming. Also, even though they have brought in over $20 million from the fees so far, they can't even bother to stock their vault toilets with hand sanitizer even at the start of the day. Since there's so many visitors, I can only shudder to think of how many people are walking around with fecal hands. Otherwise, a short stroll leads to a cool view point of the canyon, although the water is lower in the canyon.

I've visited both in June and Sept/October. Both times it's been hot as hell! The wind DOES NOT HELP AT ALL! BUY the cold water at the entrance if you don't have any! You're gonna need it. Bathrooms available in the parking lot.... NOT along path to nor at the viewing area. Don't get me wrong, the scenery is beyond beautiful and worth every bit of discomfort! This landmark is NOT ADA compliant! One would need an adult stroller or someone to carry anyone who cannot walk the distance across soft dirt/gravel road to get to the viewpoint!

Absolutely worth the stop when visiting Horseshoe Bend! This place is such an incredible photo spot and truly one of those must-see locations when you're in the area. The views are unreal in person, and we took so many amazing pictures here. I came with a group of about 15-20 girls and we all had such a fun experience. The walk over was manageable, and once you get to the overlook, it's definitely one of those "wow" moments. It was $10 per car to enter, and unfortunately the America the Beautiful pass doesn't work here since it's separate from the national park system. Still, totally worth the fee for the experience and views. The only thing I wasn't too crazy about were the bathrooms -- definitely different from what I'm used to at California national parks. I was very glad I brought my own flushable wipes just in case. But honestly, that didn't take away from the experience at all. If you're anywhere near Page or the Grand Canyon area, this is absolutely a must-stop destination!

This was an awesome view. A little scary bc no barrier from falling off at the time we went. But it was beautiful.

Rest stop with bench and shelter along the hike. Here 2 rest stops along the trail.

This deserves to be a 10 star!!! A truly amazing breathtaking vista point of Horseshoe Bend. The images area amazing but really don't do justice when you're here soaking in this glorious majestic view in person. A true wonder of Mother Nature. Definitely need to see this if you're visiting Grand Canyon. It's a 2.5 hrs drive from Grand Canyon but so so worth it. EV owners. Make sure to charge up to your max range at Grand Canyon valley because there are NO chargers during the 2.5hrs drive between Grand Canyon to Page. There is a Tesla supercharger in Page. Happy Trails!!!

Our first stop on our tour was Horseshoe Bend. This majestic site was created by nature's sheer forces and millions of years. The site can be accessed by a winding trail that will lead you to the precipice of the 1,000 foot plateau, overlooking the bend. Many visitors flock to this site and I could see why. It's an awe inspiring view of a land that is worth visiting and enjoying.

*Totally worth checking out: beautiful feat of nature *Every time I have come here it's different- the time of day, cloud cover, clear skies, season etc all impact the beautiful hues of the rocks and Colorado River *Cheap $10 parking fee per car *pit toilets available at the parking area * Gradual graded decline to the view point... and also that means a gradual incline to return. Also note that Page is in the high desert (4300 above sea level)... so the walk could be a little stress on the body if you are not used to the elevation change * This is high desert- so plan accordingly- hydrate and wear sunscreen... and I highly recommend a hat or sunbrella... it comes in handy on the way back as most of the time the sun is going to be directly on you. * Couple shaded seating areas but none at the view point understandably *Dont trust AI on this. Trust your body. Someone told me AI said it was a short 5 min walk... uh no. Maybe a sprint and even then... no. There are tour companies that supposedly get you pretty close ... but not at this exact location and not if you are paying $10 instead of what you will be paying with a guided tour. It is a walk...about 1.5 miles round trip *The path is paved ( hardened sand?) but sandy. Wheelchairs, walkers and crutches are doable... but I would imagine would be hard and you may need some assistance *Puppy friendly - but pack out what your doggy drops. That also goes for general etiquette of packing out any water bottles, wrappers etc that you bring in.

We visited Horseshoe Bend during Thanksgiving break 2025 with my husband. He had been here many years ago and mentioned that the area has changed quite a bit since then--there's now an updated parking lot, an admission fee, and a paved trail leading to the overlook. He also noticed that the shape of Horseshoe Bend itself looks different compared to before, likely due to erosion over time. It feels like the landscape is slowly changing, and eventually it may not look the same as it once did. I'd say it's worth visiting if you have the chance--otherwise, you might miss seeing it as it is today before time continues to reshape it.

we were able to take the self guided tour of horseshoe bend. you prepare to walk, but you're walking shoes on enjoy the views have your camera ready. Be prepared to travel downhill take water with you wear sunglasses. Also, it does tend to get windy at times so be prepared. Dust will be flying, but nothing beats the views. Also this was a free event, which makes things easier. Enjoy your time and it's not limited.

If you're in Page, Arizona, you're probably visiting Antelope Canyon (Upper or Lower) and then coming by Horseshoe Bend. All of the above are magnificent creations by nature and worth seeing IRL to really appreciate them. There will be a crowd here up until sunset when it closes but people seem to like to visit at sunset. They only have a small area with railing but this is the best area to photograph all of Horseshoe Bend as unobstructed as possible. There are way more areas without railing and even a large rock that you can climb on but if you go to the ledge and fall, it's about a 1,000 foot drop so beware.

Gorgeous Spot. Parking costs $10 per car. The parking lot and and bathrooms do not have lights. It gets really dark at night. Plan on hiking down and hiking up. The path is not lit. At sundown it gets dark!! The overlook is open. There are tons of great photo spots. The more adventurous you are, the more fun you'll have. Just be mindful, if you drop off the edge, you'll be likely done.

It's approx 0.8mile walk (my Garmin was tracking it) from the parking area to the horseshoe, with the slightest downhill slope on a gravel pathway, nothing strenuous. It seemed longer than 0.8mi on the way back though, maybe because it was 104 degrees that day (July 2025) There are no toilets once you leave the parking area, so use those porta potties before you start walking. This was on my bucket list - I think it's pretty cool that the Colorado River decided to do a complete U-turn to carve out this beautiful area. However, it's out in the middle of nowhere, combine with Antelope Canyon for a day trip or stay overnight in Page, AZ to rest before heading back.

For $10 it's cool to see. As others have said, there's nothing keeping you from falling off the edge except your own free will. It's a huge bend in the shape of a horseshoe that you're able to see over the top of. Great for photo ops, cool to walk around near, but dear god I would not come here with kids, you will have a heart attack. The walk there takes about 15 minutes each way. Even if you're not super in shape it's a relatively easy walk. I had wished there were some facts about Horseshoe bend along the way (maybe I missed them?). It would've been cool to have some context around what you're seeing, but as others have said it is a pretty cool and dramatic sight to see. For those who are afraid of heights, there are one or two spots where a railing separates you from the literal edge of the bend, which is where I'd recommend standing to grab your picture!

Do you have to hike a lot? I have 1 years old and 2 years old , is it child friendly for their age?

A 15 min paved walk down to the bend overlook. There are mostly unfenced areas at the overlook, so young kids would need to be 100% supervised carefully. Nothing to see on the path - the view is all over a cliff with a small fenced area.

Spoke to Lisa and Ashley and they got me squared right away. They explained everything with no rush and gave local recommendations to the town. As a first timer to the lake, my partner and I did the mistake to start kayaking from the Wahweap Marina (BIG MISTAKE!!) to the Antelope Canyon and man did we regret it!! lol Please, please, please start your kayaking from where they recommend, the Antelope Point Launch!! We ended up doing a 20 mile (9 hour!) kayak trip around the entire Antelope Island! We were exhausted, but feeling safe around many boats, we decided to push to the end and luckily we made it! There is a small channel short cut at the north end of the Antelope Canyon to the Wahweap Marina side of the lake. We called the kayak office (while in the middle of the water!) and explained our situation, they totally understood and so we arranged to drop off the kayak the next morning. Long story short, life happens with new kayakers and this company truly cares and listens. I never write long reviews, but they deserve all the praise and a 5 out of 5 stars. Thanks for everything!

The day before our tour, Julia called to let us know strong headwinds were expected and asked if we wanted to adjust our time. We already had a different morning tour scheduled, and they were incredibly accommodating with our plans. At the launch site, we met our guide Logan, and we were lucky that it was just our family of four on this tour. Husband and I wore aqua shoes and my daughters opted to wear their Birkenstock sandals and go barefoot, which was fine if you're okay with getting red mud on them. Logan was friendly, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. I was a bit nervous since I'm a beginner kayaker, but he let us move at our own pace. It ended up being a great workout while still feeling peaceful and relaxing. The scenery was absolutely stunning. The canyon was quiet, beautiful, and not crowded at all. We paddled across Lake Powell and into the canyon, and the cool lake water felt amazing in the warm end-of-March weather (mid-80s). They provided life jackets, offered bottled water, and Logan even took photos of us both on the water and at the end of the canyon, which we really appreciated. He also shared helpful paddling tips along the way. The entire tour lasted about 2.5-3 hours and was a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Highly recommend for families and beginners looking for a scenic and well-guided kayaking experience!

You have to take a tour to visit Antelope Canyon, so I shared my thoughts on that experience on the tour company's page. When visiting Antelope Canyon, you have the choice of either Upper Canyon or Lower Canyon. Upper Canyon is the more popular and famous option as it's where the light beams occur at different times of the day. Lower Canyon is where you get deeper into the canyon. No matter which canyon you choose, make sure to book your reservations weeks in advance. If you don't, especially if it's a weekend or peak season, you'll likely be out of luck. We visited on a Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. Antelope Canyon has become one of the most popular attractions in Arizona thanks to TikTok and Instagram. In many ways, it's becoming the new "Grand Canyon." Even if you're not big on social media, if you're a certain age, you know Antelope Canyon. Why? It was the standard wallpaper on Microsoft Windows for many years. And yes, the pictures are just as mesmerizing as reality at this natural wonder. The incredible formations inside this canyon were caused by many years of flooding and weather elements such as wind. You'll spend about 45 minutes in the canyon taking it the beauty of the canyon which is located on the Navajo Nation reservation. You'll be taking a lot of pictures of yourself, of the canyon, and listening to what your tour guide shares with you about the history of the canyon.
