I was only in nearby Page for one night but it was a memorable one! That evening I looked up where a good spot for night sky viewing was in the area and everywhere overwhelmingly pointed to Lake Powell So I drove to elevated overlook lake at night and set up my tripod and camera to do some astro photography and boy howdy was it a great view! It was a little spooky given just how dark it was but that obviously helped my photos. I had a little forehead light which I highly recommend if you decide to do something similar! I spent about a hour there before the winds started whipping up too much and I feared for the stability of my camera. But it was just so nice to stargaze even without the camera. Highly recommend! The next day on my way out of town I decided to check it out in the daylight. I didn't swim and I didn't do much recreation-ing here but I can say it's BEAUTIFUL. I wish had more time to spend exploring.

Aside from Lake Powell being an amazing lake to see & experience (especially by Houseboat), this lake is killer for smallies (smallmouth bass). Most fishermen probably target stripers on Powell (and that is equally amazing), but getting in the canyons and using plastic shad/grub jigs and dropping the off the rock ledges can be amazing fishing. 100 fish days are not out of the question.

My wife, two teenage sons (17 yrs, 15 yrs), and I visited Lake Powell in early April near Glen Canyon Dam. If you are staying in Page, AZ, it's well worth driving out here in the late afternoon about 1 hour before sunset. Water levels were quite low - you'll notice the "bathtub ring" along the rock face above the water line. The effects of climate change and reduced snowmelt from the mountains feeding into the Colorado River are visible here. In any case, after passing Glen Canyon Dam (after crossing the bridge from Page, AZ), look for the national recreational entrance (south gate) on the right side. After driving through the fee collection area, you'll see an overlook (which is worth a quick stop for a photo). For a closer look, drive all the way to Wahweep Marina (boat launch) - which has a swimming beach. At this location, you can enjoy the sunset and walk up to Lake Powell itself to skip a rock or two. The water was very cold in early April (maybe 40 degrees F), so it's not swimmable, but the sunset views are amazing! Our family really enjoyed Page, AZ - there's a lot to see in the immediate area.

I've been coming to this area since the late 80s because it offers miles upon miles of scenery that can inhabit your spiritual side even if you don't think you're all that spiritual. I remember a tour of the Glen Canyon Dam at that time during which the guide said water levels were a little lower that year due to less rain. I knew even at that time drying forests at the north rim of the Grand Canyon and parts of Colorado were early illustrations of what was to come: the creeping drought and the drying of the American west was no aberration. Fast forward to what is now a visceral reality. A contentious, and to some an outlandish, idea seems to be a more likely outcome: letting Lake Powell drain through the Glen Canyon Dam and into Lake Mead so Hoover Dam can continue generating power. We're nearing a precipice where this region can't support two fully-functioning dams. Lake Powell is just half full and its white bathtub ring is an omnipresent halo that this 20th century century man-made water paradise is fading away.

Lake Powell is located within the Glen Canyon National Recreational Area on the Arizona-Utah border and lies in the heart of The Grand Circle. If you are going to travel to Bryce and Zion National Parks, I highly recommend taking a day or two to visit Page, AZ and Lake Powell. It is well known for taking out small to large boats and exploring the lake. It is massive and has a lot of slot canyons and interesting rock formations. In one of my photos, you can see the large white Navajo sandstone formations at the end of Warm Creek near Wahweap Marina. There are so many little canyons to explore and the town and quite fun as well. I recommend going with a group and renting a house boat for a couple of days if you can afford it :)

Huge lake in midst of canyon of Arizona and Utah. I was on the way to Vegas from Page and I did a pit stop. Spend some 30 odd minutes, enjoyed the serene beauty surround by the canyon. Lake Powell straddles the border between Arizona and Utah and is one of the most popular land-locked aquatic recreation areas in the United States. This is not only because of its sheer size at 24,322 K acre-feet but because of the rugged beauty and geologic wonders surrounding its shores. Thousands of miles of shoreline accessible only to those whose have a houseboat and a speed boat attached to it. There is a rainbow bridge which is one of the biggest nature made arch in the world, accessible only by boat or 14 miles trek. Beautiful display of nature among rocks.

All of the boats they said they couldn't rent to my family.

Tried to rent a boat at marina at state line. Obnoxious lady told me they stopped renting at 1130 am and said they were sold out. Later she said I could come back at 830a tomorrow and I could try to rent something then. They're were 100 plus of their boats in marina (see picture). I wanted to go out for an hour or two. There was no one else there. This screw the customer and tourist attitude pervades the lake Powell experience unfortunately. In my world when people don't want my money I don't argue w them -- I just leave w my money. Shame on them. Someone will come by and eat your lunch. The owner should heed this warning: this attitude and lack of service will bankrupt you. Never again for this family.

    Is this Ice Cream Canyon?

(7/4/20) Lake Powell: Where in some cases, you cannot be entirely sure whether you are in Arizona or Utah. After collecting our rental kayak, we made the 15-minute drive to Wahweap Marina & Campground. We paid for a day pass (which is good for seven days, I should add), and proceeded down the block. For a moment, we were confused about where to park. There is a parking lot for trailer-hitched vehicles and another lot for boat rentals. Farther back, there's yet another lot for campers. Where were we supposed to go! ** For you kayakers out there: Turn into the boat rental lot and proceed down the dirt road. You will find an unpaved lot which leads to the shore. There are signs posted for vehicles to unload their equipment, though if you can be quick about it, I'd suggest unloading as close to the water as possible. Drive back up the dirt road and find any space on the paved lot (we had no trouble finding a space despite all the 4th of July busyness). My girlfriend and I are fairly new to kayaking. Another way of stating this: We had no idea what we were doing. The first hour was spent sailing in circles, hitting each other's paddles, and braving the choppy waters from the speed boats and jetskis. It was exhilarating! Despite our overt inexperience, we braved the 300-feet-deep waters from shore to shore, landing someplace near Ice Cream Canyon (if we read the map correctly, though it is highly likely that we did not). Like other kayakers, we disembarked to enjoy the view and wade in the cool waters for a little while. After our reprieve, we hopped back onto the kayak, equipped this time with more experience than when we first began. Although we still were fantastically uncoordinated, we were able to paddle back in half the time of our first voyage! Victory. With less than an hour to spare before our rental kayak was due, we returned to Page, taking some last glances of the translucent lake behind us. | Verdict | The fun we had was beyond words, my friends, and I strongly encourage you to make a trip out to Lake Powell. Bring some friends, be safe amidst the present health circumstances of course, and have a great time. If you're like my GF and I, do take care as you kayak across the lake. Those speed boats leave behind a formidable wake! It's basically a game of aquatic Frogger, and your noble boat is the frog. It beggars belief that such a beautiful place exists in the middle of nowhere (as it feels barreling down the 89), but it's all very real and abundantly worth the trip. We will certainly be back, but not until we've practiced our nautical abilities! 'Til next time.

We made a visit here a week or so ago. Lake Powell is located mostly in southern Utah and is a reservoir on the Colorado river created by the Glen Canyon Dam. It is one of the most impressive sight, and the lake has over 250 square miles of surface area - making it the country's second-largest man made lake. The Lake is a series of canyons with beautiful reddish pink rock formations. We were able to capture some photos but not able to take a boat tour as they were closed due to Covid-19. You can also rent boats and go kayaking. The Glenn Canyon dam overlooks this place, so there is another stop to visit after or before this. If you rent a houseboat out of Antelope Point or Wahweap Marina, you can stay on a beach by Gunsight Canyon. Take your ski boat and paddle boards. We spent a night at Best Western View Of Lake Powell Hotel.

Lake Powell is in Page, Arizona. Located in Lake Powell is the Wahweap Marina which offers guided boat tours, houseboat rentals, and romantic sunset dinner cruises where you can learn the history, geology, and building of the Glen Canyon Dam and other canyons. Lake Powell also offers campgrounds, fishing, kayaking, and hiking trails. Winter season is the slow season, I would recommend planning a trip prior or after winter to enjoy the amenities.

This such a shockingly beautiful place with lake that looks like no other. The cliffs zig zag all over to make for stunning views above and at the shoreline. You must make your way up to Page to see this.

Oasis Of Water In The Desert, Surrounded By Rock Formations & Sand As you work your way through the nothing of a desert from Flagstaff to Page AZ you finally arrive at Lake Powell. Some days are filled with massive crowds of boats everywhere and others a nearly ghost waterway absent of anyone. All in all the water isn't super clean, but it is water in a place seriously lacking otherwise in such a resource. Stop by and see horseshoe bend and the other sights while you are there.

I have the best aunt and uncle ever for taking me on a houseboat in Lake Powell!!! Our boat was beautiful and the scenery was unmatched! I parked at Bullfrog and away we went for a week. Lake Powell is such an incredible place! Seeing stars and the total Milky Way, being out in nature, hiking and exploring. Seeing new plants and animals and staying in the water morning, noon and night! The best vacation I could ask for!! So much fun!!!

The day before our tour, Julia called to let us know strong headwinds were expected and asked if we wanted to adjust our time. We already had a different morning tour scheduled, and they were incredibly accommodating with our plans. At the launch site, we met our guide Logan, and we were lucky that it was just our family of four on this tour. Husband and I wore aqua shoes and my daughters opted to wear their Birkenstock sandals and go barefoot, which was fine if you're okay with getting red mud on them. Logan was friendly, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. I was a bit nervous since I'm a beginner kayaker, but he let us move at our own pace. It ended up being a great workout while still feeling peaceful and relaxing. The scenery was absolutely stunning. The canyon was quiet, beautiful, and not crowded at all. We paddled across Lake Powell and into the canyon, and the cool lake water felt amazing in the warm end-of-March weather (mid-80s). They provided life jackets, offered bottled water, and Logan even took photos of us both on the water and at the end of the canyon, which we really appreciated. He also shared helpful paddling tips along the way. The entire tour lasted about 2.5-3 hours and was a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Highly recommend for families and beginners looking for a scenic and well-guided kayaking experience!

Our group completed the kayak and hike which were very much worth it! We needed slight accommodations and Sid and John were reassuring and supportive for both my mom and I. This tour is really for everyone and I can't recommend this tour company and John enough. Because we traveled during off season, we had the entire lake and trail to ourselves. John left much time for us to take cool pictures and was a wealth of knowledge. He made sure to engage with each person in the group and was successful in getting the more shy individuals to step out of their comfort zones. John and Sid (the other employee) made this tour worth it. They provided awesome recommendations for things in the area and also future outdoor related activities in the U.S. Be sure to pack enough water. Remember you are in a kayak and your items will likely get soaked. Luckily they provide one water proof bag per kayak which can hold your phone and camera. If you feel the need to pack more, I recommend that you bring your own waterproof back pack. I opted to go barefoot in the kayak and wear shoes on the hike. You will have to walk through water to get on and off of the boat. Do not let your size and fitness level deter you from this tour. The team is incredibly accommodating and reassuring, making this the perfect tour for all. Highly recommend this tour and either Sid or John!
