The financial aid office is the worst. I've had problems with it every time I've attended along with my friends and so many other students. They never tell you the right information and try to get you to pay what SHOULD be free or covered under the government. The professors I have had though have been phenomenal. Financial aide with my two student's has been a nightmare. For something that is suppose to be free for this year, it has been a mess since March. Don't waste your time, nothing is free you still have to fill out endless forms that are never "right". Even having them drop off forms in person, still not "right" or enough. No one to help on Friday so it's an endless loop. Go somewhere else that will help. read more

I am a Digital Arts Major at HGTC. The professors that teach this Major are fantastic and they email you right away. They tell you what you want to hear to make your projects look as good as you want them to be and they give you information that makes the projects fun and understanding. They also give you time to do your work even if you don't have a computer of your own. You can stay in there class and use the computers as long as you like until the staff kick you out The other professors, especially the online class professors, never email you back unless it's something that is important to them or if the question catches their eye in some way! Also the FinancialAid doesn't really help you out. They send emails saying "you missed this document... so on so Fourth." And then don't tell you what document you messed and so you get super overwhelmed until you call them. You can't find a lot of the papers they want you to sign on the website sometimes that is frustrating as well. read more

If you want to take a certification class and they try to talk you into a degree don't do it. No matter what they say do not do it. If they can not get you into the certification class you want no matter what they tell you just get up and walk away. I went in just wanting a certification. They said the class was full but if I was already a student I could jump the wait-list. I was ok with that then I was told I could take a business class while I was waiting for a slot to open in the class I wanted. I wouldn't have to take an English or do any essays is what I was told. Well they screwed me. Least they could do if they was gonna screw me this hard was to at least spit on it. nah they did me dirty and went in dry and broke it off in me! Beware do not let them talk you into something else if your class is full they will do whatever they can to get your butt in a seat and the money in their account. read more

Nice County Technical College located in Conway. It is a convenient location right off Rt. 501 southbound. The campus is connected to and in front of Coastal Carolina University. We have come here several times to attend mandatory training for the County. The classrooms are roomy and modern, equipped with the newest A/V equipment. Nice place to attend. read more

I have attended both four year and two year schools over my career. I am very familiar with the process for admissions, so I feel as if I have enough experience in this area to speak with relative proficiency about this matter. I recently was given the opportunity to return to school again through a Veteran's Program. I was actually in a Bachelors program when this opportunity presented itself. The requirements from the Veterans Administrations were that you had to attend a technical or community college. I decided to pursue the additional education available through HGTC. This school has what I would classify as the worst customer/student services I have ever encountered. The process of getting the correct information to the staff here is cumbersome and difficult. They clerical staff in the Admissions and Financial Aid Departments are either completely unhelpful or they are simply not trained in a a sufficient manner to allow them to be helpful. If you ask them a question regarding the reason for a requirement, their basic response is that it is how they do things. I had already completed my financial aid package because I was attending another university. I added this school to the financial aid information and everything was approved. I also had a documented award from the Veterans Administration that was guaranteed for one full calendar year. For some reason, this was not sufficient for the people in the Financial Aid Department at this location. They sent me an email basically stating that they wanted me to start over with the process. The people in the admissions office were no better. It seems the one thing the staff cannot do here is provide answers and assistance to prospective students. At every other school I have ever attended (no less than 4) I have found the staff to be helpful and knowledgeable about the admissions process. This is not the case at all with HGTC. They seem intent on making the experience as difficult and unpleasant as possible. At this point, I have not decided if I am going to continue to pursue admissions here or just start over at another school. I would not recommend this place to anyone based on the complete lack of assistance prospective students receive from the staff. UPDATE 08/13/2013 - My second term here dealing with the Administrative offices was no less productive than the first. I hope the people who work in Financial Aid and the Administrative offices are NOT graduates of this school. It does not speak well of the academics if they are. I have filled out the same forms three times and they cannot seem to keep these in one file. They also apparently do not note student accounts because they ask you the same questions over and over. One of the worst experiences here is dealing with the Veteran's Benefits division. The people who work in that area are either completely untrained or just plain hostile. Be prepared for extreme frustration. read more

It's affordable, so I go. It's a must for my future, so I go. I'm trying to set an example & explain to the value to my son, so I go. However... ... the technology there lacks exponentially. Student engagement there lacks desperately. My experience there is just down right disappointing. I'm in my second year at HGTC & wish there were more options in the area that offer the same price structure. Unfortunately, the area is limited with alternatives. The classrooms are boring & lack enthusiasm. My professor's always seem overwhelmed & over worked. I'm not sure if the college is understaffed or possibly have demanding workloads on their staff, respectively. I wish the professors had more passion in what they teach. I've heard a couple of my professors say: "I don't usually teach this class, but we'll get through this together! " I can appreciate their willingness to work through difficult assignments, but I want an expert or someone well versed in a specific field to teach me the material. Not just a person whose qualified teach. The admissions office & financial aid office always seem extremely busy with frustrated students. The assistance I've always received is mediocre at best & they have a horrible habit of simply passing the buck. I would prefer a system that offers answers & solutions versus vague & unhelpful responses. read more

HGTC is a place to take class but it not a good place to take classes! The Advisors do a poor job and guidance. If you are not knowledgeable yourself, the Advisor will have you enrolled in and take the wrong classes. The Financial Aid department is not much better. In fact the Financial Aid Department is bad at their jobs. They don't even know how to apply and obtain the South Carolina Lottery funds for students. So students just don't receive it. The teachers are so-so. Some are pretty bad though. Some will fail a student if they miss one class because the student was in the hospital and had documentation. Teacher failed the student due to weekly test missed. This was at the beginning of the semester right after add/drop day. So no recourse for a solution. Beware. That is my advise to students. Beware. 1 failed class for this reason will cause you harm due to GPA. read more

Great school for the price. Only thing is they need to work on their financial aid office because the wait is so long...

My daughter attends this college and the staff and faculty continue to disappoint. They fail to respond to financial aid concerns, answer emails only when they feel like it, and overall do not seem to have the best interests of the students in mind. I would never recommend anyone attend this college even as a last resort. These professors should be ashamed of the level of academic nonsense that they try and pass off as teaching. read more
