I needed a 2-foot piece of 1 1/2" stainless steel tubing and one square foot of 1/4" aluminum…read moreplate. The lady at the sales counter handed me a bill for $147 plus tax (total around $160). After regaining my composure, I went home and ordered the items on Ebay and paid a total of $43.39 which included tax and shipping. I try to buy from local merchants, but when they gouge you with outrageous prices like this.....let them go broke.

I contacted El Paso Metals and Steel to obtain quotes on weathered steel. They replied they only…read morehave ever seen that in 1/2" plate or thicker. Weathered steel is manufactured in most common forms: sheet, bar, square and round tubing, etc. whether El Paso Metals and Steel has it or not. The El Paso Metals and Steel sales rep. had ZERO interest in finding out if they could obtain any other forms and was annoyed I made an inquiry about something they had not sold previously. This is ironic since their website says: "Get the right materials for your business or project, whether you're need standard supplies and parts or a custom made piece." "Contact us today for information regarding metal, custom castings and products, or cleaning services. We'll get you what you need." It does not bother me they were not able to supply the materials I was seeking - that can happen. I was a potential new customer for them, but because of their poor customer service on a simple, initial inquiry, I will not be doing any business with El Paso Metals and Supply.

Earlier this year, while beginning my Spring break bike tour into Mexico, the seatback on my…read moreDoublevision broke and I nearly dumped on busy Norzagaray. Fortunately, Juan at Chocolat muffler repair quickly welded it back together and I was able to keep pedaling North to my favorite Cd. Juarez site, Casa de Adobe. After turning around there (I am pushing for this area to become a non-motorized POE), I pedaled East along Ruta Dos, stopping in San Agustin at the Valle de Juarez Museum and camping a bit father along. The next day I literally pedaled to the end of the road, el Porvenir, returned to the USA via FR1088. Anyway, the weld held up wonderfully until a week ago, when I was pedaling North on Yarbrough, uphill, and I felt a familiar give in the seatback. The welds had finally broken through again; after all, it is a seatback, not a muffler. Struggling home, I removed the busted up seatback and motored it to Lone Star Welding, where I met with owner Jerry Oxner. After explaining the situation, he agreed to take this on, despite already overloaded with other, much bigger commercial contracts. I picked up the newly re-built seatback a week later, and I seriously doubt I'll ever have anymore welds breaking--it is very nearly a solid piece of metal now! Of course, that makes it incredibly heavy, some 22lbs/9.9kgs. Many high end uprights weigh less! Regardless, I'm just very, very pleased to have a seatback that'll last far longer than my own back Although he rarely takes such small work, he and his crew sometimes enjoy the unique challenge my Doublevision can present. I'm very fortunate he's willing to take them on, and I for sure don't plan on anymore Doublevision challenges for him (famous last words!). One thing for sure: he & his crew are gifted welders; anybody who has a large commercial project will get only the finest quality work from him!

U-Haul - El Paso

U-Haul - El Paso

My wife and I reserved a tow dolly to tow one of our vehicles for a move. Driving through the night…read moreand packing up our entire lives was already a stressful event, the last thing i needed was a stressful trip to U-Haul, which is what i expected. Man was I wrong. First, i had to delay my appointment two hours because the movers were at my house, and surprisingly that was no issue for the staff. Second, when i got there, i had absolutely no clue what i needed in order to tow the vehicle. Leonardo, the general manager, dropped everything to come take a look at my vehicle to see what i needed in order to make everything operational. Once we got past that point, one of the employees helped us hook the dolly up to my vehicle. Well, the right light on the trailer wasn't illuminating. He identified that the issue was with my vehicle and not the dolly, so he spent 20 minutes under the hood of my car trying to identify and remedy the problem. We learned that it was a large fuse that they didn't have in hand, but again, Leonardo to the rescue. He told me that he could rewire my light in the car and make the dolly brake light work. They took my car into the garage immediately and started working on it. Literally 4 of the employees were teaming together to work on my car so i could hit the road. 30 minutes went by, and they found the source of the issue. One of the prongs under my back bumper were bent and was not sending the electrical current to the trailer. They bent it back in place and VOILA, everything worked. He came back to me to tell me that i was good to go. Free of charge. Oh and by the way, i had my one year old daughter with me, and Leonardo offered up his personal office in case we needed to lay her down or change a diaper. I can't explain how incredibly polite and helpful every member of this location was. In all honesty, this was the most pleasant customer service experience I've ever had in my life. If you have the choice, select this location for anything you ever need! Thanks Leonardo!
