My husband and I have been patients at Horizon Dental for over 20 years, however I will be looking for a new dentist. A couple of years ago, Dr. Sheldon retired and sold the practice. I have found out that he sold it to a corporation out of Illinois. The problem is their billing. I keep receiving bills for a service provided in June of this year. Both insurance companies have sent me EOB's of the amounts they paid. Horizon Dental claims that they have not received payment from one of the companies. I have called at least 5 times and am given a different explanation each time. If they haven't received the electronic payment from insurance then shouldn't they be following up with the company? I NEVER had billing problems until they went corporate and Dr. Sheldon left. read more

I give this business NO RATING as they are not friendly and bill for items that were not used even though I had enough insurance. Dentures were terrible and make me look like I have huge horse teeth and look like huge ape teeth. Not experienced enough there to do proper adjustments. Was told that if I want them remade i would have to pay extra $200 every time they are not right. This business is a scam just to get your insurance and not do the work that they need to do. Do not go to this place. They will tell you that they accept your insurance and then hook you up with a dentist who doesn't accept your insurance so you have to pay full price. They didn't offer to correct the error or make up for thier mistake in some other way. Not all of their equipment works. Not all of their staff knows how to work the functioning equipment. read more

Do not go to Dr. Derrik Johnson at Horizon Dental/Omaha. I was a patient of Dr. S. at this clinic but one of my old silver crowns must of broke and had been waiting to be replaced on Febr 4 but since it deteriorated end of Dec 2019 I asked to be seen earlier in Jan. 2020. I would be able to see a Dr. Johnson on Jan 6, 2020. This dentist is a young man. He proceeded to do #13 and #14 for crowns since I was there for #13 as an urgent matter. Why not do both of them that were scheduled for Dr. S. His assist lady was no hygienist. Dr. J. did not explain why he had to grind down to almost nothing #13. The assist did not know what was happening. What?? I was wrong not to ask to see the cavity on the stub that he states there was. How can a crown adhere to this tiny stub? Called next day....have dr. call me. He did not call until Thurs. I asked him why he ran through the office saying a few words to me and rushed to the other door after I paid. He denied that happened. I told him he lied to me and it is over. I told him if he wanted to pursue me for the balance owed, I could take him to small claims court to get my money back. Today - Jan 10 around 9 am. Office mgr lady calls. We exchange info. No one told me why he had to grind my #13 down to almost nothing. She apologized. They will be refunding my earlier payment to me today. So I did get a response although delayed. Unless I missed something on line, I could not pull up Dr. J. being listed as a dentist in Omaha. ?? read more

If I could leave a zero I would. Went in April 20, 2018 have to wait longer then was expected that's fine. Was told after the dentist saw me how much was needed up front. Told them I could go get the money from my husband and could be back in about 45 mins. If they would do it ( take tooth ) told me No.fast forward to 3 weeks ago. Was told that if I paid 32.50 I was 100 percent covered by my insurance. Called today to double check and make appt was told by some lady named Dawn that I was flagged that the dentist said she didn't think she could help me. Asked if another dentist there would see me and was told No. I have insurance through my husband's work and they refuse to help. The front desk people are rude and the first appt when I came back with the few dollars I needed from my husband I was told I was paid up for the visit. But a month later got a bill stating I owe more money. Don't go there the cubicles are very small and barely any room to move around. If something doesn't seem right then it probably isn't. Get a second opinion before you allow Dr. Sheldon to pull a tooth. As a cash customer without dental insurance Dr. Sheldon must have thought I didn't have a clue. I've had a lot of dental work and make every attempt to keep current on cleanings and such so I have a good understanding of how things work when it comes to my care. Dr. Sheldon said there was nothing to do but pull the tooth in question. I visited this office three times, asking each time if there was nothing else that could be done. The third visit was to have it pulled but something in my gut told me to get a second opinion so I choose to leave at that point. ALSO, Dr. Sheldon did not show me the xray at any of the three visits. Any other dentist I've seen had always shown the xrays as they explained what's needed. Upon going to another dentist for cleaning and exam I was shown the xray and told there was plenty of good tooth remaining to place a crown on. It's now been months and the crown placement by the second dentist has been nothing short of how it should be. I truly believe Dr. Sheldon wanted to pull the tooth because of all the crowns I already had in place and number of root canals I'd had done that could be seen on the xray. It was easy for him to figure out I was someone who cared about my teeth and my smile. As they told me the tooth had to be pull they were also quoting me the price to have a bridge placed which is a minimum of three times the cost of a crown. read more

My husband and I have been patients for years here and have always received great care. Today, my daughter was in town on her way to moving to Scott City, Nebraska. She had a few cavities filled several months ago but has suffered from SEVERE sensitivity since. I called Horizon Dental yesterday afternoon, they had her in this morning and back later this afternoon with Dr Sheldon so he could fix them! I'm so THANKFUL for these folks who helped my girl! THANK YOU, Dr Sheldon and staff! I know "add ons" are no fun and many people wouldn't have helped us out. If you are looking for a new dentist, I highly recommend them. During one of my cleaning appointments, Dr. Sheldon chewed out the dental hygienist because she asked me if it was OK to access some information and he told her that was not necessary. A decent person would have such a discussion when the patient has left. On another occasion, when I questioned their high charges, the receptionist told me that the reason my copays were high is because my insurance was not very good. Maybe their charges are too high! After getting some teeth pulled, the doctor recommended a partial on the top. When the partial was ready it did not fit right and they sent it back several times. After receiving what he said was the finished product, I was not able to wear it since it affected my speech and felt like a metal potato was in my mouth, after paying $1,100!!! I could not go back sooner due to medical problems but when I did go back for a regular cleaning, I told him the partial was not fitting and I was not able to wear it. He said that he would make sure I have a good fit even if that means they have to get me another one. An appointment was scheduled During this appointment, he made a few adjustments and when I explained that it still affected my speech he said I need to wear it so I get used to it. He also said, "I don't want to sound flippant, but you have a very dry mouth and that may be the problem." The partial is the problem since my lower partial works just fine! Do not go to this place! Horizon Dental was my dental office for 14 years. For my last checkup, I was told that I had a cavity. The dentist (Dr. H) drilled a tooth that already had a filling in it. There was no mention of a cavity in a tooth that was already filled. It was a molar. The tooth bothered me for several months, so I went back. The dentist that did this work had been fired, so, I saw someone else that had been at this office for a long time. According to the dentist, (Dr. S) that was to fix the issue, the previous dentist left an exposed nerve. I was asked if a crown or cap had been mentioned at the time of the services. The answer was no. Dr. S and his assistant let slip that because of work like this, the dentist that did the work was no longer there. So, I was told that I needed a crown, and that is what should have been done, instead of filling the cavity. I went through the process. I have never had this type of work done before. My husband was livid, and felt that because they were at fault, that we should not have to pay for their mistake. My husband accompanied me to the office for the permanent crown in January 2018. Dr. S would not come out of his office to speak to my husband, basically tried to cover for what had happened. My husband was told by the receptionist that there was no bad dentistry involved The temporary crown had been bothering me, which Horizon Dental would not address. I went to another dental office to get this issue fixed. Horizon pretty much held my records hostage, only giving the new office the x-rays for the crown, so, the new office had to do complete scans. It turns out instead of one cavity, I had three, and one of the cavities was next to the molar that was drilled. I did not grow cavities overnight! How was this missed? We are pretty sure Dr. H drilled the wrong tooth. I don't know if something happened when the assistant put the crown on, but after two infections under the crown, I am now looking at an implant! The service in this office was great at one time, otherwise I would not have been a 14-year patient. The fact that they did not try to make this right, and were basically dishonest is the reason that I left. I usually do not write negative reviews, however, this was a huge mistake on their part, and I could not keep silent. This mistake is now costing me a lot of money. I didn't want to give Horizon Dental Center in Omaha, NE one star. They don't deserve even one star. I went to the dentist there on February 24, 2017 to have a tooth pulled out and Dr. Sheldon talked me into getting a partial front tooth even though I had no intention of getting a partial there. They are not equipped doing partials but he was so insistent of making the partial that day before he went on vacation. His assistant tried to make it and she had to do it 4 times. They obviously don't know how to make partials. He said he would charge $150.00. After a week I came back for the fitting and it was horrible. I told the assistant, I don't want it, and I want my $150.00 back. Instead they sent me only $50.00. I will never go back there again. read more

I made an appointment for an Invisalign consult for my daughter who is 12. Made the appointment, gave the receptionist my daughter's date of birth, so they knew how old she is. They called to confirm the appointment and again, made sure they knew it was for a teen. Get there after a half hour drive, waiting a half hour after our scheduled appointment time, and then when we got back into the room, the staff tthen said "We don't do teen invisalign". Poor management. Also, one of their office staff sits with her back facing a window, and you can clearly see the computer screen she is working on! Rude, and don't care if the whole world can see your information. read more

Very bad experience for my whole family. Dr Sheldon screamed an my wife because she gagged. Sheldon cracked my wife tooth charged for breaking it, then charged for a crown. My sons and my fillings fell out in less than a year. The said we had to pay again Big deal is we now go to apple have the same insurance but never have all the extra charges we had there. I would NOT go there ever. It would be different if it was one instance I gave them 3 chances to make it right, they didn't. Worst experience... I was treated like scumbag. I needed a wisdom tooth removed and from the start they were "sketchy" about it. I dont know why and can't explain the vibe but it was one of discomfort and rudeness and stand-offness. They messed up my extraction and I had to see another office to have it fixed. Horrible customer service. I had tried to make an appointment, and when I did they cancelled on me...twice. The second time they failed to tell me and I showed up at 7 AM. The lady at the desk told me that she left messages on my phone, but I never once received a missed call or missed message. DO NOT GO HERE. This dentist is absolutely horrific to say the least. First, they try to tell you that you need root canals, extra fillings etc., when in reality you don't. This place does not care about their patients at all. All they care about is your money! The female reciptionist with the blonde hair to her shoulders is a royal B. She lies to you and tells you that "legally they cannot bill", when it's obvious that is not true. They try to make you think that you need all of these extra fillings and work done, so they can give you a $1200 bill and expect you to pay it in FULL at the time of the appointment. Besides that, they are so rude and nasty about it, and treat you like crap when you can't pay it in full at the time. They have gone to the point of canceling your remaining mandatory appointments like a painful tooth that desperately needs a filling, until you pay them all the money they demand! This business is a complete JOKE and they don't care about their patients at all! Not only that, but the work they do is so poorly done, it's a waste of time and money in the first place. Before you go you won't have any pain, they proceed to tell you that you have 6 cavities, and then are in such a hurry that they don't take time to fill them properly or deaden your mouth before they jab a needle into your gums. The one long, red haired tech is super nasty and rude, and claims that the needle didn't hurt, I was being "dramatic". UH NO! I would know if it hurt??? Just an awful, awful place. Dr. Hanson is a complete joke and has no idea what he is doing! Dr. Sheldon is always in a hurry and every time I leave my mouth is sore for weeks after because he always seems to cut the inside of my mouth and then claim that I bit down on it and caused it myself! Got to say that it was an experience. Every time me and my family had an office visit there were cavities. LOTS of cavities. Apparently this was a good thing because their VERY EXPENSIVE x-ray machine was able to detect cavities that other dentist overlooked. My kids baby teeth had mutlipe cavities, my wife had cavities, my teen had cavities. We all had dozens of cavities that no other dentist could find. read more
