However, I am so grateful for a specific Caregiver that provides us 8 hours of respite care per week, I am submitting this review now. Please note that my 5 Star Review is based solely on the integrity, abilities and performance of a specific person that is employed by Home-Instead. Leslie B. has uplifted our lives and demonstrated consistency. She is truly passionate about her position as a Caregiver. A little of our background... Last year, my adopted Pop, Mr. Bill, was hospitalized and in rehabilitation for several weeks prior to being released to come home. It has been my primary objective to see that he may remain home, for as long as possible, as long as his doctors and therapists feel he is safe, content and still able to experience some independence. So .... I scrambled to find a Caregiver(s) to assist us at home upon Mr. Bill's arrival on August 10, 2018. I have extensive background as a CNA in Rehabilitative Nursing. I am familiar with industry and what was needed immediately in our home. I am grateful for Leslie's dedication and flexibility as Mr. Bill is physically healthy with short-term memory challenges. She is intuitive and has made a positive impact on both of our lives.

After a heart attack and stroke, my father requires 24/7 care and my elderly mother and myself cannot provide care round the clock. There were two young (20 y.o.?) ladies in the office. As I was explaining our situation, they asked some questions about what we needed. I told them a cg would need to do laundry, vacuuming, and light meal prep for my father. They immediately said, "well, our cgs will only do that for the client. If your mother needs help, you'll have to hire two cgs." I get that cgs are not maids or cooks, but light housework and meal prep is part of their job description with *every* agency. I wasn't asking them to care for my mother--who was able to get around by herself at the time. The staffers also told me that cgs would prepare meals only for my father, empty only his trash, etc. We're not asking them to mow the lawn, wash windows, do laundry for a family of 4, etc. But to say that a cg will not empty the trash in the kitchen bec my mother contributes some of it--well, that's utterly ridiculous. No way are we hiring 2 cgs and paying $16-20/hr each just for someone to add an extra egg to an omelette or empty a kitchen trash can every other day. In our experience with other agencies, most (and any GOOD cg) IS willing to throw a load of laundry in the dryer regardless of who it belongs to. There are only 2 ppl living at the house. When I was explaining my father's medical condition, I mentioned that he dozes on and off throughout the day. One of the young ladies was completely incredulous. "you mean, ALL DAY? He takes naps ALL DAY?" Um, yeah. Clearly she had no experience with 80-something, bedridden people, which is pathetic in her line of work. The other staffer did speak up and mentioned that yes, her grandmother did that. But young lady #1 was still in disbelief. How disconnected can you be from your client base?! After 10 min or so of discussion, it was obvious that Apex did not want us as a client. I was dismissed using the excuse that Apex doesn't really have cgs in the Flagler Beach area. Funny, bec I told them when I first came in that we were looking for help in the FB area, and that wasn't a problem then. Apex doesn't have customer service, and basically no real interest in furnishing caregivers. We found another local agency and have had some of the same cgs for a year now. Don't waste your time with Apex.

I started out as a home health aide, Colleen the owner has ALWAYS been encouraging to her employees to better themselves, so much so that she convinced me I could become a CNA, so I took the necessary classes and tested with the state, and became a CNA, to which Colleen said, " now it's time for you to become an RN! " . She always, always has her employees safety and well being in mind. I found my calling and I am lucky/ blessed enough to find a company to work for that I love. I strongly encourage anyone looking for a GOOD job, to come to Onyx. We have MANY employees who are amazing to work with. We are a true "family" in every sense of the word.

We had an agency for a couple of years that was absolutely horrid! I knew they were awful, but kept hoping they'd improve. Finally we had enough and I happened upon Onyx. I can not express how thankful I am! This agency is all I had hoped for and more. The owner is a wonderful lady with excellent credentials. Unlike the last agency we had, she puts her caregivers through up to date training, and they are all so reliable and professional. When I call I'm treated with respect, so unlike the last agency. They were always unpleasant and hurried. They are nurses at Onyx, and their experience in the field certainly shows Her aide has been outstanding, and works extremely hard to help my mom. The last agency all the aides wanted was to be taken to a restaurant or watch television. I have been desperately hoping for a little help with my mom, and Onyx has provided more than a little, they are life savers!!!

They take the time to meet with the patient first (and the patient's family or support team if they have one) instead of just sending a caregiver over on the day the service starts. They help determine the needs and care of the patient ahead of time. They discuss care preferences and scenarios, touring your home with you to locate essentials for cooking, laundry, cleaning, bathing, medical needs, and pet care. On the first day of service, they accompany the caregiver to review item locations, ensuring minimal disturbance to the patient post-surgery. I thought that strategy was brilliant and thoughtful. It hadn't even crossed my mind, but I'm so glad it was on theirs! Knowing and then meeting the patient's needs is their top priority. They're perfect if you don't have a reliable support system in town, or your loved ones' schedules can't accommodate all or some of your needs. If procedures or surgery is required they'll take you to the hospital or doctor's office and be the point of contact for your release, similar to a family member, and bring you home, settle you in and stay with and care for you for your allotted time. They'll even run errands, buy groceries and prepare meals for you. Their on-staff registered nurse visits your home if a medical concern arises, assessing whether it's normal or requires follow-up with your medical provider, and this service is integrated into your care plan based on need. They also offer flexible care scheduling to accommodate varying daily requirements, which is a rarity in the industry. Whether you just need a little in-home assistance, or you need lots of care after a procedure or event, you can't go wrong with "Complete Care at Home. They are so genuinely thoughtful, sweet and friendly and endeavor to keep the comfort, needs and care of the patient first. It doesn't even feel like you're doing business with a business. I highly recommend them!
