I thought I wanted sushi until I pulled up to Hop Shing in Fleming Island. Their food selection is amazing. Their customer service is above standard. When you walk in the small restaurant, you are greeted with a very cheerful "hello" and an authentic smile. With such a very inviting atmosphere, one can't help but feel the positive vibes. Prices are comparable to other places, but the inviting personality at the counter is unmatched. While I have ordered almost their entire menu over the years, I enjoy their fried chicken wings, Dragon Phoenix, and mixed vegetables with shrimp. Their servings are very generous. I was really looking forward to Beef Chow Foon for dinner. When I asked if they served it, I was told they call it Mei Fun. Far from what I was expecting. I wanted the thick, wide, beefy noodles with brown sauce. When I got hope and opened my meal, it was angel hair pasta with a light, clear sauce. Not at all what I wanted. If I knew this is what she was selling me as Chow Foon, I would have ordered something else and this review would be totally different. Sorry Hop Shing, but you misled me. Thought it was time to try a new Chinese place since I'm pretty picky and been ordering at the same place for years. My daughter said this one was good as she ate here all the time so thought I would give a try. I ordered the chicken LoMein with no vegetables and it was pretty tasty.. not dry. Also had the chicken on a Stick. got 4 of them for 5 bucks . They were okay..needed some sauce maybe.. I ended with sweet-and-sour chicken with rice and it was consistent. I would feel okay with ordering from here again and they were pretty busy so that's a good sign. read more

I was just looking for something quick for lunch and a coworker suggested Chinese. We stopped in here on a whim (it was nearby). The employees were friendly and the food was good (not spectacular but definitely on par with most places). The value for the money was extremely fair and I would come back. I ate there today at around 12:45pm. I was one of only two customer in the restaurant. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice lunch plate and a small order of vegetable lomein. The chicken was dry and tough. The lomein was so salty I couldn't eat it and the rice was undercooked and almost crunchy. The whole meal was terrible. I have lived in the area for 12 years and I have been a Hop Shing customer regularly over that time. They used to be one of the best Asian restaurants we had on the island. I have noticed a decline in their quality over the past couple of years but have continued to give them chances. Today was the worst experience though, so I guess I am done with them. It's really too bad. I'd like to add that their dining room was very hot and uncomfortable for dining in. It is also very aged and run down in appearance. read more

Worse Chinese food I've ever had! The food stunk up the car and the house with very old fried oil smell! Had teriyaki chicken that didn't have much of a flavor except old fried oil and the rice wasn't any better. I stopped eating it after two bites and ate my leftover soup in the refrigerator. I've both picked up my meal and had it delivered. I like that they have delivery. I've ordered their steamed dumplings and sesame chicken. The dumplings are delicious. You get 8 per order. I think they are filled with pork. The sesame chicken is good. I like sesame chicken with less sauce as it can tend to be too sweet. The chicken was cooked well and quite tender. TIP: Don't rely on Apple Maps to find this place. It's not really on Hwy 17. It's in the Publix plaza on Hwy 220. read more

I have been working out in Fleming Island the past few months and this was a great place to stop in at. Right in the heart of shopping area and fantastic food. I base my opinion of Chinese restaurants off of their Lo Mein and this one does it right. You can not ask for much better. Apparently the only vegetable they have is onion. A grand total of 5 shrimp in the hot and spicy shrimp combo, along with a full cup of diced onion and weird flavorless red sauce. Service is not great anymore either: the last time we visited we got home and realized we were missing some items, we called and they were basically like "oh well."
