Got a bunch of chocolate bars (milk, dark and raspberry) and a selection of their pralines. Even though very busy, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Prices are very fair. The chocolate bars were quite good. But maybe not exactly our style. Or maybe I'm biased because I'm Swiss :D But the pralines were divine! Pieces of art. Tasted as amazing as they looked. Really up there with the very best ones we've had yet. All kinds of ingredients and fillings. Just amazingly tasty. Surely we'll be back for more whenever we're back in York.

One family had a little girl who was probably 4 years old and she thoroughly enjoyed the entire tour. Our guide was fantastic from the beginning to the end. She was engaging, funny, and knowledgeable. The tour is interesting while giving you historical information about chocolate coming to England, the first chocolate families, as well as giving you a few tastes along the way. At the end you get to make your own white chocolate lollipop to take home. You also get to watch the chocolate kitchen make some chocolates and tested those as well. Upon walking in you encounter a whimsical ground floor receiving area. The actual lobby is on a higher floor. The check-in itself was swift and the team was very professional. We were early and they were able to stow away our luggage while we explored the city for a few hours. We booked the Inner Sanctum Suite which is a windowless room that has a video wall (they call it a Wonderwall) that subs as a view. The neat thing is you can change the video to simulate a view of a London, New York or Paris skyline. So cool! The room is elegantly appointed and had a very dark, sophisticated vibe to it. In addition to the Wonderwall, they also had a great sound system wired in that had Classical, Opera, Love Songs or 80's New Wave to choose from- how perfect! There were also so many special touches- local milk in the fridge, pink pig shaped iced cookies and a cheeky gossip rag that gave insights into the goings on at the hotel. There is so much care and imagination that goes into this property! This suite was perfect for a calm night's rest. My only regret is that we only spent one night in Manchester. I would love to stay at this hotel again. Everything about it was charming and special- and the location was excellent. 5 stars all the way for Hotel Gotham!

I booked Hotel Gotham for a night for my bf's 30th and we checked in early enough (with a strangely…read morerobotic receptionist!) to have some time to enjoy the outdoor terrace of the 7th floor bar in daylight. The view is not as good as Manchester House but it's fun to be in amongst all the grand old buildings at the heart of the city centre. Rugs are provided and the staff appeared to be trained to come and sit with you to discuss each drinks order, which is useful if you're hesitating about the large cocktail menu. I had the Corpse Reviver No 2, a great suggestion from the bartender having heard my preferences which might be my new favourite cocktail - strong, smooth and light, it's the perfect Sunday afternoon drink. Unfortunately there was some confusion over my bf's beer order, so he got the wrong one (a very unfortunate mistake at £5.50...). Overall the drinks are about as expensive as you will get in Manchester, they are more expensive than Manchester House, some sitting at £14 aka London prices. The bill was therefore pretty eye-watering and frankly I probably wouldn't drink there again. That said, if you do stay in the hotel it's worth a visit as it's so quiet and has some nice views. Staying multiple nights I would advise you to check out some of the other bars nearby (Liquorice and Salut, for example, are very close). The room was very comfortable but, as I got a club room through a secret escapes deal, was small and somewhat strangely proportioned with a large empty hallway and then not much room for the bed. If you wanted a room to spend a lot of time lounging in, I would go for the next rate up at least. I did get a very good night's sleep though and did not notice any noise in the morning (Monday). The restaurant, where we had breakfast, is unusual in Manchester for being high up (6th floor) and has windows all the way around it letting in a lot of light and cool view of an angel statue. Breakfast was good, with high quality ingredients in the fry up and my bf's kippers were fantastic. Overall although this hotel is classed as a 5* I think going for the club rooms you may feel more like it's a very nice 4*. Value wise, that isn't bad, until you factor in the very expensive drinks.

And the meat is all locally sourced. The chicken with cream sauce... unlike anything I've ever had! I ordered that dish ever single night! And my boyfriend who loves pork belly said their crispy pork belly was heart-stoppingly delicious. Luckily we live so far away from Haworth or else we would come here for every meal and definitely go broke! Even though their entrees are definitely fairly priced, averaging about £9-11. The classic british food here is just incomparable to anywhere else we've eaten. We stayed here while there was a deal happening for accommodations, and it was £35 a night. I have yet to find such a great price for Inns around England, for such an amazing quality place! The room was nice and large, and had its own fireplace. I felt like I was literally living in a Bronte novel. We had a wonderful view of the road and the countryside, and even left little biscuits for us! The experience was unreal! There is also a bar downstairs and the prices run a little higher than the average bar, but there are more than enough pubs in Haworth city center and the Wuthering Heights pub just 10 minutes walking distance to get your fill of alcohol. But the food and hospitality is unbeatable! A full english breakfast is also included every morning of the stay, and everything was DELICIOUS. this was basically a dream countryside vacation! The Old Silent is located about 1.5 miles away from city center in the middle of the countryside, so you really do feel like you have completely escaped from the mass majority of civilization. It is an easy access to the Bronte hiking trail, as well as a short bus ride (if you don't feel like walking) to the Bronte Parish in Haworth center. The Old Silent Inn is purported to be haunted, and if you ask the staff they will give you more information about it. There are also plaques all along the walls that give little details of sightings. However, during our entire 3 night stay I happened to escape anything paranormal even though I was slightly spooked the entire time! This place is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and I will definitely be coming back here to stay and EAT again and again!!!

First of all let me say that this is most likely to be the best hotel in the region of Bridlington…read moreand Filey. It has a progressive attitude and is a welcome departure from the typically OAP centric area. I really do want this place to strive on for future awards and not rest on those past achievements in the eighties. We stayed in the standard room with breakfast on a three nights for two deal. The hotel, restaurant buildings surround a gravel courtyard for parking and there are plenty of spaces. The first impressions are good and the hotel has an air of class about it. The reception is not always manned but with a slow yet friendly start we were set. Our standard room was described at reception as 'spacious', it was most certainly not. However upon comparison with the other rooms on the fire plan it was one of the larger rooms. The size is adequate if you are tidy and organised. The bed although small was indeed comfortable and was the best part of the room. An attempt to keep the design contemporary and clean had been made but there was a lack of attention to detail. The windows locks were missing, the bathroom lamp flickered if one sat on the toilet and the bedside lamps were fitted with old fashioned non-energy saving bulbs, one of which was broken upon arrival. Faults were reported and remedial action was undertaken that very day. The consistency of this service was undermined by the fact our room was not serviced at all for one of the three days, I can only assume the cleaner has Sunday off. The breakfast is delivered in an elegant surrounding and your place is already set for you. The menu seems at first limiting especially on the continental side of things. The service is excellent and our requests were catered for and remembered day in day out. The grilled breakfast is generous and if a high standard. The adjoining restaurant 'Azzurro' is a well laid out and design conscious. Service was prompt, friendly but not over fussy. All of the starters bar the Gamberoni were a little overly constructed. The typical quantity explosion occurred, the stuffed Romano pepper starter at Pizza Hut could teach them a lot. Simple flavours, small plate, done well for the price. Instead my stuffed pepper (Pepperoni Ripieni) was drowned beneath a bowl of melted cheese and filled with a mundanity usually reserved for little chef. On to better things however. The (Filletto Sfizio) Prime Fillet, Mushroom, Truffle, Dolce Latte & Cream was superb and cooked to order very well although a little more medium than rare. This dish although the most expensive deserves your attention. Don't let the pizza oven steer you away from this. The pizzas that were ordered although crispy and authentic on the outer base were overloaded with topping which in turn made for a moist inner base. To conclude, the hotel and the Azzurro are laid before you as a potential masterpiece and I am sure that on occasion all the notes are hit but for me, the admission of room servicing for one day supplement to the repair state of the accommodation let's that potential remain exactly that.
