Food critique eh ?
Hootie's needs a big kick up the backside if it is going to be any sort of success.
On a recent visit with a party of approximately 16 I was alarmed , dissappointed, shocked, bamboozled......honestly I dont know what I was. I think the restaurant has the same problem.
Question....Where can you go to find a Tex Mex restaurant and order 16 or so main courses and find that not one of them contained any fresh Chilli Pepper of any description. No fresh herbs or salad garnish etc. Hooties at Colne is the easy answer. All of the meals consisted of stir fry meat covered in bottled chilli sauce for heat and perhaps powdered chilli or tex mex seasoning at best to try and add some flavour. Those who opted for Steak were even more dissappointed. One diner stating that it was perhaps the worst piece of steak she had ever tried. Most of our party just shrugged their shoulders put it down to experience and just plainly stated that they would not go back.
Wine was of a very poor/cheap standard but not particularly cheap to buy. You would get better at a supermarket trying their own label brand at around £3 a bot. A promotion on Corona beer was the only plus of the night at 5 bots in a bucket of ice for £6. Free Nachos and dips as a complimentary sweetener to a disastrous dining experience just isn't the way forward. Train your staff how to cook, how to greet, how to serve and when to start doing it.
I do hope they get there act together soon as the place looks like it has real potential.
