Gym

Iconic historic gym that has been preserved as the treasure it is. Great times reliving the movie and putting up shots . Highly recommend!

Took my two teenage daughters to the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown on a field trip. First, Knightstown is really in the middle of nowhere, so if you go and are confused at the location - you probably have it right! It's just in a tiny little town. The gym was where the movie Hoosiers was filmed. Everyone in Indiana knows that movie, right? Built in 1921, it holds all of its original character and charm, they even have one of the original "buckets" that was used for basketball still in the gym. The tour is free and only about 30 minutes long. Check hours in advance, they usually open at noon to the public. It's just a small town stop, but a dive into the history of basketball. The kids got to play ball in the gym afterward while I sat in the old school bleachers and observed this historical structure. Ball games are still held here! The tour includes a glimpse of the locker rooms, which are something that takes you back (not at all like a locker room you would expect to see!).

Outside of main building.

Review #400, wow. Maybe anti-climatic with this review but who cares? What else can I add to the other reviews that hasn't been said? For those that aren't reading other reviews, this is where they filmed the movie Hoosiers. It is now part museum, part basketball mecca, and nostalgia dialed up to 11. If you are a basketball fan and like the movie, you will get it. Great tour guides, make sure you ask for the tour. Shoot some baskets on the old hardwood. And by all means don't miss the locker room (it felt like Gene Hackman was going to walk down the stairs at any moment). Neat change of place diversion on Knightstown.

We are really happy we stopped through to visit the Hoosier Gym. It was a good break on our long road trip and totally worth the detour. There was one volunteer there and we were the only visitors at the time so we got an in-depth, private tour. He told us all about the gym, the history, what was new, what was old, what was different from the movie and we went into the locker rooms too for a nice little history lesson of the location itself and the movie. We had a great time revisiting the location from a movie we once saw long ago and even enjoyed shooting some hoops with the basketballs provided and recreated photos as seen in the movie. It was a pleasant visit!

Yep...had to take a "I was here" photo at this place for my kids... Going to bring them next time!

Yes! Yes! And Yes! Any fan of basketball and the movie Hoosiers should visit the Hoosier Gym once in their lives. I am both. Today I had the joy of reliving my youth and actually playing in the gym that is now so legendary. I hadn't watched the movie since watching it with my high school team; but, after being there, I watched it and it was as though I was watching it for the first time (yes, age made an impact, lol, especially in retrospect of appreciating the history). They actually allow people, during open gym time, to just come and shoot or play. And, it was free! Luckily, our timing was right though, because there was a girl's basketball practice that started as we were leaving. So, be sure of the hours and events before you show up. On top of the gym itself, there is small museum tribute to the Hickory team, the movie, and Basketball. You can purchase Hickory memorabilia, Hoosiers photos, postcards and t-shirts. It was wonderful to see little kids and parents playing together... FYI They are a bit under construction, but I'm posting the website link for your ease to check open gym schedule. http://www.thehoosiergym.com/

I rarely review attractions (I generally keep it to food), but this place is special. In business in Indianapolis for a couple months, I made a resolution to make the 30-40minute drive out to Knightstown to visit Hoosier Gym. One of the best decisions I've ever made. The night before, I made my girlfriend watch Hoosiers and, of course, she loved it. So walking in to Hoosier Gym today and seeing the vintage high school gymnasium where they filmed the movie was beyond special. Upon entering, we walked through the lobby, first glimpsed the court, and we both lit up. It was awesome. I made my way straight to the back of the gym in search of the locker room. Down a staircase, there it was. Some great scenes from the movie were filmed in that tiny locker room. For atmospheric effect, a pair of old Chuck Taylor's hung from a hook on the wall and an old chalkboard had a play diagramed on it revealing the 'Picket Fence' accompanied by the quote, "Don't get caught watching the paint dry!" Up we went and onto the court. The extremely friendly gentleman working there threw a basketball our way, encouraged us to shoot, and answered any questions we might have. We shot around for a solid hour prior to leaving with some Jimmy Chitwood 'Hickory' practice jerseys and a book on the making of the movie. It was awesome. If anybody is a fan of this movie in ANY way, this is beyond a five-star experience.

My family actually held part of our family reunion here, which was awesome! What's more Hoosier than playing basketball at a family reunion in one of the most iconic basketball places in Indiana (Nothing!). Walking in you could really feel the history. I loved being able to look back at the different pictures and items that were in the museum area, these were neat! Playing basketball on this iconic floor was also an awesome experience!

I can't believe this gym isn't on Yelp! This is a really great facility that feels like a "big…read morecity" gym in our little Richmond! It's in a remodeled building and has abundant equipment, weights and an unbelievable class schedule (spinning, Zumba, pilates, etc..) that has to be seen to be believed. Unlike some other gyms in this area, the fitness classes are included with your monthly membership fee. The gym is always clean, the staff and instructors always friendly. It also has 24 hour access if you purchase a keycard for ten dollars. Worth it if you're a late-night or early-morning type of fitness freak. Also key is the childcare option which makes it so easy to be able to work out - no more excuses! Childcare is a $4 per visit (for 3 hours) or a flat $30 per month which is totally worth it if you're going 3-4 times a week. Not ready to join? First visit is free and there is also a pay-per-visit option which is a very affordable $5 per visit. Overall the best fitness facility in all of Richmond, they have an off-site swimming pool that I haven't been to so I can't comment on that. Also connected to the Cycling Fitness Warehouse which has bikes and biking gear. You have to check out their webpage to really appreciate this facilty.

Family Fitness Works had been a great find for us originally. especially the now closed REC Plex…read more we went there on weekend for open rec a lot in the winter. and soon joined recreational gymnastics which turned into team gymnastics once my duaghter progressed. the staff was nice helpful and supportive at the gymnastics center. they even checked on her when she missed especially coach Justine. they were aware of all the kids health issues and other activities. the kids had fun. then in 2020-2021 a new head coach took over. and she was not good for the kids. several parent complained to one of the co-owners and nothing was ever done. ultimately the REC Plex shut down . they say due to COVID and that may be part of it. but the gym and the head coach from the 202-2021 season were investigated by USAG for abuse. Just wanted the public aware that some business owners are all about money and not community or the people in it.
