Business is owned by Chris Halley and my experience with them was positive. My brother had purchased a ProDunk hoop (Diamond) about 8 years ago in Houston (not rusted out and even has original net) and it is still in great shape so I decided to look for a local ProDunk hoop distributor.
After being in the market I spoke with a number of friends and neighbors who gave positive reviews of Hoops Austin so we took the plunge. I called them for some guidance and was told that the Diamond is overkill for a driveway install and the highest end adjustable hoop they'd recommend is the ProDunk Platinum. We have a big cement pad so I went with the Platinum.
Many people may consider doing their own install. The Hoops Austin installer took about 1 hour to dig the hole, mix and pour the cement. He hit rock about one foot down. Apparently they recommend a two feet deep hole, but the installer had to build the cement up about 8" to reach the level of our driveway so he called it good at one foot. (I have a friend who spent 12 hours jack hammering through rock to get to the two foot mark on a DIY install.) The anchors plate was reasonably level, but not perfect. The hoop post installs onto four big leveling screws so there's no need for the anchor plate to be perfect. The hoop also comes with slotted screw holes so you can rotate the hoop left or right to make sure it's straight on.
The hoop install happened a couple of days later and I watched the whole thing. The installers do about 3 or 4 installs a day, so they're not messing around. Took them over an hour (just because they mixed up the install kit with a Gold goal), but the byproduct is great. I measured the hoop height against the height gauge they installed and it was a perfect 10ft. Post and rim are level, too. I've lowered and dunked on it a good deal and everything is super solid. The main thing I noticed was the post being beefier than similarly price big box store hoops. The feel of the rim is great and accurately unforgiving. Nice practicing on a hoop that is similar to a gym feel.
Hoops Austin was great to deal with. Didn't ask for any payment until everything was installed to my satisfaction and even beat their originally quoted installation schedule by a day (being a few days before Christmas this was a nice surprise). read more
