My conditions are bulging discs, herniated disc, and spinal stenosis. On 08/31/2007 I went to this clinic. At the time the pain was really bad, radiating from my neck, down my arm, and down my shoulder blade that I was sleeping while sitting up. I could not lay back. After 2 weeks of treatment I was laying and sleeping in my bed. Treatments continued to improve my issue and by 09/2008 I was pain free. On 10/31/2017 I went to this clinic again. This time I could not walk more than 500 feet without having to sit down. The radiating sciatic pain was too much to continue. A bad shoulder, Scoliosis, neck pain and occasional lower back pain were the main problems. When my husband and I met with Dr. Graham for my initial consult, we were very impressed with his knowledge, how professional he was and how he was eager to help. He also has a sense of humor, which we loved. He also will tell you whether he thinks he can help you or not. We were impressed with his honesty. It also meant a lot to me that Dr. Graham was willing to let my husband in on the consult and other follow-up consults and improvements. This helps my husband to understand what the issues are and the ability to see the improvements going forward. My husband is very supportive and this is important to me. My initial X-Rays, showed that my neck was misaligned and that my scoliosis was quite prominent. My spine had a definite U in it. Yes, it was shocking for me to see that. After the first month of adjustments, my husband noticed that when I now walk or stand, my shoulders are even. He said that, one shoulder used to be higher than the other. I had no idea that was the case. Wow! It was nice to hear that some improvement had begun. Dr. Graham took another set of X-Rays about 4 months later. This set of X-Rays showed big improvements in both my neck and spine. My spine was what wowed me. It was more or a C curve versus a U curve. I understand that my spine may not ever be perfectly straight again, but any improvements are good. However, it may continue to improve over time. Not in my wildest dreams did I think my spine could be improved, especially at my age. What's not to like? My shoulder is a lot better and flexible. My lower back pain is just about gone. I use my neck block every day to speed up the alignment in my neck. Even when we are on vacation. I have been getting my adjustments religiously. I have been to other Chiropractors in the past. She respected my wishes, and we never had a problem. When Dr. Mary moved out of state, I moved over to Dr. Chris, who had a good reputation. Someone in my family had gone to him for years and had nothing but positives to say. My first two or three times were fine. I had also explained to him my spinal surgery and my request for no neck adjustments. I then noticed a distinct lack of professionalism the next time or two, as he primarily complained about his workload and how long his days were. Odd, but fine. Unfortunately the last straw for me was my last appointment 6 weeks ago. He performed a neck adjustment without asking. I immediately felt pain in the same spot I had my surgery and was very concerned. I hoped it would reside later, but it did not. I called back the office and came back in for x-rays. He said that he had forgotten about my medical record and request. Thankfully, the hardware was not damaged. I discussed options and what might be wrong with Dr. Chris, who apologized. I then requested he send me the notes on what we had discussed, to which he responded that there would be no way he would remember what we discussed later in the day and he was very busy with patients. I said I understood his position, but requested he understand mine that if he would not recall, how would I as a layperson recall his descriptions and medical terminology? He then jotted some notes and said he would follow-up. I waited a couple of days and called the office as he had not followed up as he said. When I still did not receive an email a couple of days later, I called again, after which Dr. Chris did email me with a summary of notes as we had discussed. The pain has persisted which has prompted a return to my surgeon's office to confirm no further damage was done. While I understand people make mistakes, forgetting your patient had significant spinal surgery and specific request to avoid this area is unacceptable. I am also concerned about the level of unprofessionalism surrounding these experiences. Further, as I had not had a day of pain since my surgery until this mistake, I am certain I will not return.
