One of the first tings we did in Limerick was search for a good place for dessert and a snack. Hook and Ladder is right across the bridge from The Strand Hotel, and while we were there, the front of the building was under construction (August 2023), so it couldve easily been missed. We took our chances, and seated us at a window seat. The decorations were eclectic and fun and it was a relaxing atmosphere. We ordered the bbq fries, which were very good - but think of Korean bbq with chipotle mayo. The also offered "cloudy lemonade" which was a whole jug for only$3 euros, it too was really delicious. We specifically chose the place for dessert and they had a large variety. We opted for the salted caramel chocolate cake and it was absolutely delicious. Rich but the milk chocolate cake kept it balanced... we ate the entire thing! read more

On our way from Galway to Killarney, our train stopped in Limerick so we decided to get lunch. The original place I wanted to go to was closed, so we wandered a bit before coming upon Hook & Ladder. They were able to accommodate our luggage and sit us down with no problems. The place is honestly really cute! The smoothie and vegan scone I got were delicious, but my vegan brekkie was just okay. My partner had a burger which they also found okay. However, despite that, I am giving the place 4 stars for the service and ambiance overall. I would go back for a smoothie and scone though, mmm! read more

This is a really cute spot to have breakfast/brunch. We stopped in on our way to the Cliffs of Mohr for breakfast. The service was very good as was the food. I ordered the mini farmers breakfast. My husband ordered the full. We were in search of a traditional Irish breakfast and this did not disappoint. His came with the rosemary potatoes, which were AMAZING! The food was excellent! The staff was incredibly friendly and we were seated almost right away even though they were busy. The restrooms were clean, tidy, and private. They had a pastry counter, and though we didn't get anything, it all looked delicious. The service is still a little slow at lunch time (except for the soup - got that in a GD flash!) but I definitely have to raise my Hook and Ladder review to a 5 star-er. The breakfast menu is by far the most extensive and interesting in Limerick, it's only a pity it's not served over brunch hour (but understandably, the crowds for such an event would be too much to handle). But if you're not TOO hungover and you can make it in before midday, it's well worth it. The breakfast bap is just incredible, "hits the spot" doesn't even come close. My favourite though is to get the dippy eggs and soldiers and also get the granola - both come in at a fiver each which I think is so reasonable. the coffee is delicious and the scones and cakes to go along are delish too. I've also been another couple of times for weekend lunch and enjoyed a lot. read more

It was our first time in Limerick and this cafe seemed like a nice place for lunch. The building is super cute and is situated on a round corner so there are large windows that look out to the street, the interior decor was fun and colorful as well. We ordered Buddha bowls and all of the ingredients were fresh and plenty. More than anything, the staff was very nice and made us feel more than welcome. I've been to Hook & Ladder on Henry street a few times and it's been really good every time. The staff are friendly, professional and the food is excellent. Take away bakery food is really good too, amazing bakery. Seating can be a bit difficult because it gets very busy and you might have to queue for 10 minutes some times, they should create a waiting area with bucket seats like Neon have done in Dublin. The only other complaint I have is that I was sitting upstairs and there's an open kitchen so came out smelling like fried food and that's never good. They need to invest in ventilation for the kitchen to prevent this unwanted odour following customers out the door. read more

Introduced to this elegant coffee/tea house and restaurant by cousins I was visiting who are regulars. I can see why. I was early so the manager seated me downstairs, took my name and said he would show the party of 2 to my table. Interesting menu with lots of local produce showcased and lots of healthy options at a reasonable price. I had a cappuccino with a cinnamon scone. Elegant and home made. Limerick always had a great cafe culture -remember talking and drinking tea in Java's til 4am in the 90s, or wondering if your tuna melt was ever going to arrive at lunchtime in Puccini's? -and Hook & Ladder is a fantastic addition to this. Pastries, hot food, and hearty breakfasts are complemented by quirky, stylish decor which is also available to buy. Apparently it's also a cookery school. I just love the relaxing environment, friendly service and above all the noms. There was a queue out the door on my last Saturday afternoon visit. There are good reasons for this. read more
