Before I blather on let me say head out here and get the $5 shrimp po boy special to try them out. It's not on a bun.. it's a 6(or more) inch loaf that's a little skinny but that made it perfect for eating and driving. The person claiming touristy prices must be from out of town or something. You get what you pay for. We have inflation dood! Lay off the "stuff" brah. You trippin! So, I was headed home to Reefer Ridge in almost Kennah, brah! after an appointment with a client. I was talking to my friend Jeff Hewitt, former Riverside County supervisor that served on the LNC with me. He is the guy who knows who the real life John Galt is but I ain't tellin. I then saw this sign that said $5 Shrimp Sandwich. I told this to Jeff as I was U turning and he agreed that I needed to go back and check that out. It was the new seafood restaurant taking over the old Rally's across from the St Roch Market. My first impression was the place was clean. My next impression was "Oh £¥€k! Where is my wallet!" I then drove to the speaker and they confirmed they could use my Apple wallet. My next impression was it was a pretty extensive menu and it looked good. I ordered the $5 special and decided to get a side of red beans. My next impression was at the window where I noticed they seemed to be Asian. "Eff Yeah!"This got me hopeful because maybe they were Vietnamese and most of my preferred shrimp po boys have been made by people of Vietnamese ethnicity. My Apple Wallet worked! After a very short wait of maybe 3-5 minutes they handed me a bag. I then continued on my way home.. eating my sammich. I had figured it was going to get a bun. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a po boy banh mi style. A little six(or more) inch loaf. I had forgotten to ask for ketchup and hot sauce the way I normally get it but that was ok especially for the first time. My next impression was how perfect the bread was. It was crisp and light and didn't cut my mouth. The shrimp were fresh and good and of a decent size. I could have stood a little more mayo for my taste but once again better for the first impression. I stayed off the interstate as I was eating and talking to Jeff on my headset. I finished the sandwich very pleased. Despite how skinny it was, it took me a while to eat. I moved on to the red beans. First impression here was.. "That's a lotta garlic!" Beans were good. Some meat in them. Not overloaded with rice. Portion size was maybe a little small for $3 So I am sitting here writing this review shocked how few reviews there are already and how poor the ones that are. Don't take our word for it. Go get the 5 dollar special and come make your own. Sorry for the lack of pics. I was driving, eating and talking on a headset. I have the menu in my car so I was grab that and post it. Every time I think about it.. I think I want another one and am considering making the 25 minute trip today, even though it's less that 12 hours later. That's a good sign.

    $6 Special Fish Poboy

After reading the reviews for this place I decided to give them a try and review it myself. I had pretty low expectations to be honest. Went through the drive through and was in and out in about 5 minutes. I drove home before opening the package thinking I'd need to add more dressing or cheese etc. After the 10-15 minute drive to midcity the sandwich was still acceptably warm, crispy, and delicious.. I didn't add anything and was totally happy with it.. My GF thought it was weird that it didn't have tomato, but it had the right amount of lettuce, pickle and mayo for my personal taste. (saw another positive review that said it was light on mayo, I wonder if they saw that and adjusted, because I like a fairly unhealthy amount of mayo on my sandwich's and this was perfect) The bun had a great texture, about an 8 inch sandwich with plenty of fish (catfish) - I really liked the way the fish was cut up and battered, really nicely balanced bites. I was going to give it 4 stars but I couldn't come up with a single improvement that would make it better so they get 5 on this sandwich.. I'll try another menu item next time and update if necessary! (if I can resist getting this sandwich again!)

Lemon pepper bread it I didn't want that I thought it was nake it and chicken look like it's on steroids

I'm pissed. The first time I tried it and it's nasty cajun rice is plain rice no taste, the chicken wings looked make on the picture lemo pepper bread is not good , service good but that not Cajun rice and the need new chicken wings

    FOURTEEN DOLLARS for this

this place is basically a scam, the amount of food you receive looks nothing like what is pictured. paid fourteen dollars for a "basket" and got seven shrimp. You'd be better off going literally anywhere else.

It's a lovely building in a great location, near the French market, Esplanade Ave., and Frenchmen St. The interior is cheerfully painted in bright colors with lots of art and posters on the walls. The bright green interior, contrasted against the red brick exterior, is fun and charming. I ordered my food to go a spicy chic'n sandwich (vegan chicken, vegan cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles) for $14.65, and waited at a table outside. The staff/owner seems a bit disorganized so you may wait a while depending on who's running the show. Case-in-point - the menu on the website is a mess! My food was good, however, and I'd have it again. Not a bargain, considering that it doesn't come with fries. Others report inconsistent quality - get your acts together, guys! I'm also rating 2 Phat Vegans 4.5 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following: * Everything here is vegan. Adopting a plant-based diet is the top thing you can do to mitigate climate change, deforestation, animal cruelty, and global food scarcity (and improve your health!) * Many items seem to be made in house, for example the hot sausage, which I'll try next time. I just found that out from an interview with the owner on YouTube. The website could do a much better job on this selling point. * Black-owned local business that's pretty conscious about the food and drinks that they stock. * Room for improvement: my sandwich came in what appears to be a Styrofoam box. Switch this to compostable cardboard please! Styrofoam is nasty for the planet.

There was one other person at a table and he turned out to be a friend of the guy who was working front of the house. We orderred two items and a blueberry smoothy. The fried ochra was AMAZING, and the sausage po boy which was pretty good but not great. They didn't have the chicken sandwich or the fish sandwich which is what we specifically came in for. Oh well. The table was sticky and there were no napkins in the holders on any of the tables. There was a thin layer of hot sauce in the bottom of hot sauce bottle on our table. We looked around and noticed the same thing on the other tables. We were really looking forward to this resturaunt and what we found was sad disappointing. You can tell it used to be something special, but now it's just dirty and smells like pot.

The Poboy here is to die for!…read more Honestly I was a bit intimidated walking through here alone, going past a rowdy crowd of mainly older white Gen X men to end up in this hole of a wall to order through an even smaller hole in the wall service booth. The ordering experience was a bit gruff and rough around the edges, but from then on, everything went right. First, you can hang out in the bar area at Erin Rose (I swear the crowd was friendlier than they looked) and eat there if there's space. I highly recommend their Paradise Peach, which seems to be from a local brewery. The bright, peach flavor of the lager does well to wash down the sandwich in the summer heat. I went with an order of the Braised Beef Debris Poboy and this is hands down not just the best Poboy I've ever had in my life, but the best beef or steak any sandwich I've ever had in my life! I wolfed it down so quickly and have to say the pickled green bean and banana peppers with that spike of horseradish sauce really sent this Poboy soaring! The braised beef was absolutely perfect and tender, amazingly so! I can get a bit picky about beef because I hate it when it's tough or gristly or has too much fatty parts that won't melt down, but I didn't have a problem with any of that. I'm no butcher, but seemed like they used a good part of the beef of what's already a fairly quality cow (Louisiana Wagyu Beef I recall reading) or maybe it was the whole braising process, but I wish I could have this for days! I'm going to be sad going back to Houston and not being able to eat this, but hopefully it'll still be around and just as amazing next time I'm back in town.
