This was the only such premises in Strathaven for many years and did have a monopoly in the town for many years .It has an extensive menu catering for virtually every type of takeway away curries , pizza kebab burgers hoggies ,munchie boxes etc. I was a regular myself for many years but have moved my custom over the last couple of years to the new kids on the block at Tandoori Cottage and Chillies. The food at the Manzil is generally of a good standard with large portions , pizza`s are a little disappointing as unless you order the 16", you get pre baked bases that are more like white bread than pizza base on 10 and 12" pizzas , but the toppings are plentiful. There is a wide choice of curries all of which are large in portion size and generally come with rice ( unless you go for a Traditional curry eg - dupiaza ,madras ,dansak etc which are cheaper ex rice. If new to Strathaven I would recommend you try all 4 places in town and find the one that suits your palate. I have steered towards the new offerings over the last 2 years and have not been disappointed but many still swear by the Manzil

What a pleasant surprise! I had expected a dirty, greasy place but was very pleased to see that it was exceptionally clean and there was one member of staff who seemed to be engaged in full-time cleaning duties of the restaurant. Our food was basic but very tasty, and there was some nutritional info on a leaflet given to us with the tray which again surprised me as it was nowhere as bad as I had expected - my entire meal had approx 600 calories. They also have a drive-in service which is very popular - we watched dozens of cars passing through while we ate. Although I never thought I'd say it, I would highly recommend stopping off here for a very cheap and cheerful lunch - it's a lot better than I expected!

For me, visiting a McDonald's is never exactly a proud moment. Thing is, McDonald's actually is good for those things and if that's what you're after then there's no shame in that. This branch is especially handy in that it's open 24 hours. It also has a drive-thru attached, although I've never used that facility so I can't properly comment on it. In spite of being a small, drive-thru branch they still do all of the major offers (so if you get one of those vouchers for a big mac and fries for £1.99 then go ahead, they'll accept it) and they do all the standard UK menu items, including the specials as they come and go. Food-wise it's the same as any other McDonald's. They can alter your items if you have any particular requirements and they almost always have a few Big Macs and McChicken Sandwiches ready to go as you walk in. If not, they're still pretty quick. Less popular items, such as specials, salads and deli sandwiches take a bit longer, but I'm pretty sure that's true everywhere. You can expect really long queues around dinner time and long-ish queues at lunch time over the weekends. I've only ever once failed to get a seat, though. Plus, the staff are quick enough and clearing the queue and if there's a wait for fries (or if you've ordered something less popular) they'll tell you to go take a seat and will bring it to you when it's ready. The toilets are kept pretty clean and the staff do a decent job of clearing the tables whenever they get chance. The WiFi is free too, so I could even imagine people working here during quieter hours. One very important thing though - don't get the coffee. It's the worst I've ever tasted. Just don't.
