I scheduled to get a tattoo for each of my daughters (9 & 6 y/o) as a valentines gift. I messaged on IG and got a quick response and appointment. Unfortunately I had to make a lot of changes - day, time, location - and she was super understanding and accommodating. We did the session at my moms house by Ala Moana Shopping center. She explained everything she was doing, the process of how to treat and how it would look after. My mom and me ended up getting tattoos too! I would definitely recommend! Great prices and customer service! PS - my daughters were rock stars when their classmates saw the tattoos

Carolyn of Honolulu Henna is amazing. I fly to O'ahu every 6 to 8 weeks (live part-time) from Los Angeles to be with my mom and to get Carolyn's Jagua artwork on my body! My kids get their Jagua every year they come out with me. She creates her art free hand. I tell her a few elements I want to include then she is free to express herself. Love her.. if yo've always wanted a tattoo but have not quite determined what you want yet.. contact Carolyn! It last between 1-2.5 weeks. It was a month ago I saw Carolyn. I'm on a plane to O'ahu as I type to get another fabulous sleeve. Here are a few of them.

I got a large jengua piece

She was GREAT. Her art is amazing and I enjoyed every minute of our conversation. She went into detail about henna and jengua, care instructions, what to expect while it was drying/ peeling. I really appreciated how specific she was and showed me pictures. These pictures are taken a week after being done (the fish is a bit faded due to pre shave exfoliation& everything shower). Such an easy going person with impressive art skills

Amazing was an understatement for Carolyn! We had her on our last day in Hawaii and we felt so blessed and thankful that we stumbled upon her. She made us feel so at ease and her customer service skills were so great. Moreover, her attention to detail was AMAZING! (I got the forearm tattoo) and she gave me exactly what I wanted. The conversations that came along with it was an amazing added bonus. My husband got the chest and arm tattoo and he told her what he wanted without actual visual representation, afterwards, it completely exceeded our expectations! If you're looking to get henna done, definitely do not pass up on getting it with her. I'd give her 10stars if I could!

I've been getting Carolyn's (Honolulu Henna) beautiful henna for over 6 years. It's amazing how she can listen to want you want and create amazing body art so fast! She even helped me create the design for my permanent half sleeve tattoo which I get compliments on everyday! What makes her even more fun to work with is her super cool personality. If you plan on getting henna, Honolulu Henna is THE BEST IN HONOLULU!

If you're looking for an awesome Henna + Jagua artist in Oahu, check out Honolulu Henna! Carolyn is such a cool, down to earth person and made it such a nice experience. It's easy to make an appointment via her website or messaging her directly if you have questions. She doesn't have a shop currently, but she travels around to meet clients at hotels, etc for the session. I got the sun + moon design and incorporated the Chinese character "明" into it as well (since its in my Chinese name) and I love how it turned out! My friends got a really sick looking turtle and floral + mystical design for theirs. Overall we love how intricate and detailed the designs are and how she was able to captivate and bring our visions to life through her work. She was super helpful as well with explaining how to care for the Jagua and how the process works. Definitely recommend booking your next Henna + Jagua session with Carolyn the next time you're in Oahu

Look at this masterpiece! This is my first experience with Jagua and Carolyn made it such a memorable one. I sent her a rough draft of what I was looking to get, and she made it so much better. I message her through text and she gave me an estimate. So then we finalize an appointment date and met the following day. She is a traveling artist so that's pretty cool. After meeting, we discuss more in detail and finalize a price. During the process, we chatted and she told me some great info on what I should do and should avoid while I'm here. She is a perfectionist and I love all the details she had put in this design. She'll go over the aftercare process pretty throughly, so we know what to expect. The design came out beautiful and not going to lie, I wasn't sitting as still as I should be... but it still looks great! I definitely would come back and have her do more amazing designs on me. If you're here in the area, y'all should check her out for reals!

Love my henna tattoo! Carolyn was very friendly, social, and a great artist. She informed us well on the overall process. Easy to book and great communication. If you're thinking of getting a temp tattoo, the jagua (black blue ink) is a great idea. Highly recommend it :))

I love the Hena Tattoo Carlolyn did, I let her design it for me and couldn't be happier with it. It was a great Birthday gift.

Carolyn was amazing to work with, she is so talented and through. She walked me through the process, and I let her design my tattoo and it exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for a temporary tattoo look no further! She is extremely easy to work with meeting you at your hotel, which is so convenient while on vacation. She will also be doing traditional tattoo's soon so keep that in mind while you consider making your temporary tattoo a permanent one :).

Later that evening (5hours later and no water) peeling and easily comes off. Notice the lighter image under the dry henna.

Carolyn is so talented and sweet. She is quick with her designs and amazing art is transformed before your eyes. (Not pictured is Maui hook) our son was so happy to have it placed in his leg. She texted me after I requested an appt and quote. She meet us at our hotel, so our family of 5 took turns, we were able to nap and have brunch. Please remember no water activities the day you get the henna placed AND it takes 24 hours for it to be dark and beautiful. Our henna tatoos lasted almost 2 weeks. My tatoo created a lovely reverse print from where it tanned on my upper arm so now I have a beautiful reminder of our trip.

"I'm wearing short sleeves, I don't want to expose my tattoos."…read more-Jerry Seinfeld Well now I DO wanna wear short sleeves to let my new honu peek out a bit! Been wanting to get a honu ink'd to remind me of where I came from... where home really is. Everytime I go back, I run out of time or just didn't want to give up the beach day. This time the whole fam was IN... when I explained my design concept, both my wife and daughter wanted their own version, still honu themed. da Scene: Determined to get this done done during the 16 day visit back home on Oahu, I did my research early and narrowed it down to 3 spots initially. After some dm's, email exchanges and finally some voice calls, it was Lai @ Tattoo Hawaii who I connected with most, so we scheduled an in-person consult and then our sessions, with 2 days left on our trip - only lost 1 beach day (it was a perfect one too). da Service: Every contact before our session was courteous and replied to promptly. I did have to be insistent on Lai doing our work, even if it meant spanning multiple days. His work on social media and Yelp! most connected with me. At our consult he explained how he would approach my design concept and adapt it to my wife and daughter. Lai was confident he could get us all done in one afternoon/evening session. The shop is tucked away on the 2nd floor of a little building on the corner of Kapiolani and Piikoi... parking is a challenge, so arrive early to wait out a spot. The shop is comfortable and can accommodate 3-4 artists working, with friends looking on in support. da Work: Kai was up 1st as hers would be the least complicated. She went with 3 petroglyph style honu, each about 3.5" diameter, ink'd fairly heavy - vertically on her upper arm, pretty classic design. She has several tattoos already and was surprised that Lai didn't work with a stencil... he simply free-handed the design with several pens, directly on your body. He's a very cool, confident cat, laid back and within minutes has you chatting it up like you went to high school together. I went next as my wife wanted to see how mine's worked out to help solidify her concept. Lai drew a honu/dragon/shark tooth design on my upper arm and I said "go for it". 2.5 hours later I was stunned at the fine details he added to the shark's teeth encircling the honu shell, as well as tribal accents in the honu, while incorporating the dragon profile. It really was satisfying to see my concept executed closely, while adding style and depth, bringing it to life. Carla was last up and really wanted to stick close to what I had done... just smaller and wanted the dragon to "pop" more. As you can see, Lai nailed it... however subtle, the dragon does appear more prominent on her piece. da Wrap: Really happy all-around, already thinking about how to add to it, maybe add color, grow it further down my arm, how to add to the story. It's a very personal thing and I really suggest you take your time to research and find the right artist. I'm confident that you'll find the right one at Tattoo Hawaii. We were there most of the day and saw several folks and artists' work, there was actually one guy there the whole time getting a large whole body piece worked on with a manual tattoo tool, that's an investment! HUGE shout out to Lai for making our sessions so enjoyable and comfortable... When he found out it was my and my wife's 1st work, he said he was honored to be 1st... such a humble guy, great disposition. We'll see you soon brother!

Many things have changed since my 2018 visit so the information in this review can stay relevant…read more I visited last week for a fairly large piece and Lai took care of it like he did with my two other ones. When you arrive remember to fill out the paperwork provided. This could probably be streamlined if it were made available online. Regardless, you can reach out to the shop via social media or even the shop's webpage too. We took multiple breaks on my last visit. What started out as a request for a pueo turned into a session to catch up since pre-pandemic and get back in the chair. Lai free handed the entire piece. I wanted a poly style piece with Lai's style and that's what I got. Very much appreciated for attention to detail. Reach out to the shop via social media and if you want specifics like cost and time, you better be specific about your request too. (i.e. size, color, design, etc). There are so many shops on Oahu and Tattoo Hawaii was the only one that gave me an accurate cost and time frame, not to mention some awesome conversation. Highly recommended and thoroughly enjoyed!

You have got to be kidding me, but I always wanted to go to Lisa the only reason why I call other places in the first place is because they open it on the little bit later side and I wanted to get it done as soon as possible but long story short EVERYWHERE else has crazy inflation prices... Lisa is seriously the only person that I remember it being the same amount from 10 years ago that is so crazy honestly I feel like she should make everything at least $10 more That's how good her services, she ain't even answered all my questions that I have about why my industrial fill out before and all that this is literally my first good review normally I only review places when it's like extremely bad not just a little bad I can handle that but if it's like the worst place I've ever been to then I have to write something to one others but Lisa is my first good review and I'm very thankful that she took me in as a walk-in and had me out within 10 minutes maybe even 5 minutes at the most thanks again Lisa :) PS she even exited the tipping screen and said to not worry about tipping her but of course I want to~she already has her prices ridiculously cheap.. We decided to return for another tattoo this trip. My daughter got a beautiful red flower (we knew red ink tends to fade faster), and I got a beach scene with palm trees. Both tattoos came out lovely, truly 5-star-worthy work. The reason for my 3-star review isn't about the artwork but the experience afterward. While my daughter was in the lobby, the staff were admiring her tattoo, which was nice to hear, but then the conversation turned to comments about how the red ink wouldn't last and other remarks that weren't so positive. We completely understand the nature of red ink and appreciate honesty, but it's not great to overhear that kind of discussion right after getting a tattoo. For many people, including us, tattoos often hold sentimental meaning, they represent moments, memories, and people close to our hearts, even if we don't always share that story out loud. So, a little extra sensitivity goes a long way. Overall, the artistry and quality of the work are top-notch, but I'd just recommend being mindful of conversations when clients are still around to hear them.
