I'm still partial to my regular Chinese restaurant, Green Tea, but there were definitely some things I enjoyed about Mayflower. Pork Fried Rice: Fried rice is one of the dishes I use as a benchmark for judging any Chinese restaurant. For me, it has to be traditional brown fried rice, taste fresh, and have a generous amount of pork. I'm not a fan of the yellow fried rice so many places seem to serve these days. Mayflower definitely delivered on this one! The rice was fresh, flavorful, and had a good amount of pork throughout. I'd give it a solid 9 out of 10. Easily one of the highlights of the meal! Chicken Chop Suey: This was actually my favorite dish of everything I ordered. The chicken was tender, the vegetables were good, and the dish had plenty of flavor. Very much reminiscent of what I used to get in the Boston area Chicken on a Stick: Surprisingly good! The chicken was moist, tender, and flavorful, and honestly tasted much better than it looks in my photograph. Egg Roll: Very disappointing. No real vegetables, just cabbage paste. Vegetable Mei Fun: This was probably my least favorite dish of the bunch. It wasn't bad, just okay. The predominant vegetables were broccoli and zucchini, with a few snow peas and very little Napa cabbage. I'm accustomed to the vegetable Mei Fun at Green Tea, which has a more varied assortment of vegetables, including onions, carrots, and bean sprouts. But the vegetables were very crisp and very fresh, which is extremely important in additional dishes. The flavor was also a little disappointing. It had what tasted like an overly pronounced oyster sauce flavor, something I don't typically encounter in vegetable Mei Fun. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't particularly memorable either. This is probably one dish I'd skip on a return visit. Overall, a pretty satisfying meal with several things worth ordering again. The pork fried rice earned an impressive 9 out of 10, the chicken chop suey was my personal favorite, and the chicken on a stick and egg roll were also very enjoyable. Green Tea still holds the top spot as my go-to Chinese restaurant, but I'm glad I gave Mayflower a try. It's always nice to have another option in the area, and there were certainly enough positives here to warrant another visit! And just like Green Tea, they are closed on Mondays.
