I'm not a huge Chinese food person, but when I do China Garden is normally what I want. Yes, it's that classic greasy really filling Chinese style takeout, but it's good, definitely better than your average big Chinese food franchise. Plus, the service is pretty consistently fast. They have a really easy to use online ordering portal- I use to do big groups orders, like 15-17 people through them and they always had everything ready at the exact time I requested it, if not sooner. Their traditional orange chicken is great, and I really like the sweet and sour chicken. I've had the shrimp before but it usually comes breaded and is half bread half shrimp which wasn't the best. Cheap and Delicious, their lunch and dinner deals are affordable and plenty (I would know, I'm a college student). The cashier and I became good friends from how often I visited and ordered, there's plenty of options to choose; there are several cooks in the back making the food. The Dine-In area is ok but I recommend getting it to go while being in the comfort of your home eating a the delicious food while watching a show, you will be filled ! Well, it was NOT great. It was just like any other tiny Chinese food restaurant ... same old faded pictures on the wall, same menu as anywhere else, mediocre food. I had the Gen. Tao's Chicken. Nice portion but not much flavor; certainly didn't taste particularly fresh. Totally forgetable. The lady at the counter was very nice, and service was fast. The seating area was small-diner style but without any service (e.g., if you buy food-to-go, you can sit inside and eat. I probably won't be back, but it wasn't too bad. We live in Bartow and drive to this place because it's the best Chinese restaurant in the area and believe me I have tried every Chinese restaurant in the Bartow south Lakeland area. The food is always delicious and when the older gentleman is cooking it's especially tasty. The inside is a typical Chinese restaurant they all look about the same to me except for the bigger dine in types. Broccoli and I'm An egg roll period period I handed the cashier, a $50 bill. And waited for my order. I waited and I. Waited, I thought on a Sunday afternoon.They wouldn't be too but I was wrong period they didn't have the sauce for the Beef broccoli period I wasn't told that I wasn't told that I wasn't told that I wasn't told that I wasn't told that I waited. And suddenly somebody left from the store. And I was told that they were on their way to get the sauce. I can wait for the sauce period While I was waiting, I went home to tell my wife. The order they handed me consisted of fresh, uncooked broccoli with rice. No explanation was given. My my change was inaccurate and I wasn't offered any alternatives from the menu. I ordered Szechuan beef and steamed rice, egg roll. The white rice goes from cold (cooked) to a wok to heat (so is it not less healthy/fried?) Entree was nicely spicey. Food very hot. Portion large. Egg roll tasted horrible--one of worst I've had. Owners speak great English--which is nice if you request specialy order. 14 year old son mans the front counter. Painted an unappetizing green. No pics on the wall, used furniture. Mom who was working front counter also walking around with a plunger and rubber gloves (kinda yucky but probably needed). Only open a week so probably needs time to get it all together. I am very particular when it comes to Chinese food. I have had a variety of Chinese food from fast food, traditional, etc. over the years. However China Garden has some of my favorite Chinese take out food. The sesame chicken is delicious. The chicken is not overcooked or undercooked but just right. I absolutely love the egg drop soup. While my roommate said the chicken lo mien was "ok" and the eggrolls were "not bad", I was rather disappointed when I ordered Mongolian beef, a $7 meal that charged and extra 70 cents to change the rice to lo mien - and got a pile of onions with a tiny portion of actual beef. I separated the onions and beef, and the result of my plate, if broken into eights, was four-eighths lo mien, three-eighths onion, and one-eighth beef. I drove all the way back to the restaurant with the food divided as such, and when I walked in the door, the chef approached me, saw my food, and turned away muttering under his breath in what I assume is Chinese. The young lady who ran the register came up and - while not being rude about it- was completely flabbergasted that I had any issue with paying $8 for a large pile of onions. She said no one had complained about it before - to which my reply was that maybe I had gotten an unlucky serving. She shook her head no, and said that this was the way they always served it. To which I replied that I would not be eating there any more, and once again requested a refund. If I wanted a plate full of soy sauce sauted onions, I could have done that for $2 or less myself. Went there today. Order taker was rude and short with me while taking my order. Give me a stated wait time of 15 minutes for my food. After 30 minutes of waiting I find out that they have totally forgotten my food and told me it will be another 5 minutes.
