I came here for a late lunch and wasn't terribly disappointed as I have been with other Chinese food restaurants in the area. I ordered Kung Pao chicken and Hot & Sour soup. The Kung Pao chicken was pretty good. It had good flavor and was actually spicy. The only thing I thought could have been improved were the carrots. They weren't cooked long enough. They were a little too crunchy. The Hot & Sour soup was a little disappointing. It was flavorful - you could taste the vinegar, but it wasn't very spicy and it didn't have a lot of the veggies, mushrooms, tofu, and meat I would expect. I am leery of Chinese food and didn't want to come here. Hubby really wanted to so I conceded. I'm glad we did. The food here was fresh and delicious. Very fast to the table. They made it fresh, it wasn't sitting there (which was why I was leery). I ordered kung pao chicken with pork fried rice. I asked for medium spice and I got it which was nice. This may have been the best kung pao chicken I've ever had. My sons got sweet and sour chicken and shrimp in lobster sauce. They both loved them. Hubby got mei fun he'd never tried it before and really liked it. I was very impressed with the prices. All lunch specials come with rice and either soup or a drink and are only $5.99. What?!? Sold! The gentleman at the counter was polite. There's Only four tables inside and they each seat only four so you may want to consider takeout fir a larger party. It isn't fancy but it does the job. We are full and happy. Great dining experience overall. Five stars. Note: since posting this review we have been back many times. Each and every time the food has been excellent. I usually order from another Chinese food place (China Sum Dublin) that is near my home, but I was at my mother's and I needed a closer place that would deliver with GrubHub. I love shrimp egg foo young and it was okay I like it better at my other place and the rice is done fine. My problem came with the barbecue spare ribs they're red color made them look like beets, looked very artificial and they had big chunks of gristle through it. I never had that at the other place ever. The crispy fried noodles were stale and tasted old and I ordered an egg drop pork wonton soup which was so gelatinous it looked like something that would come out of my nose and it grossed me out. I like a clear soupy broth not one that is like jellyish. All in all it had a lot to be desired although they were here quickly and they are driver was very nice from GrubHub. read more

This place has been in town here for a very long time. More than 15 or 20 years maybe. At least 15. I went to the karate school that was next to it 15 years ago until the school moved to a larger space. People used to get things at HK Chef all the time. NEVER heard one complaint. I hadn't tried it myself until earlier this year and I am sorry I waited so long. The food is great. They are nice people. They are consistently good. I would recommend them to anyone. They don't overspice their plainer dishes so you may want to ask for more spice or add what you want at home. That is not a bad thing in my opinion. Congratulations to this business! read more

Since at least August of 2017 something has changed. The food is terrible. There is no spice, no garlic, no nothing that made this place the best around. My last order, Saturday, I complained about a previous order of chow fun and had the receipt to show what day and time I was there. In case the issue was with a particular cook. The food had no taste, there were virtually no veggies, no sauce, and the noodles congealed. I was told it was from me letting it sit too long. Too long being the time to eat an appetizer. There was no apology or credit. The order this past Saturday was my standby of fried wings, lo me in, and bean curd with mixed veggies. Again, no flavor. This was my first time ordering from here. Fast service and friendly on the phone/in person. However, the egg rolls weren't my favorite, had an old oil smell to them. Also, the sesame chicken was just ok, I didn't feel so good after eating it/the next morning my stomach was hurting, but I did enjoy the white rice and fried rice. read more

I had a craving for fried rice and was looking to try a new place. I saw Hong Kong Chef and said, hey, why not? Honestly, I wish I would have kept driving. The only reason I'm giving them any stars at all is because I got my food quickly and it was cheap. I ordered the chicken wing special with the shrimp fried rice and an egg roll. My first clue that the food wouldn't be good was the odd smell coming from the bag when I got in my car. I ate the egg roll right away because I was hungry. It wasn't the best egg roll I've ever eaten but it wasn't the worst. But when I got home and tasted the chicken, I couldn't finish it. It tasted as if it was cooked in old oil. Absolutely disgusted. Sad, because I use to rate it beyond 5 stars but today really disappointed me. We usually order time and time again from this place and without any issue, the only time we have dispute is when there is an issue with something missing from our order. Today we ordered several pizza egg rolls and they gave us regular egg rolls, no other way to find this out but to open the egg roll! They wanted the egg rolls back and wouldn't give us the initial pizza egg rolls we ordered, which leads to me to believe that they wanted to reuse them? Idk what else they'd ask for them back for??? We order from here very often. The food is good . Tonight absolutely horrified me with the service. We ordered Pizza rolls from there . They gave us egg rolls. Not a big deal . They said they would deliver what we ordered . Cool. The gentleman gets to the door with the Pizza rolls awesome so far everything is good. He then asks for the other egg rolls back. Weird I said we had 3 of the 6 looking for pizza rolls. The delivery man says I have to pay for 3 of pizza rolls . At which point I said I'm not paying for your mistake. He calls his boss. The boss started hollering at me about no free food . I told them to keep the Pizza rolls and that we will never order from there again . Horrible service . We are talking about 12 $ . They want to lose a customer over 12$ so be it . Why do you think they want the egg rolls back . Are they not going to throw them away anyways. Are they reusing them for another customer.
