Had one mower and it wouldn't start. Was told 2 weeks. After almost 2 months I took it back not finished. The parts that where ordered never came with everything they needed. Went to another place and the part was in stock. Their service is a joke. They still use paper instead of computers. This place is not adequately staffed to handle its workload. 10-12 days for a simple repair is ridiculous. For this, business (Honest Engine Sales and Service of Layton, Utah) one star is too much! I had a small walk behind lawn mower that needed a spring tuneup! It was starting very difficultly this year. I took it to the above named business for service, and I was told that it needed service to the tune of above $240.00, and in need of a new carburetor, among other services need to return it to service. Needless to say I was downhearted at the thought of having to buy another lawn mower. Later that evening, and after retrieving the mower I drained the fuel and flushed the fuel system! I added a little fresh fuel to the tank and a half hearted pull on the starting rope, and it started with a half hearted pull! It purred like a kitten and was ready to wack some grass! Not bad for a mower that HONEST ENGINE SALES and SERVICE of Layton, Utah said was in need of carburetor and among other needed repairs! I did talk with management, and they were unconcerned about this situation. So be aware of this business! Sad how the need for a dollar changes people and or businesses! read more

These guys are either crooks or completely incompetent. My personal pace on my Toro stopped working, I could see that a bolt had fallen out. It needed a tune up and the blade needed to be sharpened. I took in my mower and they said it needed $300.00 in work. The carburetor was shot. It was working fine before I brought it in. I just needed a bolt to be replaced. I told them not to touch it and picked it up, I had a friend that has worked on small engines for years take a look at it for me and yes the Carburetor needed to be cleaned but not replaced. He fixed the other problems for me and it took him an hour. The mower works great. I really feel that Honest Engine was trying to take advantage of me. read more

Anything but honest. First let me start by saying I have been purchasing equipment and parts as well as service fro "Honest" engine for more than 20 years. I am extremely disappointed in their customer service and will never buy anything from them again. I will pay triple or buy a whole new machine somewhere else before I ever buy another part from these folks. On June 12th 2020 I called and spoke with Logan and got a price and availability on some parts. I told him i would call back if i decide to order. I tried to call first thing saturday and no answer, i tried several time Saturday, several times monday and tuesday also. I called again on Friday June 19th and left another message, this time simply asking if they would recommend another place i could order parts feo. Finally Lowell the owner called me back and told me their computers crashed and phones had been out all week long. I was skeptical but i again gave him model numbers and what not and ordered the parts. I was told 4-6. Business days so i set myself a reminder to call today Thursday June 25th to check on progress. I called and a young lady answered and looked up my name and order. She repeated the order back to me, it was obvious he did not know what she was reading or what the parts were but that's ok she is just a parts counter person and dosent really need to kno what a seat switcher a seat are for a riding mower.....anyway, she proceeded to tell me that two of the parts were backordered, so I asked which ones, she came back and said it was one part backordered, then she returned to the phone and said it was three parts backordered. Turns out they were all available and they simply had not ordered them. So come to find out, they owner had put my name in bu had just replaced a name in another account and did not have the correct phone nmber or address for me. So I told her I want to speak with Lowell thenowner to discuss all the lies that had been told to me. Now, keeping mind, my wife is standing next to me and I am being very nice to this simple young girl on the phone. So the "manager" came on the phone and accused me of calling the other girl a B%^&H. I had not called her any kind of names and was appalled. I asked why I had been lied to for three weeks and I told her I want a refund I will go somewhere else. And she hung up on me. So I drove down there and walked in and asked for the owner Lowell, and was told he is unavailable, i said call him and get him down here immediately. This woman came out and started yelling at me, I finally got a word in and said just give me my refund and I'll be on my way. And I asked why her employee had accused me of calling her names falsely. The employee was sitting right there and wouldn't even make eye contact. I asked again why she lied and the manager tried to tell me that she tried to explain on the phone that she didnt believe her employee, but it was too late. The employee should be dismissed if she truly accused me of that and the manager should be fired for treating her employee that way. So, I called a competitor just 10 miles up the road, it turns out all the parts are indeed available and can be here within 2-3 days. Shows that "Honest" engine is not only not "honeat" but also incompetent and inept at ordering parts, also the competitor, ogden lawn and garden was also 20% cheaper. If you choose to use honest engine, please patronize at your own risk because honest is just their name, not their motto. read more

Find somewhere else, they have horrible service. I was told 10-12 on a simple repair on my mower. Sharpen blades and repair adjustment lever, it took nearly 30 days to get my mower repaired. The shop never kept me posted on time I always had to call and check and their response was always maybe tomorrow. I do understand getting parts in can delay a job, but they had no urgency and didn't seem to care that it was taking so long. Once mower was done it ended up being super expensive, I was unaware that my mower had two blades and they charged $18 per blade to sharpen and the other work well ended up being more than the mower is worth. Once loading into my truck he tells me that the mower has a Knock in the engine and probably won't last much longer, which he could have told me before work began. read more

if you have 1-2 weeks to leave your equipment and don't want it done right the first time this is the place. Bought a Husqvarna tractor from them trying to support small business rather than going to lowes. After dropping $2,600.00 I am treated no better than a number at lowe's. After two years of service the blade engagement broke.. they claimed it was consumer abuse since I didn't lube it. After I showed them the service ticket from the last two years of them servicing it they put it under warranty . I quickly brought it home only to have the tractor engagement fail again! I assume they take the same care in repair as they do service. I should have saved the $200 bought it from Lowe's . Once I Get the tractor back my relationship with them is over. read more

Literally the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with, foul attitude and unabashedly RUDE. Not only were they unable to fix my mower but when I simply asked why (a mechanical question) they said just don't come back (several times). I have never had a situation escalate so quickly. And 100% on the side of the representative. These people are disgusting liars with such a handle on this area that they don't even care about being professional. Seriously, AVOID THIS INCOMPETENT small business. I do my best to stay local but I will drive ANYWHERE else for my future needs. They can go straight to hell. read more

Honest engine is a horrible company to work with. They don't call you about parts. Their customers service is horrible and when parts are back ordered for weeks they charge you a restocking fee. Save a headache and go somewhere else. read more

I've been using Honest Engine for several years. I was shocked to see negative reviews when I just googled them for the phone number. These guys have been great for me and everyone I know. I've overheard them tell customers that X and Y could both be repaired, but that they'll likely be fine with just getting X fixed. I've heard irate customers yell at them, who don't understand that old untreated gasoline left in the carburetor over a season will gum things up and it's not part of a warranty service. This year I went in after the first big snow storm. They received over 200 snowblowers (I asked because they were spilling out of their shop area) for repair in a couple of days and completely sold their inventory of new ones. Mechanics were working overtime to try to get machines back to customers. People bring stuff in from all over the wasatch front because they are good at what they do and honest. I understand that sometimes they're in a hurry trying to take care of everyone and take a little longer than other times. Like any shop, I'm sure they make a mistake every so often, but they've always taken great care of me and everyone I know. I trust them with all of my small engine stuff. Great company! read more

I had gone to another business in Clearfield, Utah and they clearly stated if I did not have the serial number, they would not be able to help me and since the part I was looking for was for a Toro lawn mower they suggested for me to go to Honest Engine because they carry a lot of Toro brand equipment. Honest Engine are very unprofessional, I showed them the part that I was looking for and one of the cashier said he had the right part and it would fit. I asked them if they were sure and they said yes, but I guess this business is money hungry and would LIE to customers just to get a sale. I was looking to buy a lawn mower from them, but seeing what kind of business they run, absolutely not. I've passed all this info to all friends, neighbors not to shop at Honest Engine, because they will lie about their products just to get the sale. Funny that on the receipt it never saids anything about electrical parts being returned, but then again what can you expect from these people. read more

Worst place ever!!!!! This is my third time and last time ever going to this place. I dropped off my snow blower and paid the minimum $25 fee for troubleshooting. I got a call one week later giving me an estimate of fixing the snowblower, 2 stage Toro purchased 2 years ago at $800. They said my electric starter need to be replaced and would cost well over $200, my carburetor needed to be replaced, my skids needed to be replaced, and a tune up and oil change. They told me that it would cost me $220+ to have everything repaired minus the electric starter and I asked if they could come down on price and they said the carburetor only comes brand new and not rebuilt and the part alone is $50. So they said I could get everything else fixed and they could order me the carburetor for $155. I still felt like it was highway robbery and they would not come down on price, so I said sure go ahead. They called me a couple of days later and said that it was ready to pickup on Tuesday. I waited till Friday my day off to pickup. I met the boy at the counter and said I should have $130 bill to pay because I was told that the price was $155 and so I thought minus the $25 required fee to look at it would be subtracted from total due. The boy at the counter said no, it was $153 and would have cost $188 if he had not subtracted the $25 fee so he took my $153 with credit card and receipt that does not indicate any labor or parts for the job. He went back to get my snowblower, I waited 30 minutes, nobody there, then the owner came in and said that he was trying to start the snowblower to make sure it ran before pickup and explained that he was trying to start it using the electric starter and did not realize that I chose not to have it fixed. She also said that it had old gasoline in it making it difficult to start. Then the owner's spouse came out 10 minutes later and said still having problems getting it started, so I explained that I had to run a quick errand and I would be back to see if they got it started. I came back 15 minutes later, one of the employees came out into the showroom and I asked if my snowblower was ready yet and he responded that I would have to speak to the other young man since he did not know what I was talking about. Then the other young man at the counter had the carburetor part in hand saying that I chose not to have them change out the carburetor and that's why it would not start. I was ticked off and said," what you are telling me is that you are charging me over $100 for an oil change and a tune up with new spark plugs for a snowblower that won't start." He said that the carburetor cost $50 and I said I know I was quoted price over the phone and then his response was, "yep, I guess so". So, I saw on the counter that they were selling "Mechanic in a bottle" which advertises fix poor/non-running engines, revitalizes stale fuel, cleans carb, no removal. I picked up a bottle and asked if they had tried using one of these bottles to get it started and he said no and asked if I was going to use the bottle and by then I was so hot under the collar that I said yes, and he sold me the bottle for $11 and some change. I took the snowblower and loaded it into the back of my van and told everyone in my family about how upset I was about this experience and vowed to write a review and never, ever, return to this business ever again. read more
