In addition to online transactions with the bank, you will be dealing with a third party, called "radware. Radware intercepts your online transaction, and will not recognize your credentials, will cause you to create new ID, and lock up your computer. I've made several trips to the branch to correct this. Business bank accounts do not allow you to set up an external account for t ransfers. Really? Every other bank I have makes this easy. Their three-part login is annoying. What's wrong with name and password? Their statements are outsourced so they don't open on the same web page. They only give you a month of history of transactions; if you need prior t h=o that, you have to go to the statements. I have their app on my phone: today it suddenlt wants a verification code. I've used it successfully for months. I didn't ask for a verification code, or change anythig, and I don't know what the code might be. Overall, just a really primitive electronic banking system. Hometrust has been my hometown bank for about 15 years. During that time I have consistently raved about their customer service. They really feel like a small town bank. For the last year, however, me and my dog have spent most of our time traveling throughout western North Carolina. In that time, the small town bank aspect has seemed to be more a liability than a strength. Hometrust seems to not have woken up to modern day banking, focused so intensively on online services. Their hours of telephone support are really quite skimpy - ending early in the evening and being nonexistent on the weekend. For the many months that I was using PayPal as my cash app, they kept putting a hold on PayPal payments that were coming from California. Apparently the computer said, "He didn't tell us he was going to California." It has taken me days to get somebody to free up money that I actually needed like that first day. There have been times when I thought I was ready to ditch Hometrust and go with one of the big banks like Capital One, which I assume has their online functionality down cold. Every time I think that I will finally make the jump, it seems that I have a face-to-face interaction with a Hometrust employee that wins my loyalty back. Today it was a cashier named Kristin Wold, in the Asheville Woodfin Avenue branch. I asked Kristin at the end of our transaction if she had been doing customer service for a long time and she said, "Yes, but I only recently began working in a bank." Kristin has obviously come by her customer service chops honestly - in the trenches. She was very warm and gracious - really tended to her connection with me, even as her computer system seemed balky and non-responsive to her input. When the going got tough, Kristin got tougher. Her focus became much more intense and it was clear that no way was that system going to stop her from serving her customer. I taught customer service for many years, and this woman is a pro. I wish I had an Asheville business that I could hire her for. So, HomeTrust, my funds are certainly not a big account or a major player in your system. I've been with this bank for almost 20 years. It used to be a really great hometown bank, very personal, they all knew your name and it was easy to get a small business loan with a great interest rate...but now it's like Wells Fargo or Capital One. Scripted replies, customer service definitely not what it used to be. High interest rates on car loans and mortgages, no matter your credit rating or how long you've been with them, almost predatory, makes you shop elsewhere with much lower interest rates. Long holds on check deposits now when checks used to clear in less than 24 hours (same employer for two decades) and always a few hundred released immediately...now, not even that. I have impeccable credit with them and a very high credit rating in general. Never overdraft. Watch my account like a hawk. Used to have a credit card with them too but the rates kept going up and offers & credit increases required pulls or a review, so closed the credit card account and got a credit card with much better interest rates through a different bank, where the limit automatically increases like clockwork, no fuss no muss. Anyway, this is not HomeTrust anymore. I may close my accounts with them...all in good standing. Personally, I think this is a phenomenon true of most all of the banks now, even credit unions. They've figured out how to make the maximum profit with the least service...down to the penny. The customer is made to feel irrelevant now. There only seems to be one good agent anymore at Hometrust, her name is Alexandria at the Asheville branch, all the good ones have moved on. If you get her, you are a fortunate soul. read more

Payed off my auto loan with this institution. They kept charging me a monthly payment after my loan was complete and I had my title. When called customer service to resolve this issue, I was told that it was MY responsibility to cancel my monthly payments. After doing the work to cancel the monthly payments, I was also told that I would not be receiving a refund for weeks. Bad business practices. read more

I just had to lend my friend who banks with these incompetent jerks over a hundred dollars during the weekend because Hometrust Bank misapplied her stimulus check to someone else's account. Now they say they cannot find her $1200 stimulus money while they get kissy kissy with her on the phone and tell her all will be well. They promised Friday that they would have the mistake fixed by today which is Monday, 5/18/2020. Yes, today is Monday and she pulled up her account online and it still shows it is overdrawn... a negative balance of almost $700. I saw it. They said they would fix it today, but now they are saying they cannot fix it until tomorrow. And I need my $100 back. I wouldn't bank with these whackos if they were the last bank in Asheville. I have been a customer of Homtrust bank for over 2 years. I have checking & savings there as well as a joint account with my mother. I went through the drive thru at the Hershburger location on 7/2 to withdraw from my account and also do a small withdrawal for my mother ($60). I also had a $20 check that my mother had received for her birthday and my mother had endorsed the check and I endorsed it in front of the teller and asked if she would cash it as well. I was told by the teller she could not cash the $20 check because my mother was not present. It would have to be deposited and I would have to sign a withdrawal slip for the $20. I was told by Alicia Gosline just because I was joint on an account with my mother, that did not entitle me to cash a check made payable to her. I did not appreciate her condescending attitude or her lack of knowledge. I have been in banking for nearly 40 years and the one thing you must never forget is how to apply common sense. I am sure this will have no effect on their bottom line but I will be closing all of my accounts as well as my mother's accounts immediately. I am entitled to do just that! The main reason for my actions are the condescending attitude and being told "they are coming down on us hard to do things right". That indicates to me, they must be doing a lot of things wrong if they are willing to refuse to cash a $20 check for a known customer. read more

After a thorough review of my credit and income, I was told on 1/28 that the bank could offer me a construction loan and sent all the information I needed to provide. I provided them all the info, with a 800+ credit score, and they then told me i would need to transfer all my banking over to them to get that product. After 13 days of back and forth, Tanya finally called me and said they couldn't offer it to me. This is after i had told 3 lenders no. After banking with Hometrust (formerly Clyde Savings) for 25 years, having as many as 8 accounts, both commercial and personal, with them I am leaving them. A year ago, when I signed up for paperless statements it was ON. They mixed up all transactions from that point on, crediting and debiting personal transactions from my commercial accounts, and vice versa .. It was several months before I realized this was happening, as I can never access my accounts online. I am always "locked out" of my accounts, though in the MANY calls to Customer Service, they always say I am NOT locked out. Well, I am - it says so in RED letters right there on my computer screen! I finally gave up, and decided that I didn't really need to see my transactions. Was I ever wrong! Hundreds of transactions were misplaced. My branch manager said it was too much for her to figure out. She did ask for help for me from higher up, but they told me I needed to pay a CPA to get this all straightened out!! It is clearly the bank's error! So, after trying myself for over 40 hours to figure this mess out, the bank manager telling me it is too much for her to figure out, several requests for help, and being told I needed to pay a CPA to figure it out (and having to file tax deadline extensions) I could no longer let it go. I had to file my taxes. The CPA charged me $600 to clear up just one account. Promises of help have not materialized, even now - September. Horrible customer service. Just yesterday, I finally called the dreaded Customer Service about the credit/debit card that is always declined when I try to use it as a Debit - for 2 months now. They cannot tel me why this is happening. They say they see no problem with my PIN number, or anything else. No help at all. During this same conversation I reported that I had just gotten another credit card, as I did not have a dedicated credit card, which was set up for full pay each month via auto draft. I became concerned that the bank would mess this up too. My payment was due yesterday, but by 2:00 pm it had not come out of my account. I called the Credit Card company, who said that it is set up on auto-draft, but that no payment had been made. They also told me that there is no grace period if not paid on this date, as it was set up on Auto-draft. Concerned that Hometrust would mess up again, this time causing a black mark on my credit record if not paid on time, I called Hometrust. Customer Service told me that they did not tell whether I was actually set up on Auto-Draft or not. What??? OMG, the stress this bank has caused! What has happened to this wonderful bank, which has always had such good customer service?? There is NONE any more. It is no longer a local bank. As a final blow, this morning I am still locked out of my online banking, and cannot see whether my credit card payment was paid by the bank. Last night, with no suggestions by anyone at all, I decided to make a small online payment to the credit card company in order to make sure I do not get a late-payment report on my credit report. Still waiting for that phone call from higher management that was promised 4 days ago. One more thing. I have had many mortgages and refinances over the years with Hometrust. I have never had a late payment, and have many accounts with this bank. I applied for a small refinance (for 10% of my home's value) several years ago. They took so long to process this that the original contract expired and I had to re-apply! What in the world?? No help, no corrections, no advice, nothing. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Hometrust was great a few years ago. Starting last year things started going downhill and within the past few months it has reached the point of no return. Their online banking and bill pay just simply doesn't work suddenly. They stopped sending my HOA payments but the money disappeared from my account, so I thought they were doing their job until I got an email from the HOA treasurer stating that I was behind on dues and water bills and was ready for disconnection. This also went to others in the neighborhood so this caused me significant embarrassment! Once I went to get a certified check to pay this bill I did receive a half-hearted apology (gee, thanks!) This was just weeks ago but then yesterday I received a late notice from one of my credit cards! They haven't been paying that bill either!!! AVOID HOMETRUST! THEY ARE APPARENTLY ON THEIR WAY DOWN THE DRAIN!!! I will be jumping ship ASAP! It is sad because the people at my branch are amazing! They are helpful, friendly, and wonderful. My personal bank does not allow business accounts and I wanted to choose a local bank versus a national chain. Choosing Hometrust was the worst decision I could have made. It was a hassle from the beginning. I had to go into the bank on three separate occasions to properly set up the account because the representative made several mistakes that I had to come back and sign for. I should of trusted my gut then and got out but I honestly did not have the time to do so. One of the reasons I chose Hometrust was the mobile deposit feature. It was my only requirement for the account as I usually get paid daily and going to the bank everyday isn't logical or reasonable when running a business. Once the account was set up they informed me that mobile deposit was only available for personal accounts and would be available for business accounts in the near future (this was over a year ago). Each individual bank seemed to follow their own rules. One bank would complain about the checks I had printed (not from them), others would complain about how the checks were endorsed. Even though it was inconvenient and terrible customer service I was able to work around it. Until this month. They put a hold on my account for seven business days. Which is actually ten real days. However, frustrating this would be under any circumstances, they did not tell me at the bank when I was there to make a deposit (most of November's revenue). The teller allowed the deposit and I received a voicemail later in the day telling me that they were placing a hold on the account. I couldn't access any of the money I deposited. Running a business is almost impossible when something like this happens and the only explanation I received from the bank is "they don't legally have to provide me a reason." I spoke to at least a dozen people and it was never resolved. I had to stop calling because I was speaking out of anger and knew I would eventually say something that would be unprofessional and hateful toward the individual I was speaking with. I used credit cards, transferred funds between my other accounts using paypal, and paid the business expenses out of my personal account. I felt lucky that only two things bounced and I was able to take care of those quickly. However, this week my personal bank (who does not allow business accounts) made the decision to close my account because it seems that I was running a business from it. I have thirty days to get everything transferred. I love my personal bank and even though I stayed in touch with different representatives during this ordeal, I wasn't speaking to the managers and they were not aware of what was going on. No explanation or promises that it was getting worked out could save me from loosing this account. Hometrust has completely turned all financial matters into a nightmare all the weeks prior to Christmas. I would not recommend them to my enemy. read more

Hometrust Bank collected over $85K in interest from me I pd a payment that was due in Feb on the first day of Mar 1, it was 29 days late and they reported to the credit bureau as 30 days late. They were wrong in reporting it as 30 days when it was 29 days late. It has impaired my credit and it has become a joke with them when I call them. They are terrible at customer service and if they treat people this way that pays them as much interest that I have pd-look out. Beware of Hometrust Bank! Terrible morals and ethics! read more

(Johnson City Branches on North Roan and State of Franklin) If you plan to travel, do not count on having access to your money. It doesn't matter if you initiate a travel form via the phone or in-person, or call again to verify that the travel form is in place. Your teller may even tell you that she will verify it and call you the day before you leave (marking it on her calendar), but don't count on that either. In fact, you can skip altogether the branch and call the travel office directly to confirm your travel plans. None of this matters, because you will get to your destination and find that you are locked out of your account and denied access to your own money. The one time they succeeded in getting the travel form in place, they got the country wrong (Austria and Australia are two different places, HomeTrust). This has happened to us 10 times now - EVERY time we travel, and regardless of where we go. What is most ridiculous is that when we call from our destination in a panic, they seem to get it right in like one minute. It's pretty scary when you arrive in another country and it is 2:00 AM back home and you are literally stranded at the airport with no money for a cab or a train. We've learned to bring some cash because we have come to expect that they will let us down. We have since opened an account at Eastman Credit Union, and we could not be happier. HomeTrust did nothing for us. Since we have switched banks, we now have a nice car and a credit card, both of which HomeTrust refused us. One last thing, to the men working in first floor offices at the branch on North Roan St. When the phone rings, don't exit your office to see which hardworking female is going to answer it. We went with HomeTrust to finance our car purchase because they were offering a slightly lower rate than our normal bank - what a huge mistake! They are really not keeping up with the other banks as far as customer service and efficiency of using their service. It has been nothing but a hassle since the beginning. I prefer paying the big bills bi-weekly when I get my check because it saves me from having to come up with a big payment all at once - I tried to set this up and they told me it was not possible - I could only make one payment a month on their system. What!? I have never heard of this - we have paid everything from other car payments to credit card bills to our mortgage in split payments so this was very disappointing. It was suggested by one of their CS reps that I set up a checking account with them and transfer the money into that bi-weekly and then make the monthly payment out of it. That is what I did and I have to set up transfers from my other bank account to go into HomeTrust as well as setting up a transfer from HomeTrust checking to the loan account. Since I only use the checking for paying the loan payment I do not log in and check it very often and just recently when I logged in I noticed that I was being charged a "Paper statement fee" for the last 2 months. I do receive paper statements but always shred them and they have never given me or asked me for the option to go paperless and I never saw any indication that I was going to be charged. I contacted them and they said there was a notice in my statement (where????) and refunded the fees. If you are going to start charging a fee for something you should warn people and give them the option to not pay it. Both of my other banks make it easy to go paperless and if I had seen that option before I would have chosen it because I prefer to bank online anyway. Instead I had to pay a fee (fees were refunded) then go searching on their website to try and figure out how to get out of it. Needless to say, once our loan is payed off I will not continue to be a HomeTrust customer and I do not recommend them to anyone looking for a bank. read more
