My son and husband began building a shed for tools and toys, it was to be their father and son project. The first phase of the building went great but then my husband was diagnosed with cancer. He died before the project was complete and we needed to find a company that could install the metal roofing we had purchased. I got quotes from three companies the week of May 5th and decided to hire Homestead Structures LLC on May 14th. The estimate was really low and I knew there would need to be adjustments, which I communicated to the person who came to do the estimate. I was surprised when he told me it would be at least 2 weeks before he could get to it but he was enthusiastic and seemed to want to complete the job. When I expressed concern about the timeline, he told me he was really busy but would try to fit us in at the end of May. We spoke on the phone 4 days before the work was to start, confirming that we were still on track. I was told they would be here on May 24th at 9:00 am to start putting on the metal and install flashing.
Imagine my shock when I opened my email on May 24th at 7:30 am to find a message sent on May 23rd at 5:53 pm starting with "I am sorry to waste your time..." continuing to say Homestead Structures LLC would not be here today, May 24th because the estimate was not accurate. They apparently made a mistake and would not be able to do the job. If that wasn't bad enough, the email ended with "Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. I'd be happy to come by and help you get another tarp over the ripped area to buy some more time while you find somebody who is comfortable with this work." I was pretty angry, I had put off a day's work to be on site for them and losing money for me has a real impact right now considering I am the sole bread winner for our household.
The person who came to do the estimate told me the company was relatively new and I felt good about giving them the opportunity. I suspect this company has financial backers who are not concerned about the reputation of the business. I regret that I agreed to give them the chance to prove what they can do. Now I am left with having to go through the whole bidding process again and wait for another contractor to have an opening. It will probably be another month before I can get a lid on this shed and a tarp will not be enough to keep water at bay in Oregon.
If you want a job to be done, don't bother calling Homestead Structures LLC, they apparently have enough work already! If you enjoy getting the run around from entitled upstarts, by all means give them a call. I won't be saying good things to my friends about this experience, there are too many people out here who desperately need work and will do a good job. read more
