I called to make an appointment today because my daughter passed away on Friday. They had zero…read morecompassion and treated me like some number instead of a grieving mother. They were more worried about defending their jacked up prices than they were about helping me. They were absolutely the most cold horrible people you could ever speak with, especially when you're grieving. You'd think they would have some empathy since they do this for a living but obviously they are desensitized and should close this business because they do not know how to treat people.

Dealing with the passing of a beloved family member is hard enough, but the ordeal this funeral…read morehome put my family through made that experience even worse. My grandmother, whom I was extremely close to, passed away on Dec 7th. My Grandmother had a favorite blanket that we used for a private viewing for our family. Several members of my family discussed in detail with the funeral home that this blanket would be returned to the family after the ceremony, however this funeral home refused to return the blanket when we tried collecting it and then they carelessly destroyed the blanket. Another piece of my Grandmother gone forever. We asked to take the blanket the day we left the viewing, but we were told "no," and that we "couldn't take it" at that point. The matter of returning the blanket to my family was brought up again with the funeral home. We were told that Cheryl Marshall, the woman who we were working with and coordinating the services knew the blanket was to be returned to us, however she left before we were finished with the viewing and clearly did not pass the message along to other staff working at the funeral home. I don't know what happened or where the communication went wrong between the employees at the funeral home, but the blanket was never given back, and we were told that it was instead sent with my grandmother for cremation. This blanket was a keepsake that was supposed to be passed down me and my children, and it meant a lot to me. While the blanket was not going to bring my grandma back, it would have provided me with comfort and closure since I wasn't able to say goodbye. It was the blanket she covered up with for naps and at bedtime, and it was something she always had with her. It would have been a very big piece of her that I could have to remember her by, but it is forever gone due to the carelessness of this funeral home. When I was told about the blanket at the cemetery, it was like my grandmother was being taken away from me all over again. The lack of communication and the empty promise of returning something so important is downright unacceptable--especially during such a time of grief for my family. Furthermore, my family paid the funeral home for the services for my Grandmother in full only to be asked later on for an additional $800. My uncle--who managed the finances associated with my Grandmother's passing--has no idea why more money was owed and why he was not provided with the total itemized list of expenses and everything owed upfront. As we were in a time of unexpected grief and mourning, he took the additional money out and paid the $800 to the funeral home without question. Then, on March 14, my uncle was contacted again by the funeral home 14 weeks later. They notified us that we owed an additional $50 more to them!!! We were never told what all these additional expenses were for, and I question whether they were legitimate charges or whether they thought that they would take advantage of a family in pain and mourning. It is worth noting that when we questioned where this additional $50 charge was coming from, the funeral home rescinded this charge and told us that we have paid in full and that the additional charge was from the town of Marengo not them. For a profession that deals with families experiencing grief and pain, this funeral home showed a clear apathy for my family's suffering. They were careless, and their shady business practices and process of invoicing is questionable, to say the least.
