Located in Kalihi on Moowaa Street, it's easy to find just a few turns off of Dillingham. Parking is free and plentiful, both street and dedicated stalls next to the store. For being such a specialized place, they have a wide range of hours making it convenient to stop by, especially on the weekend. Prices are reasonable, some cheaper than ordering online due to the weight of shipping costs from the mainland. Beyond just the store aspect, they have great outreach into the hobby and beer community. American Homebrewer Association Memberships are available for sale, which offers discounts at local breweries among other benefits. A new homebrewing club HIP Fermenters meets in the store certain Wednesday nights. The owners and staff also brew their own beer, which only makes sense with the space and equipment available. The store has had a long history and was in many locations over the year. The current incarnation is run by Bill and his wife; friendly local business owners. Been in here a few times, decided I wanted to start up a new hobby and ordered some things online. I got a call later the same day, guy said "you live in Honolulu, our shops is in Honolulu, why not just come and pick it up." I admitted that I was being lazy and didn't have all my ingredients yet. But the guy told me how the shipping goes, and that it would be much better if I go in, I agreed and went in to pick up my items. I've been in a couple times since then and every time I'm in there the same guy asks me about how my mead is going, asks questions about how I'm doing it, give me advice, and teaches me things that I do not know! Great place, could tell from that first phone call that the people there really care about their customers, and their hobby or product, will definitely come back here again as I branch out into more! read more

Husband has been dabbling in brewing for a little over a year... and we just found out this place exists!! We wasted so much money ordering online and having shipped to Hawaii when we could have just drove the few miles here...smh oh well- now we know . Walked in- owner..? Or the guy working (both?) was very nice and informative. He took time to answer our questions and make suggestions, as well, as show us some alternative yeasts and sanitizers than what we had been using. Very helpful!! They have all kinds of supplies for brewing wine, beer, cider, etc., as well as barley, Malta, hops, grains.. you name it! They even have a station that you weigh, grind, and bag yourself. I recently started homebrewing and Homebrew in Paradise has not only been an essential resource, it's also one of my favorite places to go! The owner, Bill, is super chill and helpful. He suggested some tips for more effective and less messy brewing, fixing my previously suspect blow-off setup with a simple but ingenious fix! He knows everything about the products in the store, and about the products he doesn't. So if you're eyeing a malt or a yeast he doesn't have in stock, he has charts up comparing and contrasting yeasts to others, and can suggest an alternative. He's also progressively adding more selection. More than making a store, he's trying to make a homebrewing community. The shop regularly hosts homebrew classes, has started a homebrewing club, and is hosting a homebrewing festival in November, complete with a competition! Now, I should admit, this is also the only pomebrewing store on the island, and the only I've ever been to, so I don't have an equivalent example. However, comparing from the internet, Bill's prices are very competitive, and you don't have to pay the absurd shipping fees from the major pomebrew supply websites. The integrity of this family business was just on an entirely different level. I had placed an order not realizing that my remoteness in the mountains would have made the shipping very costly and time consuming. HomeBrew Paradise on their own took it upon themselves to call me and give me the option to cancel my order so that I could find a better shipping rate where I live. Given the hard times this truly meant alot to me as im trying to build my own local business as well. This level of integrity and courtesy is unheard of for me. Awesome and helpful staff, and great place to buy grains. Because of the cost of shipping grains here, I'd probably not be brewing if not for this place. Edit: I had to take away a star, because for the 2nd time, I made the trip only to find out the store was closed, the day BEFORE Thanksgiving. Same thing on the 3rd of July earlier this year. I know that most businesses close for holidays, but not the entire week before a holiday. Call before making the trip to make sure they are open if you plan to go anywhere near a holiday, or you may waste some gas and time. read more

I came in here to buy a present for my boyfriend. Although I like to drink beer, I basically have no knowledge on how to brew it. I asked the guy working there if he could help me pick something out, and he tried to sell me a gift card. However, I knew my boyfriend wouldn't want to drive all the way there to use it. When I explained this, the owner directed me to a book of recipes categorized by types of beer. After I found one I thought my boyfriend might like, I asked him if I could purchase the items in the recipe. He was extremely helpful and patient with me, which I appreciated. He explained what needed to be sanitized, what needed to be refrigerated. He even told me which yeast he thought would be better (the liquid one). I can't wait to try the recipe, and I will update this review after we make it. If you are experienced in home brewing or new to it, this should definitely be one of your stops. read more

I've been burned a few times ordering kits online only to be disappointed with old grains and malt.
