    Coal

Last November I had to make a difficult decision to put my 16 year old cat, Coal, to sleep. I chose to have home care to help minimize his stress during his last moments. The doctor was very kind, patient, and supportive. She made a paw print after he was asleep, which was in a nice box with a picture frame. I just want to say thank you Home to Heaven employees for all you do and for the support you give to animals and family during such a difficult time.

Home to Heaven was absolutely amazing! The vet came to our house and showed the most respect for our grief, family and pet. It has allowed us to remember our little guy Kona's passing as peaceful and quiet. I was able to hold him as he passed. I can't be more grateful for their service. DON'T let your pet be alone but let H2H come to your home so it's not stressful for your family and pet.

It's great to be able to have your pet pass in their familiar surroundings. A little expensive.

The team in charge of my rabbits care were exceptional - knowledgeable, communicative, helpful. However, I have noticed pricing has gone up substantially, especially for "companion" rabbits. As any rabbit person knows, a bonded pair should not be separated if at all possible. My rabbit was brought in initially by himself and hospitalized for a few days before I was able to bring his bonded friend. The staff all commented on how much happier, calmer and overall better my ill rabbit seemed with his friend with him. What I was charged for the "companion" rabbit was astonishing. $2,500 for less than 48 hours. A rabbit who stayed in the same enclosure as my ill rabbit and was healthy. Did not need any medical treatment or intervention. I wanted to write this review so that others who may be in the same situation with a bonded pair are prepared for the cost. My total bill for my ill rabbit was very high, but I can more easily justify it based on the care he was receiving. My "companion" rabbits bill - I am extremely disappointed about. Especially since this is a teaching veterinary school, I fear it is teaching future veterinarians to overcharge which could potentially limit owners from being able to afford taking their animals to receive the care they need.

I brought my dog, Lupo, there during a medical emergency while we were traveling from North Carolina, and what followed was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. We were already in a state of panic, far from home, trying to make the best decisions we could. Despite that, there was a profound lack of communication, compassion, and transparency throughout his care. We were never offered the option to stay in any rooms, just to rest for a little. Being 45 minutes away while our dog was critically ill created unnecessary distance during the most important moments of his life. The most devastating part is that we were only contacted when things had already taken a severe turn, and that call was not a supportive update, but a frantic, high-pressure conversation where I felt like I was being almost yelled at that he needed to be euthanized immediately. There was no sense of guidance, no compassion just urgency without support. We were not called earlier as he declined, and we were not given a real opportunity to come and be with him in time. Because of this, I lost the chance to have any meaningful final moments with my dog. By the time we were involved, he had been intubated. That was not what I wanted unless it was absolutely necessary as a life-saving measure, and it ultimately robbed me of being able to hold him, comfort him, or say goodbye in a way that had any meaning. That is something I will carry with me forever. When we last saw him, he was placed all the way at the bottom of a cage. It felt impersonal and distressing given how critical his condition was. There was no sense that comfort or dignity in his final moments was being prioritized. To make matters worse, a necropsy (autopsy) was performed without our explicit consent. This was incredibly upsetting and felt like a violation during an already devastating time. The lack of clear communication and consent around something so significant is completely unacceptable. After his passing, the handling of his remains and the lack of communication continued to cause harm. Because of delays and inability to reach anyone, his body was not released to the memorial service we had chosen in time for us to receive his ashes before our flight home. We were forced to extend our stay, rebook flights, and incur additional expenses... all while grieving the loss of our baby. I understand this is a teaching hospital and that not every case has a positive outcome. But communication, compassion, and respect for both the patient and their family should never be optional. At no point did I feel supported, informed, or prioritized as his owner. Lupo was my world. He deserved better. And no family should have to go through what we experienced here. There was no compassion in here. There was only a severe urgency to give us a large bill.

Dr. Joya appeared lacked the knowledge I would expect from a professional in this field. I did not see her properly examine my pet, and she missed clear signs of illness. My poor baby had been suffering, and I now live with the pain of knowing earlier detection could have made a difference. My dog Hades, a 13 pound Yorkiepoo, was attacked by a large dog while on a walk. I called and the staff got us in for an appt immediately. Their compassion and care was top notch! Thankfully Hades will be fine but he did need wound cleaning, x-rays, and tubes in the wounds to ensure proper healing (the punctures were a lot deeper than it appeared on the surface which can be extremely dangerous). Dr. Latelle and Ani were both amazing, they explained all the options, risks, and benefits of each procedure so I felt I could make an informed decision. Hades has a preexisting issue with seizures so every procedure was weighed carefully against the potential risks, we thoroughly evaluated them all and Dr. Latelle consulted with her colleagues for the best outcome. I did not feel pressured or rushed and asked lots (probably too many) questions. I believe they treated Hades as one of their own, carefully monitoring and loving on him the entire time he was there. If you are looking for an excellent veterinarian team give them a try, you won't be disappointed. On a side note they were completely upfront with the cost and it was exactly what they quoted and worth every penny.

They are quick to respond, prices are great and very reasonable, and they seem to go out of their way to help us save money even though we haven't requested it. They have alerted us to discounts or applied them even if we didn't know about it, and caught in our prior vet records that we already had bloodwork done so we didn't do it again through them. We first went here because our prior vet wouldn't do another dental as didn't think our concerns were related to dental issues and then was also booking several weeks out, there were no issues here (doctor thought reasonable to do another dental, was scheduling much sooner) Sure enough, Dr. Josephs found a problem (and it seemed like her prior vet missed it). They also sent home a really cute post-dental care gift bag and tooth fairy certificate with her post-surgery directions that had a TON of free stuff. It had a full-size bottle of the dental powder I actually was needing to get more of, addition to a full bag of dental chews, oral rinse, dental kibble sample, a little toy, etc. It was a complete surprise and incredible value. We have been to a lot of vet clinics, but this is the first time we have felt that our concerns were understood by the clinic & doctor, not just brushed off. In general, it seems their mindset is to talk over options with the owner to see which route the owner wants to go and follow their lead. They have always given us more conservative and/or wait and see options, but also understand that we prefer to be more pro-active and would rather do diagnostics to rule something in or out or be more aggressive with treatment, so they give us that option as well. It's been fantastic that they have been so willing to work with what is best for our family and our anxious dog. Our dog is a complex case, and her doctor has caught a lot of things that prior vets didn't, has done a lot of problem solving, and really has helped our senior girl have a good quality of life. We have never experienced any "upselling" or recommendations that seemed "unnecessary." Everything is always relevant and reasonable. Highly recommend! Very grateful to them! :)

I saw Holmes once more, out of desperation after going to many other vets in town hoping to find more information about the costly TPLO surgery most were recommending. I had done some research over many months, pouring over professional and academic veterinary medicine publications on the subject, which I told Holmes about. (I am able to read through these pubs because I've been rigorously trained as a scientist.) But apparently his fragile ego couldn't abide an intelligent, diligent and tenacious pet owner; After the appointment, he walked me to the waiting room, which was then full, and ridiculed me in front of everyone there for getting my information from "internet chat rooms." I'm used to men treating me this way because it's so difficult them to cope with a woman with math and physics degrees, but this time I was devastated because I was already trying to cope with the pain and suffering of my beloved dog whose torn ligaments had already been misdiagnosed by another local vet who is a cat lover. I really didn't need such unprofessional, unethical, juvenile behavior on top of everything else. He's a disgrace to the profession.

I was hoping my experience with Midtown was unique, but upon reading reviews from other clients, like "Beware, and don't let them take your pet to the back out of your supervision" and "Save your money and avoid horrible customer service" and "Happiness is Midtown Veterinary Medical Center in my rearview mirror," and reading how they actually make clients cry with their stellar people skills, I feel it necessary to share my experience and to safeguard your pets by steering you clear of this clinic. Dr. Lisa McCarthy DVM, MBA, Owner certainly looks good on paper, doesn't she? She "summitted Kilimanjaro", for Dog's sake! Perhaps she should have stayed there. And here's why. I've never met a vet more inclined to disregard my wishes. She is a salesperson who pushes and pushes. To her "no" is a "maybe"--until it is a "yes". I've never met a vet who more readily denies wrongdoing, fault, and complicity. I've never met a vet whose demeanor was icier and more uninviting. "Animal lover"? I don't buy it. I took my cats to Midtown for 3 years. I was confused as to why they had so much trouble getting my cat's medication dose right. It took nearly a year of her being sick and dying before they chanced upon the correct dose. Trial and error is not a good look when it comes to life and death situations, and it certainly doesn't inspire confidence. Upselling happened constantly. Dr. McCarthy was cold and clinical and seemed to view my cat as an object to be tended to, and none too affectionately. The last time I took my sick kitty there, off she was taken to the dreaded "back room." They do not let you go with them. When we got her home, she crawled out of the carrier and couldn't walk without a limp and a drooping tail for 4 days. She wouldn't eat. She was suffering and in pain after a routine blood draw. She had been injured in that back room, and badly, and not only did Dr. McCarthy deny anything had happened, but she also apparently instructed the front office to not speak to me about it. Jane, who answers the phone and is typically so mild-mannered as to make you question if she is still breathing, hung up on me. Twice. She recited what she was told to say, "The doctor will call you back," and then click. It was unprofessional and infuriating. Dr. McCarthy refused to speak of my cat's injury that was sustained at her practice, sent me all of my cat's records and told me to take my animal somewhere else. It was laughable how she assumed I'd ever return to her little shop of horrors. My cat requires a medication to keep her alive, and she'll need it for the rest of her life. It is an expense I will readily, happily pay because I am so thankful it is saving my kitty. But I found out after going to our new vet and ordering my cat's compounded med through the very same company Midtown used, that Midtown was overcharging me for the med itself, as well as overcharging me for expedited shipping: $45 when it actually only cost $16. I understand that veterinarians do not make much money, but this behavior from someone you have no choice but to trust is unconscionable. Midtown knows you love your animals and will do anything for them. They know you will pay whatever price they quote you. Midtown was profiting from my cat's illness and they were taking advantage of a regular client. Compassion? Integrity? Competence? These are just words they chose. Words that misrepresent and mislead. Don't be fooled by these self-congratulatory words on a screen. Instead, heed the words of individuals like me, and the numerous other clients who have been subjected to the subpar care offered by this veterinary practice, and if you love your pets, do right by them.
