The truth is: I love sushi and I could easily have it a couple of nights a week. I love the little conveyor passing by and waiting for my favorite dish to get delivered directly to my table!!! Plus, if I don't have enough time to go to a restaurant and don't really feel like eating yet another sandwich, Matsuri is the place to go! You can be in and out pretty quickly. I love going there by myself, sit by the conveyor and read a book. I'll even tell you a secret: my favorite dish does not come on the conveyor, you actually have to order it... But oops... I can't remember the name of it right now... I guess I am just going to have to go back soon! :)

The menu is fairly big with some vegetarian options as well (a rarity in many French cities). Staff are super friendly and English is spoken here. We had sushi and some yakitori from here and it was all ok but not fantastic. They also offer a Yelp check in discount of 20% (not sure how long this offer is valid for). The nigiri sushi was rolled too thick with a lot of rice to fill you up :-) Yakitori was nice and well done and the miso soup was excellent. All in all an ok Japanese food place.

I ordered a spicy thon maki, salmon tataki roll, and shared a poulet yaki skewer. The fish tasted very fresh and the tataki roll was spicier than I thought, since it came with crushed peppers on top (I like spicy though so I'm not complaining) With the maki roll, you can't go too wrong with something so simple but I liked the vinegar to rice consistency with the sushi rice. The skewer was a bit dry but not too bad. Overall I had a pretty good experience!

It is sort of a cafeteria concept, with a nicer dining area upstairs. They did not have tons of variety of fish, but the salmon and tuna were both fresh and tasty, service was good and fast, and made for a delicious first meal of the excursion. One more way that France has taken a page out of our American playbook is the added convenience of having your sushi delivered. Sushi Shop would probably be an excellent choice to order delivery, but not for a serious sushi craving or a date.

Sushi and sashmi are one of the best in Lyon, (my carnivore friend's says), he vegetarian maki are simple but very good (me thinks). Prices are generally reasonable, although the lack of a vegetarian set menu makes ordering everything separately a bit pricey for the veggie options.
