I thought I liked this bank, but my recent dealings with the trust department have left me questioning my loyalty of 25 years. They ghosted me when I questioned how my cash was being spent, so I made steps to close the account. I requested an electronic transfer to an outside account but was told it had to be a paper request from them. When I had them send in the paper request I followed up in a couple weeks and was told they never received it. They then agreed to wire the money but took another $350 to close the account. Plus a wire fee. I have never heard of such a high fee to close an account, but that is what I was told when I questioned it!!!!!! I tried to accelerate my issues during this process, but never received a return call from the vp. I'm closing the rest of my accounts, but I did used to really swear by this bank. They shut my account down do to fraud. I only use this account for direct deposit and then I transfer it out into another account. I moved from McHenry to Georgia so I say what do we do I don't line in state anymore. Most banks would issue you another card and mail it out. The lady in the phone harrases me asks me why I moved. Not sure why the questions. Judt mail me out a card is not my fault someone hacked my account. I have to wait to speak to a supervisor. She finally calls back. Closes my account. They are very rude and not very professional here. I will be calling corporate on them! read more

Worst bank in McHenry County. My wife has had an account at Home State Bank for over 10 years - we have had our business account with them for the past 5. However today when I went to cash a check from our business made out to my wife, with both our signatures on it, Home State would not cash it because they did not have my wife signature on file. Bullshit, when we open our business account they took my wife signature and mine to put on file, they even took one of our employee's signatures to keep on file. Also this branch, along with the other one on rt31 at 4401 Prime Parkway have the worst drive through of any bank I've ever been to. I do the deposits for our business there at least once a week - on "average" it takes 10-15 minutes to do one or two deposits. It once, and I am not kidding here, took over 30 minutes to do a deposit. The girl doing the deposit claimed she was looking for an error on a check she saw when scanning them into her computer - that I was then later apologized to by her for there never being an error in the first place. If you can avoid this branch at all costs please do so - it will mess with your mental sanity. The managers and staff here don't care about you - they only seem to care about your money and how much you have of it. If you do bank with Home State, use their branch in Crystal Lake. For some odd reason their 100 times better and more efficient than the ones in McHenry. read more

Worst service ever. Got here at 3:15 and lobby was closed. Had to deposit coins. It took 20 minutes. They left me standing in the lobby and never said another word. After 20 minutes I knocked on the Libby door to find out what's is going on? Girl finally came and said oh it takes awhile to count the coins. Well do u think u could tell people what to expect or maybe show your face every now and then? Literally 20 minutes without seeing a soul! read more

The only thing that is keeping me at this bank is free checking and its a hassle to switch banks! Two times this bank has locked me out of my debit card at gas stations on the weekends! It is a smaller bank and they don't have 24-7 customer service. Also they are so late on my payday to release my funds to me! It is always between 8am and 9am. I asked them about this problem and they told me it's my employer not them. I later contacted my employer and learned it is in fact Home State Bank that is releasing my funds at that late time. Stay away from this bank! You're better off paying a fee to use a big bank like Chase! read more

I get a letter in the mail from a collections agency saying that I owe Homestate Bank $495. I closed my account back in May. When I closed my account, the teller handed me whatever money I had left in my account and told me it would be closed. It turns out the teller gave me more money back than my account had in it ($30). Not sure how this happens at a bank. Because he did this, when the bank caught on to it, they made my account negative $30. They said they cannot close an account that's in the negative. Instead of letting me know about the mistake right away, they left my account open for three months with a negative balance and after all of the fees, it got up to $495. They never sent an email, letter, or text. Which ironically they would do if I was still using the bank. Then they had the nerve to send me to collections. When I called the bank, they proceeded to tell me that I should've called to verify that the account was closed and this wasn't their fault. read more
