A Breach of Trust Disguised as Hospitality My visit to Home Kingdom was marked by misleading signage, dismissive treatment, and a concerning absence of basic respect. The store displays a prominent American Express welcome sign, yet when I attempted to pay with Amex, the owner scoffed and said, "Didn't you read the sign?" I replied, "Why would I? You have an Amex logo right there." She pointed to a hastily taped-over Mastercard logo, an attempt at correction that borders on false advertising--or at the very least, deceptive practice. Already wearing the elastic bracelets I intended to purchase (which are difficult to remove without breaking), I explained I needed to grab my wallet from my truck and asked if I could return to pay. Rather than responding with basic decency, she replied coldly, "I don't know you." I said, "And now I don't trust you either--see how that works?" I left my phone as collateral, returned quickly, and paid in cash. To top it all off, the irony of a large sign near the entrance reading "Remember, as far as anyone knows, we're a nice normal family" was not lost on me. It's hard to laugh when that kind of messaging is used to cover for behavior that is, frankly, the opposite. A curated facade can only hide so much--what's beneath matters more. This was my first and final visit. Trust, once broken, is not easily repaired--and Home Kingdom made no effort to try. read more

Oh, help me, I'm struggling here. I LOVED this shop; it's basically the theme of my entire house (beach everything). I could have walked around here for hours, but I had a ferry to catch and didn't have a lot of time. I had taken a few photos while I was there, since I loved everything so much, but I was "caught" and told not to photograph anything since it "doesn't pay the bills," I apologized and continued shopping, but I guess I didn't turn off the camera off on my phone and I was again scolded. I don't get it. Photos should be a "free" marketing tool that draws in additional people instead of turning them away. This "policy" makes no sense at all. I still purchased two items, a beach-themed sign, and a bracelet. When I explained my experience to my friend who was across the street listening to a concert at the brewery, he questioned why I didn't walk out without purchasing anything. He had a good point, I am a consumer, and if I want to take photos, I should be able to, and it only helps their business. I'm perplexed. This place has a lot going for it. They need to drop their no photos policy, and I think everyone will be happier. If their whole "no photo policy" wasn't a thing, this would have been a 4 or 5-star review. Because of it, I can't go above a 2-star review. Sorry. In fairness, I have photos from the store but I'm not posting them, but I still hope this "policy" changes. read more

My boyfriend and I came to Port Jefferson to see if we can find anything good at Home Kingdom. The minute we walked in there was a woman with a scowl on her face and a man sitting outside with a dog. Like many of other bad reviews, she just looked at us with her RBF, and said nothing to us. When I turned the corner I even saw her looking at my bf up and down scanning his tattoos... in this time of cultural and racial tension, it just left a bad taste in our mouths, so when we went to the other side I said out loud so she can hear, " The people here are pretty friendly" sarcastically. As we were exiting, I turned to see her say something to the man and his dog with the nastiest look on her face, probably about us. It is so unfortunate that these businesses still are in existence. The store looked pretty desolate and dead. DO NOT stop by this store, doesn't even deserve a star. read more

Incredibly rude woman scolded my wife and I for taking a photo of an item for a relative's birthday. Would have bought the item had we not be scolded. We immediately left and purchased nothing. read more

I've never felt more unwelcome walking into a store before. Don't take your phone out of your pocket here because they will scream at you assuming you're taking a picture. Horrible rude. read more

i would give this place a 0 if I could. Owners are a miserable couple. Approached store with a face covering, was told it wasn't "good Enough" and denied entry. Explained I have breathing issues. Didn't matter, no compassion or sympathy. I live in the village and have spent hundreds of dollars there. I will never shop there again. read more

These people really shouldn't own a business. From the second I walked in the man stood by the door and watched me look around. Then once I was out of his view, the woman came by and pretended to be "straightening things up" and then proceeded to follow me around the store. Agree with the previous comments. The owners are a crabby couple. They do not greets their custoners. The wife was sitting behind the counter rolling her eyes huffing a puffing the whole time. We have been in there twice and both times they were just cold. My husband was looking to purchase one of their lighthouses and the husband told him to make a decision because they were closing. These people are a bunch of jerks! The other reviewer was correct. The couple that owns that store are nothing but pair of married, miserable people. I was going to buy something in the future in that store for my sister's birthday and didn't want to forget, so I was going to take a picture of it. Both owner's (a man and woman) screamed fervently, "No pictures!". I said to my family let's get out of here these people are rude and the man proceeds to follow me to the door. He said, "Don't you see the picture on the door?!". My reply to him, was that I didn't and he could have said so a lot nicer to his customers. Do NOT patronize this place!! I went there recently and I thought the dog that they had behind the counter was cute - until it took a shit on the sales floor. After I said "OMG, there's dog shit on the floor!", the grumpy woman came out to pick it up with paper towel and cleaner, and blamed it on a previous customer. Disgusting!! Not only are these people overpriced, but also very rude. I will never buy anything there again. If they had a rating of 0, I surely would have given them that. These people suck. read more

TOTALLY AGREE with previous reviews. Visiting Port Jefferson and stopped into Home Kingdom to take a look around. Saw something I thought my friend would love and wanted to send a picture to them. I pulled out my phone and "NO PICTURES" was yelled at us. As an MBA and former buyer/ manager of a major retailer, the treatment we received at this shop was puzzling and shocking. In many other stores, employees have even moved or held items so I could get a better picture. I often send pictures to family and friends to see if they want me to pick something up for them. I told the shop owner this was my intention and she insisted that she has bought for the store for years and never taken pictures. WHAT? A customer should never be spoken to In this manner. This is the most hostile retail environment we have ever encountered, so we left and will never return. So many shops and online options for similar items. Don't waste your time or money here. People will never forget how you make them feel. read more
