Home Instead was extremely helpful in helping me coordinate and relocate my mother in law (97 yrs old) from a Rehab facility in the Bay Area to a home in Sherman Oaks, Ca. I called Home Instead Senior Care in Sherman Oaks when my mom needed a caregiver. They were very reliable, and they made sure the caregiver was a perfect fit with my mom. My mother had mild dementia and rarely likes anyone helping her, let alone in her house, but her caregiver was so sweet and kind and felt part of the family. She brightened up my mother's life and I felt comfortable that my mom had a companion with her, helping her. The manager would also do occasional visits to the house to make sure things were going well with my mom and her caregiver. We contacted Home Instead in Sherman Oaks when our mother was diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer's Disease. We were looking for a professional yet caring company to help us get her some companion care as well as to be "on call" when or if we ever needed 24-7 care in an emergency. Home Instead's team (Jim and Cherisse) hit the mark on all accounts, finding her a wonderful companion to help with shopping and getting her exercise and simple companionship as well as when we needed emergency care for when her primary cargiver became injured (had someone for her within 12 hours). CAUTION - ALERT - DO NOT USE. I had a very bad experience with Home Instead and suggest you do not use them. My mother, age 88 and living alone, needs help with the activities of daily living. She has Congestive Heart Failure and a serious lung disease which requires her to require an oxygen tank 24 hours a day. I signed a contract and arranged for Home Instead to come into my mother's home.On Day 1 I stopped by to meet the caretake and make sure all was going smoothly. The day was good however, on Day 2 my mother was not feeling well and sent the caretaker home when she arrived. The agency did not call me to notify me of this. I assumed my mother was being taken care of as we had arranged. When I stopped by at 2:30 she was completely alone, sitting on the couch in her robe and had not yet eaten! While I was at work, thinking she was being tended to, she was actually alone. Can you imagine what could have happened.
