I was really looking forward to added support as I knew our journey ahead was going to be challenging. Unfortunately, not even Lumina knows what is meant by palliative care. Each time we had a need, I would contact them and they'd say, "oh we don't do that. But call us we are here to help 24/7." Problem was they could not define what it was they were there to help with. They also kept referring to my mom as being in "hospice" and we are not there yet, that's why we signed up for "Palliative" care. Honestly during the month we worked with them trying to figure out what they could do for us- the only thing I figured out was that they were supposed to keep us from using the ER for services. So at this point "palliative " care must mean, "make sure we keep that person out of the hospital/ER" aka cut costs so they get paid. Very disappointed!

I wish it were possible to give zero or negative stars…read more Anyone thinking of moving into Brookdale Geary Street - or any Brookdale property - should first read the Washington Post article that details dangerous staffing conditions as a result of Brookdale's staffing algorithm. The algorithm leaves facilities perennially short-staffed, which is what we have experienced during our loved one's nearly two years at this facility. There are wonderful caregivers, servers, cooks, receptionists, and other staff at this facility. Unfortunately, they usually leave within a few months of hire. They must be worn down by a staffing plan that asks them to do more than is humanly possible to provide the care needed by residents. Many days, you will see temp agency staffers roaming the halls, instead of Brookdale employees. Given the complex needs of residents in Assisted Living facilities, having people who know your loved one and know their needs is so important. In contrast to our appreciation of Brookdale staff, we were consistently frustrated by the rotating door of administrators who provided leadership for the facility . There have been about 7 executive directors or interim directors across two years. These folks would often duck and almost run into their office, rather than talk to residents and loved ones. Even though the care plan detailed how often our loved one's apartment should be cleaned and how often she would get shower help, it was not unusual to go weeks before services were rendered. We would consistently need to 'fill in' for lack of care, which is very different than the pitch they give you ('Wouldn't you like to go back to being a family member, rather than caregiver?' Why, yes, we would. But Brookdale's inability to deliver on contracted services made this impossible.) You can search the facility's history with the state of Oregon. They were recently barred from moving in new residents from late April through early September 2024, because they could not pass state inspections.

If you have other options, do not placed your loved one here…read more We removed my father as soon as possible after he experienced a drastic change in condition days after being admitted. Brookdale could not provide the staffing levels to provide him the care he needed. He was not bathed or groomed and my family had to step in and provide 24/7 1:1 care for him until we informed the Long-Term Care Ombudsman and got licensing involved. This facility cannot provide a safe level of staffing or the bare minimum support for ADLs required by the state. If this is your only option, you must consistently be an advocate for your loved one. Get every decision from them in writing, including changes in care plan. You should receive advance notice of this change in care plan. We did not. Involve the Long-Term Care Ombudsman if they are causing harm and placing your loved one at risk.

She suffers from dementia and can't remember anything. The staff there didn't ensure she took her medications and were nowhere to be found when needed. A week after we admitted her, we came to visit and as soon as we entered the lock down area of the facilities we found my mom laying down, shivering on a small bench in the middle of the hallway with no one attending to her. We then went into her room that she was assigned, her bag and belongings were missing and staff wasn't aware of its location. They later found it while we were there sitting behind a coach in the common area. We had previously asked if they could provide her with a blanket until we could return with one, which they agreed to, but upon arrival had never provided. We then reached out to talk with the med tech about her prescriptions, but she was nowhere to be found constantly going on smoke breaks. When she did return, we had to follow her around the facilities to get answers because she didn't take the time to stop and talk to us. The staff that was feeding them while there would just throw down their food in front of them and seemed put out when asked what they were eating. It gets worse, when leaving one night after visiting, we found the staff changing tenants there with the windows open so anyone could see in, unbelievable. My mom was in this place for only 2 weeks, only long enough until we could find another facility. Upon talking to management when she left, they admitted that their staff needed more training and they were going "have a talk with them". When asked if they could provide a discount for such a poor experience for my mom, the manager said they would ask their board and was told no. So not only did we get charged a non-refundable deposit during move in, my mom was also charged for her 2 weeks there and another 30 days after departure per their terms. In all, the incredibly terrible experience cost her over $10,000.

My partner and I visited Sarahs Place after the recommendation of the ER in Lincoln city. We took a…read morehospital paid cab over 70 miles to reach this destination.We were both abducted from our apartment and sexually assaulted during a period of time amounting to almost two months, being drugged and having our online accounts and phones hacked so we could not communicate. The Sarahs Place women, Karyn and Tamarah, seemed to take us seriously and listened to the factual events we described. Then, they sent us to the ER for further treatment, promising us a bed to lie down in for my injured back, an injury exacerbated by the series of assaults, as well as further treatment for my partners head injuries, also sustained in the attacks. We waited for six hours in the lobby and then were finally seen. Well, not really, they refused to offer us treatment at all, and stuck us in an extremely dirty room with no bed, human feces all over the floor, and even a dead spider, after I pointed out the filth, and even told them I was immune deficient and prone to illness due to my lack of spleen. They then kicked us out to the lobby, having not even looked at us at all. Then we were told to wait for our cab back to the coast, and began waiting for another couple hours. At this point, an older blonde woman brought her pit bull near us after having heard we were afraid of dogs...due to the fact we had both just been viciously attacked by dogs in our series of assaults. The woman in question began screaming slurs at me loudly and aggressively. I ran away and began begging her to please leave us alone, quietly. A man claiming to be a guard then entered the building, and told us we were no longer patients there, and wouldhave to leave before morning. Thing is, we were 70 miles away from our hotel with no vehicle and it was 3 or 4 in the morning and freezing cold, pitch black. We told him as much, he then insisted we go into the chapel and be silent, isolating us there and not allowing us to charge our phones. Mine was at 5% and we did not have money for a 70 mile uber ride. I was lucky enough to be able to contact a friend and he paid for an uber, at which point the man claiming to be a guard followed us out into the dark and beganharassing us to leave. Luckily enough, the uber showed up just as the man claiming to be a guard left and disappeared into the night. We were lucky to escape Sarahs Place with our lives, after wed been so hopeful for support and healing. On our second visit today, we offered them more information pertaining to the assaults, and got tested for various STIs. The Sarahs Place women refused to offer any additional support for housing or safety, and were dismissive at best, leaving us to figure out being made homeless by ourselves. Never come here, for the sake of your safety.
