It's a "must visit" whenever I'm in Richmond. The owners are wonderful and are the epitome of the practice of "southern hospitality." Totally incompetent employees! I decided to stop into the Richmond Ollie's while my husband was…read moregetting a haircut nearby. I selected 2 coloring books and thought that I was going to be done in a few minutes because there were only a couple of people in line ahead of me. The elderly cashier kept having trouble with the register. I first thought that it was just a system issue, but the elderly cashier eventually blurted out that she had not been properly trained on the register and did not know how to use it. By that time, I had been in line for about 15 minutes. Instead of calling a supervisor for help, the elderly cashier kept fruitlessly pecking at the register trying to get it to work. My husband texted me to tell me that he was finished, so I put the coloring books on a display near the register and attempted to walk out. The elderly cashier saw me and threw a total tantrum about how I should put the coloring books back where I got them from. I told her that the situation was her fault, so an employee should put them back. I also told her that the last time that I stocked books at an Ollie's store was for a brief month of employment at an Ollie's store in the northeast over 20 years ago when I was trying to pay the bills before I got a much higher paying job at a bank call center, and I sure as heck was not going to do my old job for free. She still balked at me, but I then told her that I now have a master's degree and that the only way that I would put the books back was if the store paid me my current hourly wage of $30 an hour. I was so mad at her that I almost flipped her the bird as I walked out. Ollie's was bad 20 years ago, and it has gotten even worse as the company has expanded.

I didn't really notice any higher end brand names, but maybe I am out of the loop. The prices seemed ridiculous, but then affordable with all the steep sales. Shopping gave me anxiety because I didn't know what I could actually afford to buy. I grabbed a cute outfit for my daughter and it was listed at $69!!! For pants and a blouse! But then was 60% off at $27. More affordable but really still a bit pricey. I would probably shop there again but not regularly. The bathrooms were terrible. Some weird stuff all over the doors, the paper towel dispensers were broken. The toilet paper dispenser was broken and the dust on the vent had to be an inch thick. The prices Vs that bathroom did not match up.

Lowes says that they have delivery installers that are trained. I don't believe that's true. They…read moresent two installers out last week neither of which spoke English. They had no idea what to do and told me to hire a plumber to come out and disconnect the refrigerator and washing machine and then they would come back and reconnect my new appliances. So I was forced to pay $79 for a five minute service call to ask a professional plumber to disconnect my two appliances. That was ridiculous. I asked Lowes to reimburse me for $79 and they finally agreed to a $40 gift card to be used at Lowe's. if they're just gonna give their store gift cards they should reimburse the entire $79. I would never purchase any other appliance from Lowe's that needs to be installed by their installers. I will say that the second time they came out I did request different installers and they were much better. Lowes told me their policy was at least one person would speak English when they send out installers so Lowes violated their own policy last week by sending out two people who did not speak one word of English. They just kept talking into their phone and then pointing the phone in my direction via a translation app. The guy kept saying he was afraid to disconnect the appliances because he was afraid my house would flood. The professional plumbers that came out to disconnect said that there were no problems with disconnecting either and he should've been able to easily do it. I still want Lowes to pay me the other $40 that I'm due because they sent an untrained incompetent installer, which was a service that I paid for.

Oops I did it again!…read more I love antique clocks (and antique/ vintage items in general) even though I dont have anywhere to put them all out in my house, but yesterday, I picked up this beautiful antique mahogany clock. I believe that it may be a Junghans German shelf clock. (Possibly a "Biedermeier style"?) clock with a dark reddish mahogany case and a beveled glass door. It has a wonderful deep toned strike on the hour and half hour. I found this gem at Second & Main and it's sister store Apparitions Vintage Village which is owned by an old high school friend Robin Sowers.
