Unfortunately, in California, caregivers are not allowed to administer morphine or insert suppositories for pain control so that fell to the family members. However, our caregivers provided loving care and kept my mom safe prior to her becoming bedridden. However, she needs assistance with doing household chores, and needs to be reminded to use her medical breathalyzers. Although I remain quite agile and perform many of the chores either with her or on my own, I treat her as though she is free of those ailments, by allowing her to do whatever she can and wishes to do. It works for us. When the time came to request help from her long term health care company we discovered The Key. The first few aides could not commit to long term assignments and that turned out to be a blessing. The Key's representative, Sara P., listened intently as we both described what we needed and wanted. She sent Leann, who made my wife light up like a 65 year old, and they hit it off immediately.
