On Friday, June 14, 2024, I toured Serenity Villa with a client of mine, a potential resident. We were shown two available private rooms and agreed to take one and move in on June 20. On 6/18 12:39 PM Maritza (staff) texted to say the room was no longer available for my client. She said Allie could go into a shared space though. I was on vacation so didn't see this text. On 6/19 at 9:59 AM, I called the owner of Serenity Villa, Aida, who said they chose to phone a person who had toured a couple of months ago to let them know someone expressed interest in the room. Apparently that motivated that old lead to hustle over and put down a deposit. The room was given to that person instead of my client! I expressed to Aida that we were very disappointed to lose the room as the caregiver for the potential resident was leaving the state on 6/22 for a two-month period and we were now in a bind to find a new place with one day's notice. She said, "This is a business." I told her I thought reneging was very unprofessional and unethical. She didn't seem to care. She offered a shared room, but my client has not shared a room since college and said no thank you. I suggested to Aida that perhaps the person they gave the private room to could take the shared room instead for two months, and then after my client left, take the private room. Aida was not interested in this arrangement. I was angry at this switch and commented to Aida that she had not even apologized for the change. She didn't think she needed to since "this is a business" and they can do what they wish. FYI: According to the licensing agency for care homes, Community Care Licensing, this building has five type A citations. An "A" citation "is for the most serious type of violation in which there is an immediate risk to the health, safety of personal rights of those in care."

Caregivers were…read moresupposed to log in on the tablet that was left at the house and fill out a form stating what was performed. Some caregivers never even filled it out. MANY TIMES, when it WAS filled out, it would say things like: made lunch, changed litter box, wiped down kitchen countertop. That's it? A 3 hr shift and this is all you did??? Just didn't feel we got our money's worth on most shifts. There were a few times the caregiver would show up 10-20 minutes late. One time, the caregiver went home 45 min. early because the patient told her to leave. Caregiver did not follow procedure and call the office from patient's house. Just left and called her manager once she was gone. Patient needed to be sure his wound was cleaned each day while the caregiver supervised on how to have him do it himself. It needed to be done daily and there were a few times the caregiver did not have the patient clean his wound - which was VERY important (and one reason WHY we hired help). When one of the patients was being discharged from a rehabilitation center via the caregiver, the discharge papers with prescription information never made it home (these were important papers!). Overall, would NEVER recommend this agency!

MaiFiji Home Care LLC…read more The caregivers assigned to my husband's 24-hour care in March 2020 were very good. They were caring and efficient and seemed to be well trained. That being said, I have no issue with the care he received. My issue is with the lack of transparency with how the fees are collected. The quote they gave me the day before my husband was to be discharged from the hospital, was that my charge would be $20 per hour. I was also told they do not take credit cards, so I was ready with a check for the first week in advance ($3360). The first I saw of their "Client Agreement" was the day of discharge minutes before my husband was ready to leave the hospital. The transport ambulance EMTs were there, ready to move him. I was given the Client Agreement to sign, and was told that I was also to pay an extra $3360 for a "Placement Fee which is a one time fee charged for every new client and is equivalent to one week of the Caregivers pay and paid once we place the Caregiver on the case." At no time in the days previous was I informed of this extra charge. Had I known beforehand, I might have gone with a different service whose rates were slightly higher, but included all charges. The person who handled all of this, Elena (Helen), was my contact with the administration, and the person who gave me the quote and subsequently, the Client Agreement, and collected my check in the amount of $6720. A few days later I called to ask her why the "fee" was not discussed prior to the presentation of the Agreement. She actually yelled at me asking why I was "kicking up a fuss" and continued to tell me I should "talk to Ili about your 'judgements'." She repeated this in an email she sent the next day apologizing for being "rude and yelling". This was not very professional, nor was it something I appreciated with my husband very ill and in Hospice care. After my husband's passing 3 1/2 weeks later, I was told my invoices would not be submitted to the insurance company until I paid the last 1/2 week owing. It was a very stressful time, but I hand delivered the check to her to facilitate the timely submission of the claim.

The owners and the people who work there are truly caring and supportive. They provide home cooked meals daily and cater to everyone's needs. They provide 24 hour care too. The home is always clean and the residents always seem happy. I am so glad that we chose this home for my Mother to live out the last years of her life.
