Lengthy threads on money-related web forums have arisen on the subject of Home Bargains and the bargains within, and with good reason. This is a shop that stocks all sorts of stuff at bargain prices. Toys, toiletries, food, household goods - often top quality branded items at knockdown prices.
There's a load of staple items that you'll always find in store - but they constantly get new deliveries, and that's where the fun starts. You never know quite what you're going to find. Many of the new finds are placed at the beginning of the first aisle as you enter the store - but others are cunningly hidden throughout the shop, so it's important to go down each aisle just in case. In addition, not all stores get the same items - so it can be nail-biting trying to find that elusive item you've read about on a web forum. One downside of all this is that it's difficult to go armed with a shopping list - and you always end up buying more than you'd intended.
The Hillsborough store is fairly standard as far as Home Bargains stores go. Unlike some other Home Bargains stores they do stock alcohol, though as there is no parking at the store, it's best to take someone with strong arms if you intend to stock up on booze - or try the Sheffield Parkway store.
It does get very busy and for some reason this store does tend to attract people who like to barge past you in the aisles and reach across you to get stuff without an 'excuse me' or a 'sorry'. The queues at the tills can be long and slow, and the staff often seem to be grumpier than most. This aside, I'm prepared for the extra wait and the extra miserable staff just to get my hands on all those lovely bargains! read more
