The park is about five acres and is home to many events from music festivals, skating parties and more. It's also next to the Bloomfield Bridge and a lot of events happen under the bridge as well. It's all on the same city property. There's a bocce court (of course!) and a skate area for dek hockey, skateboarding, roller skating, roller blading, etc. There are skate ramps under the bridge. The park has a baseball field and basketball courts along with a playground. Areas for picnics. The park brings together people of all ages for various events not just from the neighborhood but from others as well. It's a place that connects everyone whether through swimming, skating, ball playing, or rocking out to cool local bands. The park & pool are absolute gems. Makes us Bloomfielders proud to be yinzers!

Enjoyed walking around Hunter Park on a beautiful day. Walked around the neighborhood as well and…read morefelt safe in the general area. When I arrived there was a free food bin next to the sign, which was a considerate touch. It even had dried beans, which are important nutritionally. The park has two really nice fenced-in basketball courts that looked almost brand new and were surprisingly empty at the time. There were also several young children hanging out at the nearby playground having a blast on the pretty impressive zip line, the swings, and the climbing wall. There was also a cool picnic area with both shaded and sunny seating, along with a nice set of bleachers across from the basketball courts where one could comfortably enjoy a meal. There are also two large yellow slides mounted into the hillside that are pretty cool. I had a surprisingly fun time sliding down them even as a full-sized adult. If you go up Coal Street from that side of the park, there is also a really nice walking or running trail that forms a loop around a baseball field. About half of it is shaded while the other half is in the sun. What I really appreciated was the abundance of benches throughout both areas of the park and the multiple trash cans, although not all of them appeared fully functional. I could not find any toilets, and the fountain near the trash cans by the playground does not turn on even though it's May. However, there is a Family Dollar and a Save A Lot nearby where you can use the restrooms or buy a drink within about a 5-10 minute walk or run away.

We went to the 5th annual chalk fest on Isabella St near Allegheny Landing…read more It was absolutely fantastic. We have gone for several years and loved it every time. The level of artistry and connection to Pittsburgh and pop culture increases yearly. Adults and kids alike absolutely love it. There were nods to famous athletes this year like baseball great Bill Mazerovski. Andy Warhol, our most well known artist, was featured in two creative works. The giant duck reappeared in person and in art this year with a creative piece by the water. We also saw Jeff Goldbloom and Noah Wylie whose mother was from Pittsburgh. There were also other animal and pop culture icons used in the other pieces. I also liked that kids could draw on the sidewalk and come up with their own artistic creations. They were also out enjoying the water steps nearby. That's when you know summer is near. When you come to Allegheny Landing, you see so many great city and water views. We took some amazing pics.

They planted native plants and created a rain garden. The park was once the site of the annual WYEP concert, which has since moved to a larger space at Schenley Plaza. I also find a lot of Pokemon players here, it's quite a hotspot for that.

Brentwood Park is really a lot for such a small footprint…read more The abundance of amenities packed into this park is what makes it unique and also helps justify the very spacious parking lot, which can fill up quickly during games and events. Because of that, it can definitely help to come earlier rather than later in the day, especially during the school year and especially with the entire park closing at 6 pm. This park is rich with things for children and families to get involved with, including a hockey rink, tennis court, and basketball court directly behind the library. Then there's a corn hole setup, a hotel-sized pool, a rec center, and a combo soccer and football stadium with track and field around the perimeter behind that, complete with additional bathrooms nearby. At the far end are four baseball fields with yet another bathroom building, not to mention the very new and very cool playground meant for very small children near the baseball fields. There are also abundant picnic tables placed both in the sun and in the shade where you can grab a bite to eat while enjoying the infrastructure supporting such a wide range of athletic interests in the student body. Multiple grills and plenty of trash cans also make it a great place to enjoy grilled food without worrying about cleanup. Another perk is how close this park is to Brentwood Library, which has spacious and clean family bathrooms with "flow-friendly" amenities including free tampons and pads, a baby changing station, and a free water bottle refill station. You can also use the free fountain or grab a few free books there as well. On top of that, there are additional bathrooms near both the football field and baseball fields, which really helps considering how spread out the park amenities are. The only thing I feel a bit disappointed about regarding the recent renovation is that, even with all the upgrades, they now only have one tennis court while still having four baseball fields. I do realize that reflects the child-centric nature of the park, as does the smaller pool and playground, but I still miss those tennis courts. Another downside is the entire park closing at 6 pm, which feels pretty early considering how much infrastructure and recreational space is packed into the area. In the end, it almost feels like the public park is viewed more as a service connected to the public school system rather than simply a park for everyone.

The parking lot is along Agnew Road in Baldwin, and there are lots of primitive roads and trails for hiking and birdwatching. One hundred 48 species of birds have been reported thus far. The most famous residents were the Hays Eagles, which last year moved across the river to Hazelwood. Bird Lab has banded more than 64 species of birds at Hays Woods, and this is an exciting project to study birds. There's a trash can and a porta-potty near the front entrance, but there aren't any farther along the trails, so keep that in mind before heading out. Every time I come here, I discover more of what makes Hays Woods such a hidden gem. The main trail continues farther than I've explored so far, and I look forward to continuing to walk farther and farther to see if I can eventually make it the entire length of the main trail. You can walk for quite a while on the main trail and enjoy a nice variety of sunny and shaded sections. Another thing I really like is that this trail doesn't seem to get nearly as much foot traffic as some of the more popular trails around Pittsburgh, so it can feel peaceful and secluded. The main trail is well graveled, so it fares a little better in the rain than many other trails. There are also numerous side trails branching off the main trail, and each one has its own character. Some of the side trails can get muddy, grassy, or overgrown, so they aren't all consistently maintained, but the main trail is pretty well maintained. Overall, this is a great place to explore with a group of people, especially if you enjoy discovering new trails and having a little bit of that "lost in the woods" feeling without actually leaving the city. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back and exploring more!

What a beautiful installation to bring events to the community!…read more We attended the South Park Community Day 2026 at the South Park Fairgrounds and the community is very fortunate to have such a dedicated space for events. Even with a huge crowd, parking was simple. Plenty of lots span the entire hillside in easy to navigate and newly made parking lots. With sidewalks and staircases to the event area, the parking is fully accessible for all. The fairgrounds have multiple soccer fields and baseball fields for youth sports but also a dedicated building for indoor setups and a bathroom facility.. that is reminiscent of an olden campground but with full flushing toilets. The event space is huge and there were vendors everywhere for the Community Day. We will definitely look at the calendar of events and come to more out here!
