Heard a lot of hype about this place, so I was excited to finally check it out. We came just before happy hour ended (around 5:30), and while a few items were $1 off (fine, not life-changing), the $5 margaritas were the real win--honestly, really good. Food-wise...mixed feelings. We ordered crunchy tacos, street corn, chips and salsa, beans, and rice. Flavor was there, but everything leaned very salty--like "why are my hands swollen 45 minutes later" salty. Not ideal. Bill landed around $50 before tip, which felt reasonable for what we got. Service was solid--friendly and attentive. They've got a nice outdoor setup, but heads up: you're basically dining with a side of exhaust fumes. Lots of traffic, lots of engine noise, not exactly relaxing. Overall: great margaritas, decent price, good service--but the food and atmosphere didn't totally live up to the hype. read more

So, I'm gonna give this place 3 stars because, although the food is good here, the service is pretty bad. My server was Kaylen (not sure how you spell her name), and she was standing at the bar when I was trying to get her attention to ask who I should place an order with, since no one had checked on my table (I was sitting in a booth right next to the bar), and she rudely said it would be her and told me that she would be coming over. When she finally did take my order, her attitude was terrible, she barely made eye contact, and she tried to snatch the menu when walking away. Her whole energy gave off "I don't want to be here". She shouting work in a service industry if she is not going to be warm and friendly. She made me feel so uncomfortable. She didn't check on my table one time, and when I asked for some hot sauce, she brought me a little dish with hot sauce in it and didn't tell me that it would be an extra charge. She's lucky I didn't have smaller change, because if I did, I wouldn't have tipped her at all. I hope Holy Taco trains their staff better so they can improve on their customer service skills. Holy Taco = Holy Yum! We had a wonderful dinner at Holy Taco. We always appreciate a restaurant that has a legit kids's menu. My kids loved their food which as parents its a win! Each kid meal also includes a kid's beverage as well. The only thing I would skip was the salsa holy flight- the salsa were mediocre/blah. Would not order the salsa flight again. We visited Holy Taco recently and had a very good experience overall. At first, there was a longer-than-expected wait before our order was taken, but once the staff realized the oversight, they sincerely made it up to us, which we appreciated. The food was excellent -- the tacos were delicious, flavorful, and there was a great variety to choose from. You can tell they put real effort into the quality of the ingredients and preparation. For years we have visited the downtown Lake Oswego area and noticed the Holy Taco on 1st street. We were in town and decided to participate in the tree lighting event. As we finished our initial event we noticed that Holy Taco had a short wait, after 20 min in line we were seating in a booth near the bar and kitchen area. The interior is nicely decorated with large and small booths, they have ample outdoor seating and a long bar top where you can have a drink or enjoy a meal. The staff was very friendly, everyone from the main greeter to the service staff. Our order was taking quickly. As you look through the menu they have some typical Mexican dishes, many tacos options to choose from as well as Nachos and Enchiladas. One of our favorite items that we tried was the chips, guacamole and salsa. The chips seem to be freshly made, with an ample serving of guacamole and a very authentic homemade salsa. The three of us snacked on this until our main dishes were served. We also ordered the tinga chicken nachos, the were loaded with plenty of cheese, tinga chicken, chips, salsa, guacamole, pico and beans, we top that off with three different tacos on their home made tortillas, I would share that the tortillas were tasty but they did not hold support the amount of protein that the tacos were served with, either way they were amazing, we ordered the Stone Free, Braised Beef, chipotle mayo and a coconut shaving, good tasting beef, we also had the The Dirty Bird, fried chicken, lettuce, Chipotle mayo, Pico and honey, hummy, the final taco was the Lime in the Coconut Shrimp taco, it was ok the shrimp were a little over done but nothing the salsa could not cover up. The meal was a little spending but worth the taste, we would recommend a try, they have a lot of other dishes that we look forward to experiencing, its a really nice setting for the restaurant, I cannot wait to enjoy it in the summer. read more

The inside is nicely decorated and there is some seating out front. They were pretty busy, the host wasn't super welcoming, but our waitress was really nice. We got the chips and salsa to start. Pretty good, but nothing special. I got the chicken tinga and the pork taco. Both tacos were flavorful, the pork was probably my favorite out of the two. The best thing I got was the passionfruit lime drink! I think there are better places for mexican, but definitely a nice area for lunch. read more

The service is slow and as you can see from this photograph no one bothers to clean the restaurant. Dust everywhere and no one seems to care. The front of the house and the servers are young which can be an advantage but not here. That's not their fault it's the ownership group and management who are not properly training people. After completing our meal we had two dishes that we wanted to take home with us. The server throws down the boxes and asks us to box everything up. Again not their fault, a decision made by a management team who seems unsure of what excellent customer service. May I kindly suggest they spend some time over at Canards in Oregon City where service is outstanding and the restaurant space is spotless. The good news is the food at Holy Taco is good and we throughly enjoyed our meal. Service was slow but the food would make a trip back worth it but I am cautious about doing so because when a restaurant ownership group doesn't care to even dust off the mantles or clean the mirrors I would be afraid to checkout the kitchen. read more

I always rate places based on my current experience. I have been here several times over the year but lunch yesterday was especially good. Went to the farmer's market with a friend and stopped here for lunch. We ordered the pork carnitas burrito with coconut sauce and the enchiladas with chicken Tinga. Both were ample portions. The burrito was delicious and the coconut sauce was a great and different twist. You can't really taste the pineapple which was good because I don't really like pineapple. The enchiladas were served on a bed of seasoned rice. My friend reported that it was the best enchiladas she had ever had. Service was good and our food came out surprisingly fast. We ordered pick up for a birthday party. Uncharacteristically, we had to wait for our order an additional 20-30 minutes. Today, for instance, I ordered the Pescado Taco (fish taco), Lime in the Coconut Taco (spicy coconut shrimp) & the Holy Fajita Bowl. Everything was finger-licking good! Tried to have dinner here last night, ordered nachos with shredded beef. Waiter let me know they were out of beef and named all the items that weren't available that had beef which was almost half the menu. Asked what the taco of the moment is and the waiter told us it was pork belly but they are out of that also. With the half the menu unavailable our party ordered a taco each, 1 round of drinks and street corn. The drinks were fine, the tacos were ok, the corn tasted like they opened a can of corn, torched as seen on the internet and sprinkled Everything but the Elote seasoning from Tader Joes on it. Horrific service. We enjoy the area & restaurant variety, but will not go back here. If you enjoy entitled children with an attitude serving you, this is the place. If you talk to the manager and they side with the children, you know you have a company wide problem. I feel bad for the owner who probably doesn't know their staff repels customers. More places should follow in the footsteps of this place, as it was hopping mid-week for lunch, and I am sure I am not the only one that appreciated the vegan menu. I had the vegan Bulgogi Burrito. As someone who considers themselves a taco connoisseur -- especially in a city like Portland with heavy hitters like Porque No Taqueria -- I have to say these tacos fell short in nearly every way. No matter what else was in the taco, I always ended up chewing on tortilla last. It didn't melt into the mix; it dragged everything down. The meat? Underseasoned and underwhelming. Not enough juice, not enough depth, and certainly not enough balance. The taco's ratios were all off -- a pile of meat, with just a sprinkle of onions and cilantro (if you could even call it that). And the lack of proper chili (like chile de árbol) made the whole experience flat. There's no kick, no brightness, no contrast -- just a dense, dry bite. Price point? Outrageous. Each taco rings in at $7 and if you want cheese (which many will), you're paying $8 per taco That's a steep ask for something this mediocre. You can find much better for far less -- and often with customizable options, which this place doesn't offer. Now, to be fair -- if you're just out with family, not someone who hunts down the best tacos in town, and you're looking for something quick and casual -- you might not mind these. They *look* the part, and if you haven't tasted truly great tacos yet, these could pass as solid. But once you've experienced the real deal, especially from Portland's standout taquerias, it's hard to go back. Unfortunately, this restaurant was quite a disappointment. While the nachos were tasty, the portion was surprisingly small and didn't feel worth the price. I ordered a margarita with a salted rim, but was surprised to find it rimmed with table salt rather than the coarse, flaked salt typically used. Had I known, I would've skipped the salt altogether. It was unappealing enough that I ended up wiping it off myself. The salsa lacked flavor and was quite watery, and the chips tasted stale, more like something from a prepackaged bag than freshly made. While the staff were friendly, their appearance was noticeably disheveled to the point that I wouldn't have immediately recognized them as servers. All in all, I'd give this place a 4 out of 10. After walking past the first time because the line looked so long, we went back to discover they seated everyone and were able to be seated when we walked in the second time ten minutes later. Our server was a sweet young gal who was really nice and checked in regularly. We ordered the guacamole and salsa with chips to start. The chips were just right - not salty and not greasy. The guacamole and salsa were also just right. But the best part of our meal, we both agreed, was the pork bulgogi taco. This review is coming from someone that lives in San Diego and has some of the best Mexican food so definitely is biased however I would say there are a lot of other Mexican places that are better than this. This place definitely gets very busy and you will need to come early on the weekends if you don't want to wait. However the food and drinks are very mediocre. The maracuya margarita was way too sweet and did not taste like a margarita at all. The only decent margarita was the holy margarita and that one was still did not have a very fresh taste. As for the food, the salsa was good but the chips were nothing special. The Al pastor tacos were pretty dry and needed some type of sauce. The emoladas were probably the only decent food as the mole was tasty but spicy. Overall, there is way better Mexican food restaurants and cocktails bars compared to this place. read more

I think I need to try this place again. Service was great and the restaurant is intimate. They had live music on a Wednesday. The drinks were good. I'm unsure about the food though. Both my friend and myself ordered two tacos and a dessert. And it seems you have a 50/50 chance of getting something good. We both had the same experience. One taco was good, the other not so much. One desert was good, the other not at all. And considering the price for the tacos and dessert, not sure if it's worth it. The churros were recommended by our server, so you expect them to be great. Sadly what we got were dry, burnt sticks with chocolate sauce that tasted a little weird. We both took one taste and couldn't eat anymore. The Flourless chocolate torte was very good.
