We slept so well on that bed and those uber-soft sheets!
    Sandra S.

My husband and I like to go away to a bed and breakfast every year for our anniversary for two nights. We tend to like small places because of the intimacy and romance factor. Holualoa Inn did NOT disappoint! Our stay there was easily one of our top two favorite anniversaries! The staff is awesome! We were treated like we were in our own home and had run of the place both nights. The room was dreamy, the rooftop gazebo had a breathtaking view, the pool was nice and just the right temperature, the downstairs game room had everything you could ask for, the decor was incredible and the service - flawless. They even have bathrooms with showers downstairs by the pool, and will keep your luggage there if you check out and just want to hang out until its time to go to the airport! Ok, so I have to mention breakfast. A-MA-ZING. It is cooked fresh for you when you come downstairs, and made to order. The views from the dining room are incredible. Everyone eats at one table, so we were able to meet the two other couples that were staying there (there are only four rooms, so one was vacant). Note: that was the only time we actually saw anyone else there. We stayed in the Gardenia Suite. Looks exactly like the pictures on the website, with fantastic views. Its their biggest suite (livingroom and bedroom, with adjoining bath) and included a balcony off the bedroom. The sheets are Comphy Sheets - sooooo soft! We ended up ordering a set from the Inn, and they were able to get them shipped from the company to our house on Oahu for free. How awesome is that!? We got the couple's massage in the gazebo one evening, which was awesome. I'd recommend you get it in your room, though, because even though the gazebo was nice, you just don't want to get up and walk anywhere when its over. The furniture they have all over the place is Bali-inspired. Its also all for sale, for a pretty penny. Most of the pieces are very unique. Everywhere you look, there's a place for you to sit and relax, or enjoy the view. We didn't want to leave. It was the first time we'd gone to the Big Island, and Holualoa Inn was a huge reason why the experience was so unforgettable. We will ~definitely~ be back!

I can't rave about this place enough. What a stunning property, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The breakfasts each morning far exceeded anything you could get elsewhere, and the coffee is unreal. Hats off to he chef, Donald! The entire Inn is immaculate, super comfortable, (those sheets!) and relaxing. We stayed here during our elopement and had reserved the Darryl Hill Cottage. The cottage itself is quite large, full of amenities, and the lanai has a wonderful view overlooking the grounds and out to the ocean. Not quite the same view you get from the main Inn (which is SPECTACULAR) but still one of the best that we found on the island. The only warning is you are up on the mountains with lots of wildlife, so the frogs and birds can get a little noisy. They supply ear plugs and if you close the windows and doors it drowns almost all the noise out. We actually started to find it comforting after a couple of nights, like a noise machine. We split our time on the island between this Inn and the Hilton Waikoloa Village, and I promise I would only ever go back to one of those locations. If you are considering one of the large extravagant resorts- reconsider. This is where you want to be.

Beautiful B&B nestled in the Kona hills. You won't be disappointed. Breakfast is AMAZING! Staff is attentive and helpful. Stayed in the Cottage but rooms down in the actual Inn are beautiful too. Can't wait to go back.

I immediately fell in love with Holualoa Inn from our first site visit and couldn't be happier that we chose them as our reception venue for our big day. The grounds are like none other I've seen on the island - lush, elegant, private and magical in a way that you can only truly understand having visited there. The staff was phenomenal to work with while planning from afar and they went above and beyond to ensure our wedding was a success. My husband and I got married in March 2020 just before COVID reached the islands, and in the week leading up to our big day there was a lot of uncertainty and stress about potential restrictions and lockdowns. The Holualoa Inn staff worked hard to ease any concerns and ensured that us and our guests felt completely safe. Holualoa Inn is easily my favorite place on the Big Island - so much so that my husband and I will be returning to spend our 1 year anniversary there! Thank you to the Holualoa Inn team for creating such a wonderful space, and helping us create our storybook wedding. Mahalo!

    Blissful stay!

Honu Kai provides a unique yet comfortable stay. This was my first time at a b&b so I had a lot of questions. Months prior to booking, I called and texted Amy with my questions, and she always got back to me quickly. Location was great because target is only 10 min away if you need to stock up on the essentials. Lots of amazing restaurants are within 15 minutes as well. The property is so beautiful and well maintained. It truly felt like a second home. It has a peaceful and zen feeling that is extra magical at night due to the coquis. Our bed was so comfortable and our room was cleaned everyday. The fresh breakfast everyday with coffee and juice was excellent as well. The fruit was always fresh and sweet! I'm someone who appreciates quiet mornings alone so I was unsure about having breakfast with other people, but I'm so glad we did it. It's a really amazing and unique experience to sit and eat with people from all over the world! I truly miss sitting on the porch watching the birds and chickens on the lawn. What really made our experience special was Amy. She is so friendly, personable, and just a genuinely kind soul! Absolutely loved her! Our time here wouldn't have been the same without her. She truly goes above and beyond and really cares. 100000% recommend Honu Kai. We will definitely be back!

Unfortunately, with less than a month to go and only 4 rooms total was not able to get extra nights here. The one night we did have here was exactly like how I imagine old Hawai`i would look like. Just a short drive to downtown Kona for food and even Costco but far enough that you feel like you can disconnect. With so much shared public area and again only 4 rooms, nothing ever felt crowded. You had access to an outdoor dining area, gardens, sundeck, grill, plates, utensils, your own shelf in the fridge and even snorkel and beach gear. The only issue I had was when I used the hot tub, my eyes started stinging so not sure if it was overly chlorinated so only lasted less than 5 minutes as I kept tearing up. The rooms were comfortable, very thought out and has such nice little touches that make you feel at home. Only thing to note is since they are in such a tropical setting, they do not want you eating in your room to avoid ant infestations, etc.. Again, no big deal as they have a spacious dining area right downstairs that we had all to ourselves when we wanted to eat or snack. Innkeeper Amy was friendly, welcoming, and made sure we were taken care of. The breakfast in the morning was better than what you can get at a restaurant and the ambiance just cannot be beat. The sound of the rain while we ate our takeout dinner was so soothing and relaxing and the sound of the birds on a sunny morning paired well with that breakfast. We honestly didn't want to leave that we lingered after check out enjoying our lunch at their public area. I honestly could not ask for anything more.

I was okay not being able to completely close all the windows, listening to all the outside noises of wildlife, ocean waves, and other annoying human guests. No air conditioning, but I could tolerate the Hawaii's warm humid weather. A .3 mile walk in flip flips to the incredible Kahaluu beach with chair, snorkeling gear, towel, and refreshments was no biggie. Now that I'm older...I need to close all the windows and doors to keep out the noises out...and I don't everyone else hearing my noises, especially the romantic kind. The Orchid Room's balcony only had a screen door, no real door for privacy, so weird! Even if I could close the door, it would get really hot and humid since there is no AC. Nearby Kahaluu beach is amazing and a short walk away...but in wet flip flops and carrying gear it seems so much longer in 40s than in my 30s. The 2 story Ocean View room I had back in 2016 was more tolerable and private...the Orchid Room not so much. At under $200/night its actually still one of the more affordable places to stay in Kona. I might stay here again if its the Ocean View room, otherwise I'm looking for a hotel with air conditioning and doors I can fully close...maybe I'm just getting older, whinier, and crankier.

PROPERTY: Located about 30 minutes south of the airport, the resort is on beautiful Keauhou Bay. The common spaces around the property were well cared for and I liked the centralized flow to the pool, restaurant, gym, lounge, market, and lobby. In Nov 2025, there was weekday construction noise to renovate the spa and to build a Duke's Restaurant, but this was not a problem for us since we were gone during the day anyway. I started every morning at the gym that had new equipment and a great view of the ocean. ROOMS: The room we were placed in was technically oceanfront, but was not what the check-in clerk called the "cruise ship porthole view" where you see only the ocean out your window. We were on the ground floor with several yards of walking path in front of it. We did love that the ground floor rooms had super high ceilings, so at least if you're on the ground, the room felt bigger, and we had a direct view of the manta ray tours at night. The rooms have been refreshed with new carpet, furniture, and updated bathrooms. Our king room had a corner sofa and coffee table that was a perfect hangout zone for us. A few days later, I approached the front desk to ask if maybe a better view room were available for the back half of our stay. Tiana was super friendly and said she had a room for us that we could look at in the afternoon. Short story, the afternoon revisit did not go well, both with front desk miscommunications and the room itself, so we decided to stay put. Tiana called us the next morning to ask what had happened since she wasn't there in the afternoon and saw we had not moved rooms. When I explained why we decided to stay put, she had Sally from management get in touch with us. Sally could not have been more kind and immediately moved us into an amazing top floor room, left us a gift basket with coffee and a manta ray plush, and removed our parking charges. This is the sort of over-the-top response that used to be more common, but ever since the pandemic, I've rarely seen it. We were so appreciative that I was even embarrassed that they did so much for us - there wasn't a major problem, but they just didn't like that we hadn't had an outstanding experience at the Outrigger Kona, and they made sure we had one. VOYAGER 47 LOUNGE: Icing on the cake was the Voyager 47 Lounge. Lounge access was included with our travel package and we assumed it would be like other lounges we've been to with snacks, beverages, sometimes light bites. Thought…read moreit was a bit ridiculous that we were checking in at like 6pm and they didn't have a room ready for us, but eventually they found something. Inside the room was tired and dated. The paint was peeling on the walls. The shower toiletries were like 5ft high, which was absolutely riddiculous. About the only 'nice' thing about this place is that it's near the boats that go out for the manta ray tours.
