Wonderful place. Easy drive to the airport and tourist attractions. The hosts Hans and Marsha are very interesting people with great stories and they put out a very nice breakfast. The rooms were clean, quiet and well appointed. A common kitchen and sitting room is provided as well as a nice back porch with a spectacular view. This is a working organic coffee farm, so there is lots to see right on the property. Hans is an interesting fellow, very plain spoken and direct, but quite knowledgeable on many subjects. If you get a chance to talk with him you should take it.

I stayed here with my husband for ten nights. I am happy we discovered Mango Sunset. The location is clean and very intimate. The innkeepers were attentive and provided a delicious breakfast every morning. The conversations with the innkeepers and the other guests (from all over the globe) were truly memorable. I look forward to a future visit at this wonderful bed and breakfast.

Our hosts made a wonderful homemade breakfast each day, which we ate in the gazebo overlooking the ocean.

What a treat! We left about 3/4 weeks ago and miss Honu Kai so much already!!!!…read more If you are looking to really experience the island like a local instead of just staying at a hotel, I highly recommend honu Kai, especially if you love nature. Honu Kai provides a unique yet comfortable stay. This was my first time at a b&b so I had a lot of questions. Months prior to booking, I called and texted Amy with my questions, and she always got back to me quickly. Location was great because target is only 10 min away if you need to stock up on the essentials. Lots of amazing restaurants are within 15 minutes as well. The property is so beautiful and well maintained. It truly felt like a second home. It has a peaceful and zen feeling that is extra magical at night due to the coquis. Our bed was so comfortable and our room was cleaned everyday. The fresh breakfast everyday with coffee and juice was excellent as well. The fruit was always fresh and sweet! I'm someone who appreciates quiet mornings alone so I was unsure about having breakfast with other people, but I'm so glad we did it. It's a really amazing and unique experience to sit and eat with people from all over the world! I truly miss sitting on the porch watching the birds and chickens on the lawn. What really made our experience special was Amy. She is so friendly, personable, and just a genuinely kind soul! Absolutely loved her! Our time here wouldn't have been the same without her. She truly goes above and beyond and really cares. 100000% recommend Honu Kai. We will definitely be back!

I originally had a night reserved here before flying out from Kona to Maui but after the Lahaina…read morefire, had to pivot, cancel the Maui portion and tried to extend our Kona stay. Unfortunately, with less than a month to go and only 4 rooms total was not able to get extra nights here. The one night we did have here was exactly like how I imagine old Hawai`i would look like. Just a short drive to downtown Kona for food and even Costco but far enough that you feel like you can disconnect. With so much shared public area and again only 4 rooms, nothing ever felt crowded. You had access to an outdoor dining area, gardens, sundeck, grill, plates, utensils, your own shelf in the fridge and even snorkel and beach gear. The only issue I had was when I used the hot tub, my eyes started stinging so not sure if it was overly chlorinated so only lasted less than 5 minutes as I kept tearing up. The rooms were comfortable, very thought out and has such nice little touches that make you feel at home. Only thing to note is since they are in such a tropical setting, they do not want you eating in your room to avoid ant infestations, etc.. Again, no big deal as they have a spacious dining area right downstairs that we had all to ourselves when we wanted to eat or snack. Innkeeper Amy was friendly, welcoming, and made sure we were taken care of. The breakfast in the morning was better than what you can get at a restaurant and the ambiance just cannot be beat. The sound of the rain while we ate our takeout dinner was so soothing and relaxing and the sound of the birds on a sunny morning paired well with that breakfast. We honestly didn't want to leave that we lingered after check out enjoying our lunch at their public area. I honestly could not ask for anything more.

This place was absolutely dreamy and the staff was so kind. We stayed in the cottage and really loved the privacy it offered. We had our own spacious lanai to watch the sunrise each morning. Breakfast was delicious and fresh. They made special accommodations for us vegetarians which I greatly appreciated. Coffee was so good and the view from the dining table was breathtaking. As far as location, you're definitely a little off the beaten path which is what we wanted. There are some small shops and restaurants to walk to, but for the most part you'll probably be hopping in your car to head to the beach and busier parts of the island. Hawaii is meant to be explored, no matter what inn or hotel you decide to make your home base. But Holualoa Inn is truly magical and I'll never forget my time there.

Of course, we didn't arrive until 10pm, so my gps got us reasonably close. I knew we were in for something different when Shai said, you ought to pull up into the driveway a bit more so an avocado doesn't fall through your car window. Okey dokey, I appreciate the warning. For arriving so late, we had a warm welcoming, a beautifully appointed large room on the bottom floor, and a great night's sleep. Breakfast was around 8ish and deliclious. Kona coffee is unlike any other I've tasted and an interesting departure. The quiche Shai made was filling and sustained me for a trip of snorkeling to Keakalulea Bay! I'd only wished we'd tried out the hot tub just steps away from our room! The hospitality was truly amazing here.

Our room had plenty of space and was sparkling clean, very comfortable. The grounds are well maintained, and overall the vibe is relaxing. The location is great - up in the hills so it's cooler and peaceful but still located within a 13 min drive of the Kona airport and the main parts of town. The property is gated, and there's a nice large deck that you can sit on to enjoy during breakfast or any other time you want to hang out. At night, the music of the frogs will keep you company- if it bothers you, you can shut the windows and/or wear earplugs. It didn't bother me personally, I slept well with frogs going all night and the windows open. I highly recommend this B&B. Thank you, Daniel and Robert, for a wonderful stay!

We were able to sleep through it even with the windows open for fresh air, but if you're super sensitive or a light sleeper I would recommend having earplugs and maybe playing some white noise

But that's the Island for you! GPS is hit or miss Green Lions is a farm & we saw hairless sheep, a goat, friendly puppies & the resident cat. There were also mango trees, guava, avocado & I'm sure a ton of other stuff I'm missing - it's very tranquil The house is lovely, w/ a ginormous room & the biggest bed I think I've ever seen - it was so awesome! In fact, I may be safe in saying this room was bigger than my whole apartment! Our room boasted it's own sauna & huge walk-in shower; free wifi; fridge, huge tv w/ satellite channels; & a personalized breakfast whenever we cared to wake for the day Pam rents just the 1 room of her home & it was perfect getaway - nice & quiet w/ no worries about noisy neighbors......that is, unless you count the feral chickens who squawk anywhere from 1:30am, going forward. Some mornings, they let us sleep in until 3am.... I say this in jest as Pam had absolutely no control over this - feral chickens have completely taken over the Island. They're absolutely everywhere. No lie. Everywhere we drove - Costco, Safeway, beaches, churches, random sides of the road.....everywhere! So unless you're staying at a huge resort where they have guards to chase away the chickens or you're room is high enough to drown out all noise, you'll be dealing w/ this. Get used to it But back to the awesome house, there is a full size pool w/ pool house & fridge & all the accessories; there's also a soaking tub on the deck of the main house. When Pam heard we were planning a beach day, she offered to let us use her boogie boards & she was always one to offer a local's place to check out. The house is filled w/ all kinds of guidebooks, brochures & information about the Big Island & she has created a wonderful place to lounge, rest, or research your next great island adventure for the day On our final morning there, we were treated to some strawberry guava, just picked from her garden - they were scrumptious! If you're looking for somewhere that offers an Island experience, away from all the corporate hubbub, check out Green Lions B&B
