Be prepared; I have a lot to say about this rental company after renting from them for 2 years.
Maintenance:
The maintenance manager is as sweet as he can be, he's the owners nephew. He doesn't really have any other qualifications to work in maintenance other than the fact that he's a relative. Our fridge was leaking so we submitted a work order. He came to look and said that the fridge seemed fine. Continued to leak, so we decided to stick a bowl in the area of leakage for proof. Overnight the bowl filled completely up, we walked it up to the office to show them "hey something needs to be fixed", as we didn't want to be charged for any of the damage. An experienced repairman came in and said we needed our fridge replaced, so after three visits we got the fridge taken care of. Next, our water heater broke. We heard some water dripping behind the door that the unit was kept, and the floor carpet in front of it was completely soaked and apparently the ceiling in the apartment below was ruined. The nephew, bless his soul, told us it was because we were running our AC too much, then he said it was because we went from such a high temp to such a low temp (74 to 68) and our AC froze. My fiancé and I decided to make a couple of phone calls, because her grandfather owns his own heating and air business and my dad is currently in school for it. They both laughed and threatened to call the rental company. We got a professional to come in yet again, and come to find out it was the water heater. It crapped out because it was 12 years old, keep in mind that the average water heater lasts 8 to 10 years. They drug it out and water was pouring out, and they still tried to say it was our fault in an effort to charge us for the damage. The last work order we submitted was due to mold that was black in color, growing on the ceiling above the shower. First of all it took two weeks for the nephew to come out to look at this. That's fine we will wait. In the meantime, a friend of ours was having the same issue so he went to the office and spoke to Kelly Holton, letting her know that there was black mold. With a sarcastic tone she first addressed that "there's no such thing as black mold"... That wasn't the point. The point was that there was mold in the apartment. The nephew made it to our apartment and said that the mold was "normal bathroom mold". I'm sorry but what mold is considered NORMAL? I digress and shift my focus...
Office Staff/Kelly Holton:
Let me start with the good: I love the office staff they were all so sweet and helpful, except for Kelly Holton. I've never had a good encounter with her, though I've never made it known until now. Not many people are fond of her, except for my fiancé, and now she even doesn't like her. There have been several instances, when my fiancé was on good terms with her, that Kelly would talk negatively about other college tenants. We may be college students/recent graduates ourselves, but we can still clearly identify when someone is being unprofessional, and when you're essentially talking shit about other tenants, it's unprofessional and we've taken note. There was a point in time when one of the neighbors in our apartment complex got a dog, and we asked Kelly if they had changed their pet policy. No was the answer, the dog was an emotional support animal, but she made it a point to say that maintenance would be in and out of their apartment for made up reasons so that they could keep an eye on the dog and apartment. Lying and deception are not things I want in a rental company. I was shocked when I heard it. In February of this year, my fiancé and I decided to sign our lease over in May instead of July when the lease typically ends because we're both moving back to our hometown. Kelly said that they would advertise our apartment and they would keep track of finding a subleaser, not to worry about it. We were surprised because we were prepared to look for subleasers, but we took her word and said okay. It's now April. Two weeks ago my fiancé called Kelly to ask if they had found subleasers. She said no, but they had advertised our apartment on Craigslist and were just waiting for a response. I decided to look on Craigslist to see what the post looked like, low and behold, THERE WAS NO POST. I looked through each section of Boone Housing and organized the posts from cheapest to most expensive and looked for our rent amount and nothing was there. She lied to us and deceived us, making us think that they were actually looking for subleasers for us. So here we are 3 weeks later and everyone who needs a summer sublease has found one. If we don't find subleasers, Kelly Holton has fucked us over about $2,000 in rent. But that's not all, I found a subleaser that was interested in renting for the summer and signing a new lease, Kelly said yes send her here, so she came all the way here to find out she couldn't sign a year long lease because Kelly didn't tell her over the phone.
